@@vanessa1052 the term illicit affair refers to an affair between married couple, so it didn't fit the narrative of "teenage love triangle" Taylor had told.
Daniel Gonzalez Yes, But you know what I feel about this album? I feel like she created this characters as a way to tell her stories or things that she went through without having people looking at her private life or making her work unworthy as they did before. It’s a clever way to put duble meaning on every lyric, meaning that there’s the story being tell about those characters and also being applicable for Taylor past experiences.
Gusti Agung Illicit is about something not legal. Affair is a love relationship between two people being extra official or not. So it does not necessary needs to be a marriage. It could be just a dating-relationship. Or it could be just a love fling, but then the illicit part comes in telling is behind someone's back. What i mean is in "Sad Beautiful tragic" from the Red album, taylor uses "affair" as just a way to say it is a relationship or a something between too people in a romantic way. ('Cause we had a beautiful magic love there, what a sad beautiful tragic love affair). And that’s why she emphasizes that is a cheating situation with the lyrics and the word “illicit” in it.
The way hoax sounds like a haunting music box melody keeps playing in my head; it just really sticks with you. Overall, it is just a gorgeous album. After a week of listening to it, I am amazed at how the tracks just continue to reveal more details I didn’t catch the first time. So well done.
This is like taylor swift get lost in her imaginations creating character, reflect in her self .... but some song I can clearly see her life. Even when it wrapped with fantasy. She’s still telling her truth.
I find it very interesting too that she put her stories weaved in with all the others, instead of separating them. Cuz I feel that it's meant to show that 1. she's also folk, ie she's a person not a persona, not an object which tends to happen to famous people, she's also not "special" she's just like the other girls and boys she sings about, with backstory, and family, and heartbreak, and happiness, and who is also affected by what happens in the world around her. And 2. that her stories as she said become "fables" and "myths" and the line between fiction and reality in her life is completely blurred to the world and all of those little lies get passed down in our culture about her too, and she becomes almost this mythical character and we have no way to know what is real anymore, unless we listen to what she, herself, is saying, instead of all these "fables" the media tells about her. So in a way, her image has been constructed like a character in a story, just like these characters she created herself. And in a way, media, and people in general, write and talk about her as though they are writing a character of their own, who is not a living person, and who they can make do or believe anything they want (like when white supremacists claimed her as "theirs" etc). Which ties back to Blank Space, which I feel like is one of the roots of this album.
In this album Taylor really focuses on her strengths; her story telling. And also thank you so much, Nina. I don't think I've ever seen someone who actually analyses the lyrics and listens to the music to come to a conclusion about how Taylor must be feeling. It makes the song listening experience much much better. Simple things I may not have noticed before, now my ears strain to hear them. Thank you, Nina! ❤

Your reaction to Peace was so moving to watch. I reacted the same way. When Taylor’s lyrics hit so specifically, it really is unlike any other experience with another pop artists. Peace and Epiphany are my favorites. Great video once again!
i feel like this is an album that i can relate to even at the different phases of my life because there’s a song for almost every feeling whether it’s the grief of losing someone (exile, my tears ricochet), being at your lowest point (this is me trying) or finding someone you feel is destined for you (invisible string) and so much more. this may be my favorite album of taylor’s.

My favs (2nd part) This is me trying: it makes me feel like i'm somewhere else when she sings "at least i'm trying". Invisible strings: i like the concept of it and the way she sings about the signs that led them where they are now. Peace: makes me think about delicate, how the way you live affect your partner's life as well and you want them to stay, but you understand if they want to leave. Hoax: if you give yourself to someone, as a all, the person you love the most is the same one that can make you feel broken, but you accept that anyway.
