    Great DIY video Run & Gun. Well presented and you covered all the basses. I used DuraCoat to finish my R700, Glock, and a friends H&K. They all turned out really professional looking thanks to your video.

    If you use an airbrush, you can add a flattening agent to remove any and all the shine.
    Nice job on the rifle!!

    Looks nice and pretty straightforward. But around here their doing the cerakote on rails for $65 and I'm really not a diy guy so I might just pay the extra money to get it done

    I'm gonna go ahead and give you a thumbs up even though you went ahead and continually referred to the handguard as the upper. And I'm gonna go ahead and thank you for taking the time to make this video.

    Dura coal now has an additional chemical that starts immediately hardening the paint. This hardening continues as time passes. I'll be doing the synthetic rack on the Mossberg 88 next week. Probably let it cure for a month as it's battleship gray matching my ATI battleship gray stock and grip. May use gun powder blast to get all the oil and grease off. As far as coats, I'll just make that decision next week.

    • @miracleandsons
      @miracleandsons 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hardener is the small puncture you Caused with the red cap. The can has hardener build into the actual can. Almost like a single stage paint. Enamel is a similar paint process.. you can get the same paint with any color from your local Napa auto parts. Same can same process

  • @drummerdave26
    @drummerdave26 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    get cerakote instead, you can mix the hardner in to make it flat, duracoat cans have to much hardner in them, can see the shine on that rail, it also takes a month to cure properly for best results, unless you have an oven to cook it in, beyond that this stuff is ok, you should have found a cerakoter to do the whole rifle to make it look like it came that way. hope it's holding up for you

    Looks great bro! Im doing an entire rifle in ODG. Im going to accent it with a different colored set of lower/upper parts. I may go with FDE or even a darker Earth tone? But im starting with an ODG lower and a raw upper. So i think ill have a bit of an easier go of it!?! thanks though ,the ways to hold the parts are many! lol Lots of ideas!!!

    What were the minor mistakes? Anything I need to keep an eye on or look out for? I’m thinking of going this route with my scorpion evo carbine, but may use their stencil kit. Trying to find out various methods and videos to help me decide if that’s what I wanna do, cerakote may be just a bit out of my budget at the moment especially for a PCC.

    • @realtalk6340
      @realtalk6340  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Terry Will very well. Cerakote will hold up better, but I don't mind the wear and tear look when it comes to my toys that's get real
      Use. :)

    • @milsurprifles
      @milsurprifles 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Terry you might try Aluma-Hyde from Brownells. You will need an oven to cure it in, but it works fantastic. It has a matte finish, it’s super durable, and Brownells has made it an almost perfect match to Magpul FDE. It’s about $25/can.

    How well does the color Mach the stock looks kinda dark

  • @mds6387
    @mds6387 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Do you think sand blasting with glass bead would be a good option? It would probably strip down the original finish though, but wouldn't that be better for applying duracoat? I truly don't know, that's why I'm asking. Sand blasting would offer a better sanding of crevices that can't be touched by sand paper.

    • @realtalk6340
      @realtalk6340  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      mds6387 that's would be great... but u don't have to go out of your way. I would be careful on not blasting the interior of the end that connects to the upper. :) but sure, that would be the best option

    • @mds6387
      @mds6387 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a blast cabinet, so it would be more convenient for me to blast parts. And yes! Must be careful around threads. Sand blasting will tear them up. Glass bead you can get away with not hurting them too much, but better safe than sorry. Thank you for your replying! It really helps me decide what I'm going to do.

    • @p99shooter
      @p99shooter 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      mds6387 I've tried both methods, Sir. Roughing up the surfaces with a scotch-brite pad, then applying Duracoat with the aerosol sprayer.. And, media blasting the parts then using an airbrush for the DC. If either way is prepped correctly, both can look great, but blasting can give you a more consistent surface for adhesion. Duracoat recommends Media Blasting with 60-120 grit Aluminum Oxide, @ 60-80 psi.

    I'd like to do this to my STNGR hand guard, but I'm afraid the FDE won't match my Magpul SL-K stock or MOE-KE+ pistol grip. Plus, I'd miss seeing the filled lettering of the logo.
