Tata Punch vs Renault Kiger vs Maruti Suzuki Ignis I Rough Road Test!

- Testing front wheel drive compact SUVs off road might sound absurd but the reason behind this test is the Tata Punch. Tata has been making bold claims of the Punch not only being comfortable on the road but also when the going gets tough. So to verify its claim we have put it against the Renault Kiger with a much more powerful turbo petrol motor. The Ignis might feel like the odd one over here being a lot cheaper than the other two cars but it is the most affordable way of buying a car with a bit of SUV DNA. In this video we have come up with three rough road tests to see which one performs the best.

Ignis with an amt did that ? Very impressive!
Ignis is urban suv, best suited for metro cities & punch is much suited for rural conditions .
Punch appeals more than ignis but when it comes to reliability, service, engine , gearbox, ignis is a clear winner.
Puch is 🚜
I took testdrive of both ignis is just lovely ..the clutch is easy to use unlike punch which is very deep and it gives lags while changing gears and the new phase 2 engine does have vibrations ..ignis is just perfect
Ignis is perfect car for city, its so compact that it feels like riding a bike. Also easy to park.

Also that 1.3 Diesel in Ignis was Superb ⭐
@@ameya1970 true.. And for punch, power to weight ratio very poor! and also it is 3 cylinder car, Ignis 4 cylinder.. No way it stands comparison with Ignis - the non Turbo punch 3 cylinder
@@ameya1970 not only in Ignis, but in every car the engine was. They are extremely easy to drive in city, though not as effortless on highways as i feel the engine is strained after crossing 90 KMPH

@HARRIER yes you are right till 120 there is no issue but after 120 yes there is but on the other side how often we drive more than 120..
AMT Ignis vs MT others??
What kind of logic in this !!!
Very nice test, Comparing Amt car with MT cars. Nonsense.
Didn't intend a pure head to head comparo. And if anything this shows that AMTs have improved quite a bit and a much closer to manuals than when they first made an appearance?
How does amt really matter for the breaking and suspension. Yes about the uphill road climbing I understand but if you see the title it says off road test. And then people just type in anything they feel like..lol😂
Ignis has the segment leading approch and departure angles even with that ground clearance.
I have an Ignis Delta which I am driving since past 4.5 years. Even on rough and muddy surfaces it does a good job. Ignis for me any day.
Bro i felt its suspension to be stiff which makes uncomfortable driving
Ignis is hands down the better car among these three! No doubt!
nope
In your dreams.
The safety and ride quality is bad.
Punch being heavier still offers 20-21 kmpl in highway with AC, ride quality is better and has good build quality.

Maruti has best after sale support, It says all. No comparison here with any other manufacturer.
A good car is not a good car if not handled properly by authorised service center and tata is best example of this.
I guess the after sales thing varies from location to location. I have had no issues with Tata's after sales in last 5 years of ownership. Whereas we had a hard time with Maruti for my friends Brezza. We had to escalate the issue to the Regional heads. Still the issue is unresolved. Then you have to weigh in the safety aspects of Tata. So yea, set the priorities right and choose accordingly.
@@iavik for me tata was worst in Delhi metro city. I am not sure about other regions. but maruti is doing great here.

Service matters the most in longer run not the build quality which even gets worst by the service people.

Exactly they did some "magic" to make the punch go faster and stable
If I had a dollar for everytime I heard this 🤣
Non of these 3 cars ideal scenario if nothing close to what is being tried out here. So maybe Punch is a clear winner of this test, but its stil the ignis and kiger which would suit the majority of the crowd for their urban duties. If Tata had priced the Punch a big more aggressively or giving a more powerful engine for the price it demands then it would have been a clear winner. Styling and safety rating are the only big USP I would say after a 300km drive in a Punch recently(wish it had a suitable engine)
Nope, Ignis has sold about 1500 units, and kiger about 3000 units in November. On the other hand punch has managed to sell about 6500 units in November. Plus due to its far better built quality punch is likely to be expensive. Only thing bad about punch is lack of turbo engine which will be solved as tata has already confirmed the 110cc turbo engine to be in pipeline, along with diesel, cng and ev variants.
Finally someone actually talking about the engine . Just take maruti's vvt engine put it there 😂😂😂
A 3 cyl engine puts out better low end torque than a 4 cyl engine in the same capacity....that's why punch is suitable in such driving scenario....
Tata should have given punch a powerful engine.
@@kd6788 I would say its the initial hype which is common market trend. Punch would settle for 4-5k units once the initial hype and bookings are over. So too early talk numbers. A point to remember is Hyundai and Maruthi have Punch rivals on cards too. Punch is a great package not denying if it had a better engine. EV plans are there. But never heard of a diesel coming into Punch or any budget TATA.
Ignis ❤️❤️❤️
Ignis is the best choice for a common man

IGNIS 👌👌👍👌
99 percent of customers buying these wont take it to offroading, the ignis have better engine and transmission, on road it make more sense, the engine in punch is reaally sluggish, it take more than 16 sec to 100 and transmission isnt smooth as ignis,
Both Punch & Kiger are MT & Ignis is AMT, not cmpararison at all........
Kiger is more powerful and comfortable with broad tyres. Lot of features not found in Punch and Ignis.
Power of NA engine of Kiger is less than the two others
@@Sunil-nz1mv KIGER TURBO have the same price of PUNCH AND IGNIS top variant
13:28, this is because a 3 cyl engine with same capacity as a 4 cyl engine puts out better low end torque than a 4 cyl engine, suitable in such driving scenario, torque loss and traction is significantly lesser than of that 4 cyl engine...hence punch has the advantage in such scenario....
It's not because of that. Maruti's K12 engine has far better low end torque than Tata's Revotron engine. Here they used an AMT Ignis. Had it been a manual, it would have been faster than Punch manual, or if it was an AMT Punch, it would have been slower than Ignis AMT. I have test driven manual and automatic versions of both these cars. Performance and refinement wise, Ignis is much better than Punch.
@@aprasad666 lol, you must be getting informations from fanbois in the internet, i own multiple cars with multiple 1.2 revotrons bs4 and bs6 and many years now....even if it was manual ignis, it wont do any good, i have driven all of my friends cars including swift, ingnis, my inlaws own balenos...all of these in bad hilly roads....its engine doesn't suit for rough roading...its bore and stroke per cylinder is lesser than that of punch 1199cc revotron...this determines how a low end torque can be achieved while driving in bad hilly roads with minimal wheelspin, thats why a 1.2 revotron puts out it max torque at 3300rpm while ignis 1.2 engine has to be reved to 4200rpm for that torque...this causes poor traction and wheelspin considering it has significantly lesser articulation than punch. Many people confuse refinement with overall betterment of the engine, which in this case ignis refinement doesn't work.

why does tires need to be wider...as in friction formula F=mu*W..which is coeff. of friction and weight..
Wider tyres are required for better stability specifically while cornering or at high speed. It is one of the key factor of SUV segment