"betty" sounds so similar to "you belong with me" ,both have so similar chorus. ANNNNDDDD its about a love triangle. Also there's a lyric that says something like " come get in the car" (betty) and in taylor's mv of you belong with me ,when the girl shows up in the car , i meannnnnn........she's a GENIUS. { EDIT: i don't have a clue if people have already figured it out or not ,but if i seem too exicited it's only because i figured it out rn}
omg I love that theory!! Also haha it would make it so Taylor plays all 3 character in some sense, since she plays both girls in YBWM vid & then she is allegedly James from Betty. SO Taylor cheats on Taylor with Taylor!😂
I really hope Taylor sees your video and asks you to collaborate with her somehow because you're super talented, you actually KNOW what you're saying and you understand the kind of artist Taylor is! :)
This is the album I've been waiting from Taylor. My favorites are the 1, exile, my tears ricochet, August, illicit affairs, invisible string, and peace!
I can’t choose my favorite from this album but this is me trying and illicit affairs is like my top 2. The rest of the album is my number 3 😅 I connect to this is me trying the most. I feel like besides the bridge, it feels like talking about depression. At least that’s how I interpreted it. I have anxiety and depression and that song is like you said earlier the words I wanted to say but couldn’t and Taylor managed to put them into a song so beautifully. And for some reason illicit affairs just hurts. Never been in one, don’t know what that feels like but I feel the pain especially on the bridge.. Taylor has always been able to put me in certain emotions I’ve never experienced myself before. More so in this album. Taylor has always been great but this album is just extraordinary. From start to finish is a masterpiece imo.
Epiphany really gets me cuz I LOVE that sound and it’s just so sad. Illicit Affairs is uses so many beautiful sounding words so I can’t stop listening to it (mercurial high?? Never heard someone sing that) and Seven hits me personally cuz I really do have a lot of feelings around how childhood can be the best part of your life because it’s the only time you’re really allowed to feel and pretend and nobody tells you otherwise (or at least shouldn’t because the whole world is telling you you’re right in your feelings of magic and hopefulness) and then I like the sound of Mirrorball and Cardigan a lot
UGHHHHH thank you for all your wonderful feedback and thoughts!!! when you said "this is me trying" sounded like an orchestra warm up, it made me think of how it was someone warming up to go make amends, realizing they are in for quite a journey haha. that song makes me have ALL the feels
I think the only songs that are about Taylor's personal life are my tears ricochet, invisible string and maybe peace (The last great American dynasty kinda is at the end of the song tho lol) Edit: Also seven, mirrorball and mad woman (I forgot about those lmao) My personal fave is betty:)
América Morales Oh I would absolutely add mad woman to that list. Wanting me dead really brought you two together... for me that screams Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun
It's funny bc in illicit affairs Taylor goes up on both "down" and "high" so she does the opposite thing (for down) but then also follows the word (high) later on. And she also does have a song, Dress, where she stops on the word "stops" (but only in the last chorus so it's not overdone)
The pattern “but there’s robbers to the east, clowns to the west” reminds me of B*Witched from back in the day “I say hey boy sitting in your tree, mummy always wants you to come for tea”
I couldn’t possibly choose a favorite I absolutely love the whole entire album it’s such a beautiful masterpiece 💕❤️❤️ it made me feel so much she did this magical thing that she is able to do so well and that’s make me feel like she wrote it just for me I love Taylor so much with all my heart ♥️
No other artist can shuffle from country to Pop to alternative than Taylor is doing!!!!she i right why he just sing 1 genre of music if you can play all of it!!!nobody can't deny her songwriting genius!!proud to be a swiftie!!!!
My favourites are invisible string, mad women and Betty. Also, I love your reactions so much!! It would be so cool if you reacted to Taylors 2019 AMA' performance, her vocals are really good in it and the performance.
I'm just so glad Taylor made this album, there are so many songs with different sounds and style but they feel like parts of one thing. Just a few days ago I'm replaying cardigan, exile and my tears richocet in my mind a lot, the next day it's the one, mirrorball and last great american dynasty. Now I feel like listening to hoax and mad woman. I don't know how to express it, it's just magical, I thought I'll not like some of the songs but after listening to it again they repeatedly play when I'm not realizing it.
fab! love these as always :). i completely agree about the orchestra warm up too in this is me trying and i’m so glad you pointed that out. also i don’t know quite why but especially with headphones illicit affairs, her voice sounds so close to you like she’s literally singing in your ear. no i have no idea why that matters to me or what it means but i love it
I really felt what you said at the end. This album totally changes based on where you are, it's just amazing. In the car full volume, and you yell the lyrics. In the park with your headphones. In the bath as a calming track. Anyway, I always adore your reviews, as you make me pay more attention to the musical side of things, and the instrumental composition. Thanks! Such a gift this was from Taylor.
