  • Test flight in the Edge 540 after replacing the crankshaft seal.
    Finally getting back in the air after a few days of maintenance and work. Not the best day to practice, but it felt good to get in the air regardless. The Edge 540 is a surprisingly easy aircraft to work on. The ability to remove panels and access everything quickly makes routine maintenance a breeze.

    My prop shipped today. Maybe by next week I will be back converting hydrocarbons to noise.
    I am starting to like the No Pants Edge. Your show name can be No Pants Coats.

      Hahahaha I think the running joke should be that I’m almost done with the pants. And just keep it going for months

      Have you owned airplanes with wheel pants? They are a complete pain in the ... Especially when flying & taxing on grass, muddy, and rough strips. Mine weighed 12 lbs. on my Pitts S1S. Not worth the weight and constant problems for only a slight increase in speed. Try adding air in the tires with tight fitting wheel pants. Total pain and waste of time.

      As my wife says, fashion and practical don’t always mix. The more impractical she is dressed the more I like to look. So it is with wheel pants. 😀

      @@flightalytics But there’s a safety aspect that you are missing. I’ve had wheel pants crack and drag on a tire while landing. It causes the airplane to pull in one direction like applying a brake. Your wife’s outfits are not potentially life threatening.

      @@pittss2c601 I can’t argue with your points and even appreciate them. The minimal speed gain does little for most of us that fly aerobatics. My artistic/design aesthetics side is in conflict with my practical side. Such is the burden I bear.

    Great edit man! I'm glad you got to fly the Edge. Are you an A&P or just really handy with an experimental?

      Had to learn how to keep these things running on our own. But we have an IA oversee everything we do and completes the jobs we can’t

    Had a momentary laugh when I realized that the copyrighted "1979" playing in the background might save you from getting demonitized by the lawyers at the House of Mouse for the brief Star Wars clip

    Crank seal "seems to be holding up". That's funny. Welcome to mechanical devices. Kick the tires, start it up and hit it.

    • @alexandercoats
      @alexandercoats  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When you see the seal, you can't imagine it would hold up to the pressure but it seems to be working, no signs of a leak after the flight
