Imagine singing that good and getting that killer guitar tone and timing perfect! It is so simple fundamentally but he adds so much style and finesse its impossible to replicate.
Wouldn't it be absolutely awesome to hear this song with Cornell and Stapleton. A straight acoustic album with them both would have been epic.

Always afraid to sound to nasally - but then you listen to someone like Joe Walsh - and how unique is his voice? One of the great rock “character” voices.
Stapleton lesson very helpful. His agility is insane. So fast with his vocal lines. Love your tip to just do a natural riff of the scale . Not exact notes.

I've really built up my mix recently and I'd been struggling to dial in twang with the new sense of space in the vocal tract that I've been singing with.
This (relatively) simple sentence really helped things click! Such a clear way to sum up how twang, an open vowel and use of the soft palette can all co-exist.
I even replayed it to see if there was a cheeky smile after you said it because I bet you knew you'd dropped a doozy!

Chris - Stapleton and Brandi Carlisle performed Hunger Strike together at the Chris Cornell tribute concert. You can find it in TH-cam. If you ever “teach” a female voice Brandi would be GREAT choice. She has a huge powerful voice. Check out her song The Joke.

I have been trying to sing this song and I have parts I do that I like and other things that are making me nuts....like I can sing warm really well when I do it with him but try and do on my own? Anyway, I was surprised when I was just imitating you in this video how much more range I seemed to get and that was so cool! I really love that you're tackling some different styles... so we can learn from them different tricks we can incorporate into our own singing. How about people like Roy Orbison who used wide range, from soaring with power, sustained long notes and of course those high notes. Beatles era Paul McCartney with his ability to switch from distorted rock n roll (Long Tall Sally, Oh Darling, Helter Skelter) to super smooth melodic (Blackbird, Eleanor Rigby). Chris Isaak is also interesting with his combination of Elvis like smooth baritone to high, pure sounding head voice (Wicked Game).

I would like you to consider PLEASE doing a video on maybe the most confusing rock singer for another singer to get a grasp of... and that is Ian Astbury of The Cult... some examples are the chorus of " American Gothic", "Fire woman", and " she sells sanctuary", and " White"... his approach has always baffled me, as he sounds like a baritone, but is nailing these high tenor parts

Hi Chris, I Found your channel today, I am a multi-instrumentalist who has a problem with vocals. Just watching your video on Chris Stapleton has been a big help. When you are talking vocal compression, I hear it as a vocal limiting. I know your not taking plug-ins just natural vocal comp or limiting, but am I hearing it as a limiter not compression, am I hearing it wrong? Thank you for your time making these videos. I will share with every musician I know.
Welcome to the channel! I think vocal limiting is also a good way to look at it... maybe even a better descriptive word for the more extreme forms of "compression"!

Got a sam Elliot voice, Chris one of the voices I can do.
So I’ve found my mix... sort of. There’s three strange issues I have with it that make me wonder if it’s really mix. For one thing, it sort of hurts to do, feeling like I’m doing some kind of yell, although it is connected and higher than chest. By extension, it is also incredibly distorted - you might think I was about to sing some Linkin Park, which doesn’t really work for the style I eventually want to achieve. Lastly, while there is power behind it, there is still a break of sorts. Rather than a crazy cracking noise, my voice goes out of tune when going into mix. For example, if I’m singing a chest-dominant G4, then pop up to a B4, I’ll end up at an A4 and have to “move” my voice up to the B4. My pitch intonation is almost never off, so the sound is as strange as the sensation. Any tips to fix these things?

no. It's from harnessing correct lower abdominal support and combining it with proper positioning in the pharynx.

huh?? I didn't mean it come across as putting anyone down. I was more reacting to comments I've gotten from people who complain about me stopping the video and singing along with the singers in this format that I do. I've had people say some pretty nasty stuff. Some people don't seem to care for me stopping and explaining and experimenting with my own voice and would rather I just offer a limited amount of commentary and let the video play. I don't want to do that and there are lots of people that already do that so I'm just suggesting that if they want to see someone do that, watch a different video :)

In your opinion, does the unique voice sound of a particular person can be developed or does it come naturally? is there any professional singer who overtime change their way or style (includes sound) of singing because he or she thought that will be the best for him/her, and eventually works for them? hope you got my question. thanks
Yes, you can certainly develop your voice!! Of course each of us has a unique sound & quality to our voice, but we can also develop and train and hone it.

The crazy thing is, Stapleton probably doesn't even think about or realize he's doing any of this, he just sings that way. Unless he took vocal lessons at some point. The world may never know.