Ok ~ I'm not big on twitter so this may already be obvious to others, but not only is My Tears Ricochet clearly about Scott, but I also believe Hoax is. Like most, I worried when I first heard it that Joe had done something awful to her, but if you listen deeply it's about the betrayal of her life's work. Her music is the 'no other shade of blue' that will do. Her 'Kingdom come undone' is her art stolen - it is the 'no other sadness in the world' that will do for her. Am I wrong?
Agreed, I thought so too. In hoax she mentions 'what you did was just as dark' which I believe refers to her masters. Moreover, she says 'stolen lullabies' which is obviously a nod to the scooter Scott situation
Ananya Jain yes, I’m also sure invisible strings is about Joe, but I read Hoax was added afterwards, the album was finished and she wrote that and the 1. Oh, I really hope you’re right and it’s not about him.
Epiphany just gets better and better.... It talks to me on so many levels. It might be my number 2 song of hers all time.... Its a work of the highest genius...
one thing about you that you're so open-minded. you never judge any song bcs it is meant to be how it was made, it's always feel like a song discussion with you🤍
For me it's impossible to chose a favourite. The whole album is beautiful and I love Taylor moving away from pop. Even though, that said, I love her pop music too & country for that matter. She has proved that she is a songwriting genius. I love this album 🎶🎵😍♥🎼💞
Yayy part 2! Love your reactions sm and what you‘ve got to say about the instrumentation/production, lyrics, vocals, effects... Your reaction to romance by Camila was the first one i checked out and ever since i enjoy all the others 👍 Also please react to my future by Billie and to the end of everything ep by Noah Cyrus :)
I'm so obsessed with this album! Exile and Epiphany I think are my faves but it's so hard to choose!! I love how continuous and whole this album feels - like I can just listen to it all at once without feeling like any song is out of place. And all the songs are connected to each other lyrically - once you listen to it a few times you pick up on little links, like the multiple references to bleeding, fire and films. Such a masterpiece!
Peace is gorgeous on every level. I loved your reaction so much. You're very well spoken, and your voice is beautiful. Thanks for filming! Also: "She says the things that happened to you that you're afraid to say yourself" Ouch. That's very true. Beautiful. Thanks again.
Your comments about This Is Me Trying got me thinking. A warming up orchestra and an attempt at "trying" parallel don't they? Not only does the sound conjure the orchestral boom of "A Day in the Life" as you made me realize, but it really, really does reflect an unfinished, imperfect thing -- which is what she's singing. "This is Me Trying." Imperfect, but a work in progress.
I agree with you on this feeling like an album of two parts and you were very smart to have divided it up. It was hard to listen to it all in one go the first time and process it all. Can't pick a favorite song as it seems to change daily.
I wish Taylor could see your reaction videos to the record. You put so much thought and heart into it and I'm sure she would be so appreciative of that :)
thank u nina for pointing out those little sounds I didn't noticed the first time I listen to the album hshshs those little sounds will never go unnoticed again hehe
I love your videos, I’m a huge Taylor fan and I try to listen to her records very carefully but you show me so many details that I couldn’t see by myself and that allows me to appreciate and enjoy the music even more. Thank you! 💕
It's so hard to pick a favourite but maybe dynasty. I don't dislike any tracks. This is me trying felt like a throwaway at first and now it's in my top five.
I love this album so much!! My fav song is invisible string for sure. Also there are a lot of little things that feel like country Taylor. Betty literally could have been on her self titled album or fearless.
@@idle_worship a fan account I follow wrote an article about that: medium.com/@thetayonion/death-and-cancel-culture-in-taylor-swifts-folklore-a144e7150198
My top 3 are: 1.) Exile 2.) Epiphany 3.) Illicit Affairs I think that the whole album is brilliant, absolutely brilliant, but those 3 songs speak to me and their lyrics are SO POWERFUL!!
