You're confusing Subject Matter Expertise with Motivation. A good General cares about his people so has low motivation to go to war. Going on exercise is sufficient to train and demonstrate capabilities. However it is clear that kaputins ruzzian empire delusion is not satisfied by his invasions of Georgia, Azerbaijan or Romania so he has to be defeated in Ukraine to stop that delusion impacting more countries. Since Gen Ben has studied the problem in depth he has valuable insight to share. So far this war has been superb value for taxpayers as 5% of historical annual Defence spending has destroyed 50% RF combat effectiveness for no US blood. Those weapons would have cost more to safely dispose of so better to use them as they were designed for. Their planned replacement was already in US defense budget as innovation means nothing stays effective. While the Pentagon likes big numbers to show their commitment nobody values old weapons at the cost to buy new. In summary the cost has been tiny for the result achieved.

It is the US that feels necessary to have and maintain its global influence on all aspects, isn't it? So in that light yes, Russia and China are a threat to the US (policy). Maybe it's time for the US (govt) to sing a lower tune globally since it seems that its people don't see their present global policy as that important anymore. Maybe they think the US can be great (again?) without getting too much involved with global affairs. Maybe it'd be worth trying the North Korean way i.e. self isolation (build the wall!), no real involvement with the global affairs politically, military, economically etc but just be busy with themselves domestically. If Russia were to ever use the nuclear option, their destruction would immediately follow regardless of any attack damage they may have caused to other Nations. Even the nuclear option is questionable as nuclear weapons particularly fission triggered fusion weapons have a gelatin inside that breaks down over time. @@cheesy1nacho924 It's true that Russia has nuclear weapons, but many of the former Soviet states have already joined NATO and more are seeking membership now. That effectively rules out any threat from a land war being waged by Russia. If Russia were to ever use the nuclear option, their destruction would immediately follow regardless of any attack damage they may have caused to other Nations. Even the nuclear option is questionable as nuclear weapons particularly fission triggered fusion weapons have a gelatin inside that breaks down over time. After a certain time period these weapons must be decommissioned, broken down and the nuclear core can be used in the construction of a new device with fresh gelatin. Most Soviet era nuclear weapons are likely past the decommission dates.
