On the first youtube reaction of yours: Exile. Bon Iver is just goose bump producing and then Taylor comes in so beautifully. I don't even care what the lyrics are in this one (and they are good). It could just be la-la-la and this would be a favorite. Also Cardigan (and love that video).
I think it's so underappreciated how you don't cut the song in the middle-sentence but actually waited till it arrives at a certain point to give your insights. A lot of people just stop it whenever they wanna talk and that kinda irritates me
I'm pretty sure you have Blake in mind. 😂 He can be REALLY annoying sometimes sticking solely to the analysis of the production and not connecting with the song emotionally

Exile, My Tears Ricochet, Hoax, Mirrorball and Illicit Affairs are my favourites. It took me a long time to listen to the whole thing because I kept repeating Exile lol
Pause at 11:36. When I first heard this song I said “I don’t know who Bon Iver is but he gives me SERIOUS Leanord Cohen vibes. “ I have watched so many other reactions to this album and you are the first person to say he sounds like Leanord Cohen. I swear nobody else even knows who he was. RIP btw. A legend.
This album is even better with headphones. There's just so much intricacies and details within the production that makes it addictive and demands multiple listening to grasp the whole thing. Anyway, love the album as a whole and it surprised the hell out of me, like it makes me tear up for some reason unlike her other albums since "Red".
Cardigan is track 2, August is track 8, and Betty is track 14. (These are the love triangle stories in different perspectives) 2+6=8 8+6=14 Track 6 is Mirrorball. In the lyrics it says something about showing different versions of you so thats kind of cool and creepy haha
I agree completely about this album being something special and about the tracks blending well together creating a more cohesive sound. My tears ricochet, mirrior ball, seven and August all perfectly blend together to create a mood. I find myself humming the 1 constantly. "In my defense I have none" has to be the best lyric of 2020
Yes! I've been waiting for your review. Edited to add: it's so nice to watch a reaction without the screaming/crying/swearing. I really appreciate your calmness and how you explain the production along the journey, as well as your perception of the songs.
It's always fun starting one of your reaction videos thinking that I have picked up on all of the details of a song after listening to it 77 times in a row, only for you to point out 5 things in the first 15 seconds of your first listen that I never heard.
Waited for this video, did not disappoint haha, like the approach of just analysing it yourself without too much research, obviously its then fun to research afterwards and things but its a nice way to enjoy the music and even create your own stories or whatever too 😊 Also also, just wanna point out Nina's amazing talent to listen to production, melody and lyrics all at the same time and manage to pay attention to them all equally, its actually very impressive haha 😁
My tears ricochet is about Scott and her old label, how they stole her music. I know on your first listen its about the music first then the meaning later. Listen to the song again with that meaning...hits different.
After listening a half a dozen times I hear bits and pieces of her old songs referenced here. It breaks my heart a little more each time. You can tell how wrenching this is.
I've seen several reactors and I personally love you, cause you are so clean, with no poison or bad intentions. Very smart and appreciate the little details most people misses.
I am a poetry enthusiast so I love Taylor's great play of words. It's also amazing to hear reactions from a musician like you. And loved that you got goosebumps too. Thank you for sharing your insights. Much love.
Really love ur reaction, not only the lyrics but also the instrumentation and production that I have no idea about. I feel educated. And your voice is so soothing like a lullaby
What a fantastic album. I enjoy all her albums including Lover but Folklore is really special. I watched your Pt 2 as well. Couldn’t agree with you more regarding “Exile.” It IS really special. I have that song on replay and cry my eyes out. I know nothing about music composition but get the “feels” when they harmonize. And those lyrics?. ❤️❤️❤️ this song!!
she's always good at low notes! I was a fan when she hit low notes on Last Kiss' verses or Treacherous' verses, yet music industry only demanded artists to be able high note
Yup! It's like she mastered it years ago and it surprises me everytime when she plays within her range, and the way she gives the rightful emotion. It surprises me more when she plays within her higher register💕
This might be my favorite folklore reaction video. I love that you pay attention to everything - the lyrics, the production and the story. I also love your insights and interpretation of the lyrics, some I’ve never even thought about. You just got yourself a subscriber in me! 😁
Omg I’ve been waiting all week for this 🤩 i agree about the lower vocals being highlighted in her more recent music but never better than in this album. It’s like a point was being made. Just beautiful.
The more I listen to the album the more my favorite changes. Right now I love "seven" for the full tilt into traditional folk. It has Judy Collins "Secret Gardens" or Nanci Griffith "There's a Light Beyond these Woods" written into it. Hard lean into folk nostalgia. I am actually getting ready to convert my parents into Taylor Swift using this album. They are huge folk music fans.
Oh Nina, you are the sweetest person... I love your voice and the way you explain things, and your face lights up whenever you like a musical solution!! Tay Tay never disappoints!
The house that Taylor purchased in Rhode Island was owned by Rebecca Harkness who was known as Betty, the love triangle is between Betty, her boyfriend James and another girl that James cheated on Betty with. The house is in a resort town where summer parties are loud, expensive and full of wealthy socialites. Rebecca Harkness married the heir to the Standard Oil Company, the town was not happy because she was not a socially acceptable addition to their community. He died and left her the house. After she died the house sat empty for some time until Taylor bought it. It is very much a concept album with a story thread throughout. And amazingly beautiful I might add. Taylor's best work yet.