I love your breakdown of production techniques. T Swift is such a purposeful composer and lyricist. I adore you doing her work the courtesy of breaking it down like you do. I wonder if you think this song is influenced by the horns and symphonic sounds of Sir Paul's music? Knowing she's referenced him and is friendly with Stella, I think that as layered as Folklore is and as lyrically tight as it is, it is very McCartneyesque. I enjoy your reactions very much. My Tears Ricochet and Peace are my favorites although Exile's vocals are pretty unbeatable.
It’s my favourite album, and I wasn’t sure she could top her first 7 in this fashion. It’s just an all around masterpiece. It just completely poured out of her so naturally, suddenly releasing it was an incredible decision as well.
I believe “This is me trying🎵” goes up vs. down because her intention is hopeful in that moment in that relationship. If she lowered her voice on that last note, it would sound more expected, yes, but also more finished and final.

It's funny bc in illicit affairs Taylor goes up on both "down" and "high" so she does the opposite thing (for down) but then also follows the word (high) later on. And she also does have a song, Dress, where she stops on the word "stops" (but only in the last chorus so it's not overdone)
damn rip part 1
The pattern “but there’s robbers to the east, clowns to the west” reminds me of B*Witched from back in the day “I say hey boy sitting in your tree, mummy always wants you to come for tea”
Omg I thought of that instantly too!
Yes that’s it!! Oh my gosh thank you Hannah 🙏🏻
Clowns to the West*
Jesús Rodríguez ha. Of course 😉
I have covid19 since past weekend and This album feels like home to me, like it helps to heal💙
@熊仔 thanks!!! 🙌🏻❤️
Get well, and dont be afraid to go to the hospital if you need to.
Worst thing i ever had in my life this April.
Get well soon! 💓
You'll be alright my friend
Get well soon. ♥️
I don't know how to express it, it's just magical, I thought I'll not like some of the songs but after listening to it again they repeatedly play when I'm not realizing it.
fab! love these as always :). i completely agree about the orchestra warm up too in this is me trying and i’m so glad you pointed that out. also i don’t know quite why but especially with headphones illicit affairs, her voice sounds so close to you like she’s literally singing in your ear. no i have no idea why that matters to me or what it means but i love it
You should react to Taylor's Folklore documentary on Dianey plus. She explains a lot of it.
@@ananyajain8316 Yes! Scott unable to sleep because of 'stolen lullabies' was a giveaway moment for me. Folklore - the gift that keeps on giving lol
I hope it is!!! It breaks my heart to think it’s about Joe
@@claudiaa753 I don't think she's broken up with Joe. I'm a 113% sure invisible strings is about Joe, clearly they're together
Ananya Jain yes, I’m also sure invisible strings is about Joe, but I read Hoax was added afterwards, the album was finished and she wrote that and the 1. Oh, I really hope you’re right and it’s not about him.
It IS like an orchestra warm up! Ah, nostalgia...
(violinist)
Epiphany just gets better and better.... It talks to me on so many levels. It might be my number 2 song of hers all time.... Its a work of the highest genius...
YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL AND TALENTED🥰
Track 17 needs a reaction when we get hold of it. It's called "The lakes"
I NEVER cry listening to songs, but epiphany got me....
Ooooh I love Enya. I didn’t make that connection until you said it but it’s so right!!
one thing about you that you're so open-minded. you never judge any song bcs it is meant to be how it was made, it's always feel like a song discussion with you🤍
you're so insightful! loved this video, will surely look into your other videos!
16:24 "don't make me cry please" , same while sobbing too😂 Great review and dissection of her masterpieces, I love it💕
For me it's impossible to chose a favourite. The whole album is beautiful and I love Taylor moving away from pop. Even though, that said, I love her pop music too & country for that matter. She has proved that she is a songwriting genius. I love this album 🎶🎵😍♥🎼💞
I feel my brain cells multiplying just watching this. You have have such an ear for the little details!
