    Two big kids playin' and talkin' trains, like the camera isn't even there. Anybody who doesn't get model railroading needs to watch this, for this is why we do what we do.

    The interview with Mandy was pretty good, however you should see the one the Tom did with famed Disney animator Ward Kimball on the old “Tomorrow” show.

    Tom Snyder was born in 1936 in Milwaukee. Mandy was born in 1952 (six months after me) in Chicago. Both are big train towns (Chicago used to bill itself as the "Railroad Capital of the World.") It's easy to see why Tom was into coal loaders - they were "the" accessory back when real steamers ruled the day. I loved the wiring aspect, too. I used a lot of telephone wire that my dad brought home from work as scraps (Western Electric.) I'm not sure of the airdate of this show, but Tom died on July 29, 2007 of leukemia. I'm not sure if he ever made it to York, but he had a glorious Standard Gauge (about the size of G-gauge garden trains) train layout and it has been preserved at the New Jersey Hi-Railers' complex in Paterson, NJ. They have a TH-cam vid of the layout in operation and a website. Thanks for the memories !

    Can anyone tell us the airdate of this show ? (it had to be in Dec. 1996, just before Christmas). This is only one segment of several of this show -- where are the rest? It would be great to see them ALL !

    my layout looks like Mandy's but my wiring is totally "old School". wires EVERYWHERE....I love it !!! Did wiring like that for 23 years as a data comm. engineer, they layout looks new and modern, but the wiring is just the way I did it when I was 8. I wouldn't have it any other way... I did it "my way"... oops wrong star quote. that's ok, Frank loved Lionel's too.

    @grizzleybearz282004 Same here. I grow up with TYCO as a kid. My dad bought me a set almost every year. Some of which I still have. I got into O gauge last year, now I can't stop.

    well i have mth too but i still love my post war lionel and i will say this that mth has surpassed lionel in terms of technology but track wise i prefer lionel fast track

    • @trainliker100
      @trainliker100 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      MTH has made more different engines (not different paint schemes, but actually different engines) than ALL of the other past and present 3-rail manufacturers combined.

    @Roger59Dodge The United Autoworkers union put Lionel in China. How could Lionel aford to pay people $18 dollars an hour to assemble track?

    • @robynwatts6578
      @robynwatts6578 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t blame the UAW, I blame Wellspring Capital Management (the company that bought Lionel from Richard Kughn in 1996.). Wellspring shifted all of its production to China after that. Keep in mind that this was the 2nd time that they’ve shipped production to another country. Remember the MPC-era fiasco when they’ve tried to make everything in Mexico?
