Reminds me of my childhood. My grandparents lived in a park model one-bedroom mobile home in a trailer park in Dallas, Texas in the 1960's with a Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge on one side and a drive-in theater on the other. What memories!
I started my life in a similar trailer home 61 years ago. We lived in a park in Havelock, NC, with mostly Marine families as neighbors. My dad was stationed at Cherry Point for a while. As I get older, I find myself longing to return to a similar trailer home. I saw a nice park in Ocean City, MD, recently that had mostly 1960's trailer homes in it. It took me back to my childhood seeing those styles and pastel colors again.
I lived in a 12 by 60 mobile home when I was 8 around 1965. It housed the 6 of us. My mother and stepfather, me and my 3 sisters. Our bedrooms were tiny, we slept in bunk beds. We lived in Florida, then we moved to South Carolina and we moved it with us and then to Rhode Island. I remember it was a Great Lakes. I really love the vintage ones the best. Our mobile home came furnished. I liked living in a mobile home. Years later when I was 16 we lived in a 24 by 64 mobile home. I think the first one was more cosy.
I grew up in a two bedroom turquoise trailer. Everything was bright turquoise. Furniture, appliances, tub, sinks, toilet…there was a turquoise washing machine in the bathroom. It was finished out in a light colored wood and beige linoleum floors. The doors to the bedrooms and bathroom as well as the closet doors, were sliding doors that would always come off the track! My dad would get furious if we got them off! We moved from that house into another one that was all emerald green and yellow! Shag carpet no less! We were stylin’! 😂
Thanks for the story. Really neat. The trailer industry really embraced the colors. Check out my video of 1959 Marlette, with pink kitchen and turquoise bathroom
We had a 1962 trailer. Front kitchen was yellow....sink, stove and fridge...we even got a yellow phone to go with it. White louvered sliding doors separated kitchen/living room. Bathroom had aqua tub, sink, & toilet. I loved it all.
That’s so cool to see it’s a time capsule! My apartment I currently live in is from the 70’s and my bathroom counter has the exact the same starburst wall paper design!!! Some stuff like that I just wouldn’t dare touch it’s to precious. I like to imagine that I’m in the 70’s living life with my family the exact same way the family did before us! I have pictures of the building before and now it’s exactly the same!!
My 1957 Zimmer wasn't very well maintained...and still VERY solid, I once read somewhere that Zimmers were the most expensive and also the best made trailers back then, mine was originally the same aqua color too, I hope to repaint it back to this again, still fixing afew other things in it first on a budget of nearly zero...
There's an RV Museum in Elkhart Indiana. Very cool, some campers are set to look like it's an actual campsite. Must see if you're in the area. Right off 80/90 toll road.
I actually really loved this video, this trailer home is every bit as nice as the one that I share with my uncle. this one has pretty much the same layout also. Thank you for sharing.❤
It is so charming. You just want to go in sit down and take in the more tranquil time this unit was built and shut out the hateful times we are in now. Like a blast from the past therapy, i remember them well.
@@georgemiller6765 Thank you George, for your reply. I once live in a small 1950's 8 by 24 foot. I did updates but kept the style. I want a little bit bigger one. I have a nice house but would rather live in a vintage trailer than a mansion.
Im looking into getting a 59 Fleetwood but I have only 1 outside picture to go off of until I can view the interior. This honestly helped so much to get a glimpse of what the inside would look like. Not identical.. But at least an idea. THANK YOU! I loved the tour and the ideas you gave me for my place! Amazing!
That is just incredible how it’s all original and no one has tried to update it! Absolutely gorgeous! I love all of it, but that pink kitchen is the BEST! You can probably rate my enthusiasm by all of the exclamation marks at the end of each sentence 🤣🤣 but it really is amazing how well cared for this home is. What a priceless gem! Thank you for sharing this beauty with us. ❤️
Yes, it is mine. Please take a look at my other video's of the 1959 Marlette and 1951 Spartanette, both of which are even more original. The Marlette has all the factory supplied furniture, and the only thing that has ever been changed in 62 years is the bathroom faucet, LR curtains, lightbulbs and mattress. Both of those trailer homes still even had the original mattresses, which I did change.
I liked this a lot more than I expected. Other than the pairing of the yellow sink with the red countertop, the overall design and decor worked well together.
I love this video! I love the way this model home has been preserved to keep its original look. I was born in 1969 so I love this era of decor and the memories it brings back! Looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Thanks! It was an expensive manufacturer and taken care of, but also benefited from some of the long-time owners not being able to afford changes or being resistant to change.
Neighborhood that this home sits in was platted in 1957 and has a few late '50's and plenty of early '60's homes. Unfortunately most are upgraded beyond recognition. Plenty of MH parks in the areas. In this one, you own your own lot.
I have a soft spot for retro things, and this is just beautiful! It looks so nice inside and out, who ever said trailers were trashy has never properly cared for one. 😂 😂
Thank you for the kind comments. In this time period, these trailers, which are held in derision by many, actually were extreme on their style, and well-engineered for space optimization. Sad how quick people will resort to stereotypes. Please check out my other videos for more retro stuff.
Thanks for the kind comment. It is in a neighborhood that once had 100+ of the same vintage. Almost all are remodeled so much that you cannot tell they are this vintage.
THIS WAS AMAZING!!!!! I used to visit my grandmother in an old trailer similar to this -- the name brand began with an E -- I can't place it now in my memory. Birch everything and "modern" (then) mid-century furnishings. Amazing to see this!
That starburst clock, everyone had one in the 60’s-70’s I almost expected to see giant wooden spoons and forks in the kitchen, remember those? My grandma lived in one in southern Oh, BFE. You could hear a bee fart, I used to complain about how boring it was, I’d give anything for some of those boring days again.

@@vintagemobilehome2685do you know exactly what the color is called? I have a '57 Zimmer that was originally that same color and I'd love to repaint it, interesting seeing what one a few years newer looks like, I see the wooden walls look about the same, mine also has a fireplace, but whatever was in it was ripped out ages ago (some sort of propane heater) mines a two bedroom and originally the back bedroom had built in bunk beds and a divider in the middle of the room, I sure wish i could've seen what it originally looked like. I have never seen a mobil home from that era with a factory built tilt out?? Amazing!
Thanks, that is why I included the advertisement in the video. This trailer was high end!
Wow I always enjoyed wooden walls in Mobil homes
Love it too. the reality is that was practical. Good strength to weight ratio compared to drywall. And drywall was more prone to absorb moisture.
