I don't play Project Sekai, but i know a few things (Like world's worst mother) and Mizuki and their sister are definitely my favourite characters....partially because Mizuki's character hits close to home...and i absolutely love Yuuki too...the way she encouraged Mizuki while also being extremely careful not to make it feel like she was forcing her down one road or the other really reminds me of my own sister (and it makes me miss her)

Mizuki's gender is said to be nothing in the game, so don't trust the replies because Mizuki is not canonly trans, I do head canon mizuki as a femboy, but I'll use they/ them to avoid conflicts. In their story, it was said that mizuki was born with a feminine body and voice, this is why they were getting bullied in middle school, but since they started wearing the way they like, stuff like feminine fashion, it was more shown that they look like a girl more and more, and for me I think it is just Mizuki's desires, just to let you know, looking like a girl will not make you one, and it'll not make you trans either, and I think this is what mizuki's story is about, you don't have to think about people when you want to do what makes you happy. Their gender is written as unknown because it is literally the whole point of the stories, it's about Mizuki wanting to ignore the whole gender norm stuff and be the person they always desired to be, we did not know mizuki's original gender as a male till last year or something close, so for me the company is either just making stuff more complicated, or they want to leave the idea itself to us to decide. mizu sis enabled mizu5 to happen. Only gave him cute things and never taught him how to properly deal with it. He built a world of lies because he didnt know how to deal with rejection.
Only for the lies to break in mizu5 when he wanted to fix his wrongs by telling ena the truth he had somehow been able to hide.

Does she have to scream that she’s transfem for you to get it or does that fact scare you so much that you refuse to acknowledge it? You speak as if I’ve said something wrong but you’re completely ignoring her story; Mizuki has never once used male pronouns nor been referred to as such until the bullies referred to her as a male. They’re bullies, would they care to respect Mizuki’s identity? No. So yes, it does matter.

I'm just gonna go with the transfem headcanon because that one shows to be the actual closest thing to where the story is going as if now.
They are assigned a gender at birth that quite literally makes them depressed beyond comprihension and they could never truly fit in with this assigned gender in any shape or form. Literally take a look at any story that shows them in those earlier years, and there's just absolutely no sign of enjoying being like "that".
And that they've only truly grown comfortable with others, and comfortable with being more social, when they stopped being like that. When they stopped presenting themselves as a man. And at that point, is it REALLY pretending to be something you aren't? I don't know but Mizuki's personality in the higschool stories always seem a lot more like themselves than in flashbacks. There's no pretending about that.