Aw thank you! I love Camila so much!
I've actually been waiting for this , you made my day ❤❤❤
This should be a visual album
The album is magical!!!!!got a lot of fave August will be my fave it's my bday month!!!love Taylor too!!!and love your reactions!!!!
Peace is gorgeous on every level. I loved your reaction so much. You're very well spoken, and your voice is beautiful. Thanks for filming!
Also: "She says the things that happened to you that you're afraid to say yourself"
Ouch. That's very true. Beautiful. Thanks again.
That melody at the song “peace” that reminded you of something, it reminded me of unfaithful by rihanna 😂
I think betty deserves more love
Its amazing
My favorite song is hands down Mad Woman!
"Epiphany" is her best song ever, in my opinion. Heartbreaking lyrics. Beautiful ethereal music.
I saw that Epiphany is talking about soldiers fighting in the war (first verse) and comparing it to frontline workers during COVID-19 (2nd verse).
It's such an amazing album, it just touches the soul...
Oh my gosh I’m a massive fan of Enya too ! I thought I may be the only one to of thought that this album had elements of Enya influence 🤍
thank u nina for pointing out those little sounds I didn't noticed the first time I listen to the album hshshs those little sounds will never go unnoticed again hehe
Thank you Nina for sharing his beautiful reaction to ‘folklore’ . I love this album and Taylor so much. Can’t decide the favorite ♥️
exile/peace/my tears ricochet are my faves!
Her best album period.. thank you for your reactions.
Blake and Ryan’s other kids’ names are James and Inez, which are all mentioned in the song Betty :)
I love your videos, I’m a huge Taylor fan and I try to listen to her records very carefully but you show me so many details that I couldn’t see by myself and that allows me to appreciate and enjoy the music even more. Thank you! 💕
Thank you so much for watching!
this makes me hear the parts of the song that I didn't notice
my tears ricochet is THE SONG
Seven
Exile
August
Are my absolute favorite
Loved your reaction.... 💛
The taste 😍😍
Kumar Kislay add illicit affairs, my tears ricochet, mirrorball and cardigan (basically the whole album)
I’m really surprised you didn’t react to NFR by LDR I would love to hear your take on it :)
My favorite feel happy song is Invisible String
my favorite anger song is Mad Woman
the most personal song to me is Seven
the main theory that i saw is that "illicit affairs" is written from the perspective of the girl in "babe" by taylor and sugarland!
Can't wait for the 17th track for this album called The lakes!!!!!
It's so hard to pick a favourite but maybe dynasty. I don't dislike any tracks. This is me trying felt like a throwaway at first and now it's in my top five.
Love this album. Probably my fave of hers....
Peace is truly the most underrated song on this album. It really touched me and I got emotional just seeing you get emotional too
QUEEN OF REACTION
💕
I love this album so much!! My fav song is invisible string for sure. Also there are a lot of little things that feel like country Taylor. Betty literally could have been on her self titled album or fearless.
I knew you gonna cry In peace 💔😭
Right? I also think that peace is an incredible and very emotional song.
I kinda feel like this is me trying is about somebody battling with depression and suicidal thoughts.
there's the lyric about stopping by the lookout and contemplating jumping. It is about mental health & self-sabotaging
@@franks8462 and also she talks about sharing her feelings to a stranger, which, I feel means a therapist.
Also hoax when she says “stood on the cliff side screaming give me a reason”
Yeah she implies that with "Pulled the car off the road to the lookout. Could've followed my fears all the way down" but almost no one caught it.
@@idle_worship a fan account I follow wrote an article about that: medium.com/@thetayonion/death-and-cancel-culture-in-taylor-swifts-folklore-a144e7150198
Taylor is known for her beautiful bridges :)❤
My top 3 are:
1.) Exile
2.) Epiphany
3.) Illicit Affairs
I think that the whole album is brilliant, absolutely brilliant, but those 3 songs speak to me and their lyrics are SO POWERFUL!!
Hope you'll be able to react to Taylor's the long pond studio session out right now at the Disney channel!!!!!!!
