    I’m so jealous!! I’m in school starting my externship this Monday to be a CVA and graduating in April, I wasn’t able to land a job in the field because I wasn’t certified yet! But now that I’ll be certified I’ll be able to. This video helped ease my nerves bc if you can do it with little to no experience and do well then I’m sure I’ll do great. I appreciated this (:

      @@briswanderlust It's going really well, thanks! I was nervous about going into it with no prior veterinary experience or background but I'm learning so much on the job and feel more confident each day. How's it going for you? 💕

    So I’m a month into my training. I am also finishing up my first semester of my veterinary technician program through Penn Foster College and I’m so happy to have found a vet hospital that is willing to train me on the job and everyone I work with including the doctor is so so amazing. Being able to work in person while going to school is setting me up for success. I am a month in and I’m starting to gain my confidence but I still sometimes ask for guidance or to have things double checked and I asked my doctor yesterday about how long after graduation would you say that somebody is fully competent in their role and he said about a year and in between time take every opportunity to learn and ask questions but don’t be afraid to ever ever ask questions because it’s always better to ask.

    • @briswanderlust
      @briswanderlust  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Absolutely! I’ve been on the job about a little over 4 months and I’m comfortable with a lot but of course have so much to learn still!! It’s so great that you are doing vet tech online program because that will help you so much! I hope to enroll someday soon. It also helps having amazing co-workers!! Good luck to you and your journey with this career!

    I applied to a vet administrate college program and the only requirements for it was a highschool diploma, but I’m worried that it requires certain courses in highschool like bio, physics, etc. Did yours require specific classes?

    I liked your video, but if you don’t mind my asking about dress protocol= tying long hair back. Doesn’t long hair get in the way and cause problems restraining the animals and with other tasks? Was curious what your vet’s rules were for this. Thanks.

    • @briswanderlust
      @briswanderlust  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! So there aren’t any requirements really regarding that. I know some VA’s that have long hair and wear it down, however they do end up putting it up sometimes because it does get in the way. Personally I usually always have it up because it’s easier.

    Does the vet assistant take the pets vitals or is that the doctor?

    • @briswanderlust
      @briswanderlust  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends to be honest. Typically, we'll get the samples such as blood, fecal, urine for any testing that needs to be done and while we're doing that we'll also take the temperature. Usually, the doctors do the heart rate and respiration's.

      Yes I was! The only other animal care/handling experience I have was volunteering at my local shelter.

    • @audreytortorice6904
      @audreytortorice6904 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brianna Marie awesome! Thank you sm for replying :) I'm thinking of applying to my local banfield animal hospital! May I ask what you are able to do as a va?

    • @briswanderlust
      @briswanderlust  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Audrey Tortorice definitely! As a VA, we basically act as a nurse to the pets. We draw blood, take samples, assist in restraining so the doctor can conduct their exams, input notes, give and make up medications and also talk to the owners to get a history about the animal, also to go over any treatment plans. I would apply if it’s something you want to do! Don’t give up if it doesn’t happen right away! I applied to multiple places over the course of a couple months before I got something.