Agree with so many of your observations, especially how you picked up on the transition from folksy pop to her more country roots mid way through, (eg I believe she’s referring to growing up in PA in Seven), and all the rich harmonies, and the unique, more intimate, non-studio sound. Your voice is lovely, as well. New to this channel & subbed!
The last three you listened to - Mirrorball, Seven, & August - are my faves on the album if I had to pick a top 3. I think Seven is my favorite overall, it's just so simple and beautiful; it sounds like childhood and perfectly captures the fairytale magic associated with that time. It also kind of puts me in mind of all the magical films I'd watch when I was young (and still do) like A Little Princess, The Secret Garden, Fairytale - films like that. I don't know, Seven just really moves me I think it's one of the most beautiful songs Taylor has written, if not the most beautiful to me at least. I also wanted to say how much I appreciated you pointing out Taylor's lower range because I have said for AGES how amazing it is and she deserves more credit for it. It's so rich and strong - not easy to hit those notes and she does it effortlessly. I feel like all the attention always goes to how high someone can sing but all parts of the voice are beautiful and worthy of praise and Taylor's lower register definitely deserves recognition. Anyway, loved your reaction and break down as per usual and am excited for part 2!! xx
Ninaaaa you make me hear music very differently and you taught to me pick up all the stuff done during production and I'm always astonished by how much you know ..thank you for teaching us❤❤
Great video I always enjoy your analysis! I think it interesting how mirrorball brings this 60s vibe that continues on through seven and August. By the way Seven is my absolute favorite song, I cannot get it out of my head. The melody, structure, and vocals are so unexpected and the lyrics are lovely.
In seven she sings "I hit my peak at seven... feet" haha you fell for it 🤭 seriously what a lovely song, heartbreaking lyrics but still beautiful. My favourite not only in this album but my favourite Taylor Swift song ever and I've been a stan since 2008 ♥️♥️
I’m interested to hear what you think of the track order once you’ve listened through them all! On first listen the album felt long and I zoned out for the last 2, but on relisten they are amazing
I'm writing this before watching your video, but i already know its gonna be AMAZING! i was waiting for you to react to this album cuz i heard so many beautiful things on the production and vocals and i know ur gonna notice them too and that's amazing cuz i get to share that emotion with you! like i saw other video reactions and i was rooting for them to notice the things that made me love this album and none of them noticed, but i know u will! and i also know that with you im gonna catch even more things cuz u got such an amazing ear! and so much knowledge! i really love ur videos, ur a PRO!!!
I have always respected her as a great artist since 2009 but I've never followed her music as a hardcore fan. Then I became a mild swiftie during her Reputation era🙃 Most of the time, I come across her songs when they're all over the radio or the internet etc. And she never disappointed me. Folklore is my first time experiencing a TS album release. And now I'm on a Taylor binge spree. Maybe I'll be a full on swiftie by the end of this year or maybe sooner than that.
The 3 songs are: Cardigan from Betty's perspective. Betty from James's (Betty's boyfriend) perspective. And August from the perspective of the girl James cheated on Betty with. PS: you voice is so calming
Aspects of Swift's music toward the end reminded me a bit of Agnes Obel, and in places of AURORA Aksnes -- both amazingly talented songwriters with great/unique voices . You've reacted to Aurora's covers of other musicians, as well as her recent single: 'Exist for Love.' I recommend some of her live performances -- 'The Seed' live at the HAIK Concert (performed in a forest); or perhaps 'It Happened Quiet,' 'Little Boy in the Grass,' or 'Through the Eyes of a Child' at her Christmas concert performed in a Cathedral (with her band, plus orchestral ensemble and chorus). Also songs from her performance in Iceland at the KEXP Concert. Agnes Obel has any number of great haunting 'moody-folk' songs that need reactions: 'Broken Sleep' and 'Island of Doom' (from new album, 2020); 'Aventine' (2013); 'It's Happening Again' (2016), 'Riverside' (early work, 2010), and others.
Loved watching your reaction :). Exile is my definitely favourite from the first half, and I think the first half is stronger than the second half but it's a very strong album!
Love your reaction/analysis to this album. I think it’s a beautiful album, lyrically superior, and while it seems very simplistic there are so many layers to the songs that I hear with headphones. My favorites are August, how she can perfectly describe a summer fling that didn’t work out, Exile is perfection, hoax is the saddest song and she chose to end on that note instead of a more upbeat song, and this is me trying.
i adore your reactions SO much bloody hell like they make me think about the music in such a different way and i love hearing such passion just thinking about musical components of a song
August is definitely my favorite song on this album! It’s even more special for me because my wedding anniversary is in the month of August - so August has a special place in my heart. 💖 Thanks for your review!

The Last Great American Dynasty is about Rebekah Harkness, she is the previous owner of Taylor's Rhode Island mansion.
(+) Also , the mansion where Taylor used to throw 4th of July parties with her "bitch pack friends from the city". So many similarities between them.
