tickytock85 hello! To be honest as a young kid living in the San Fernando Valley in the good ol’ 80’s and 90’s, I had no idea how famous he was. His daughter was my friend and still is, she is and always has been super down to earth. His sons were also very grounded, kind, religious and very respectful. Philip never acted like a “ Super Celebrity” he always showed us by example how to be respectful, enjoy various cultures and different kinds of food and most of all he talked to us about life events & made sure he addressed even the most controversial issues as mentor & life coach! He wanted his kids and the kids they hung around with to be prepared for life & thus succeed academically & professionally! Amazing man!

This is my parents' song. We played it to my mom on her deathbed. She faintly smiled. Could barely listen to this after she passed. But somehow I know that wherever she might be, she cherishes this song and the love she shared with my father. Miss you everyday, mum!

Growing up as teenagers in South Africa in the 70's and through the struggle years, my brother and I collected all their albums from "Head to the sky" all the way up to their CD and DVD collections. In 2010, when my brother died, his last request was that no hymns be sung at his funeral only EWF's music. His final send song off was Fantasy. Thank you for 4 decades of amazing music and memories!!!!

Never heard this version before .... I'm alone in my room, and when the song appeared to finish, and Phillip was improvising - and then breaks into the famous "Do-a-weeeee-ooh-ee-ooh!" ... I got out of my chair and clapped, before the audience in the video did.
And I know this song very well - but it's a different live version where he does a Q & A with the sax player ("he plays so beautiful! Don't you agree?") ... as a teenage trumpet player, I jammed along to this song so hard, especially the Q & A, that I was sure to eventually turn professional. Which I did.

This teenage boy that lives around the corner from me came over to my brother one day and asked him to give him my brother's phone because he always hears my brother playing all kinds of music so he gave him the phone and he put this song on and walked away we asked him how does he know that song and he said my mom plays it and that's how we will keep this music alive playing these songs for our kids
Don Myrick on alto sax was my highschool classmate and was wonderful then and is still wonderful. Englewood Class of '58 is still in mourning for him. We were so happy to see his talents were utilized with such a wonderful talented group as Earth, Wind and Fire.
RIP.
...Which makes the circumstances surrounding his death all the more tragic. For those who don't know, he was killed by overzealous police at his own residence.

High school dances late 70s - life was sweet. When I was maybe 11, I’d sneak into my big sister’s room to play her albums on her turntable. EWF, Doobies, Commodores, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac....that era is who I am and I’m thankful for that.

My name is Christopher Watkins, Phillip Bailey went to Jr. and high school together. I remember phillip always carring his drum home, man could he play. I'm a singer too and I believe I can keep up with phillip in the singing arena. He probably doesn't remember The Happening Center that alot of us all went to as teenagers. The Woofolks lived right down the street on 39th and Franklin St. here in Denver, Colorado. That was probably in 1966 or 1967. Wow, a long time ago. Hey Phillip. If u ever read this, drop me a word or 2. It would be great to hear from u. The last time I saw u was at the Old Corner Inn where I think u met Maurice. Much love to u and the rest of the fellows. For me the most poignant moment of this song is the playing of the horns by the late Don Myrick. He met such an unfortunate death that still makes me angry to this day. Sometimes when I think of him I just shed a tear.
