    As Thailand prepares for a general election on May 14, 2023, the dividing lines are clear: young versus old, civilian democrats versus authoritarian generals, reformers versus conservative royalists. Yet the outcome remains hard to call in an electoral system calibrated to keep Thailand’s military and its conservative allies firmly in the mix - even if the establishment candidates fall well short of winning a popular mandate.

      The truth is regional rivalries, mostly between the people living in Southern Thailand and North-eastern Thailand; while the rest of the regions, Bangkok included, play the role of swing states, depending on how close a relationship the regional party leaders have with main political protagonists. The Thai Army only become the “wild card” should the main political parties can’t settle their differences in parliament over a prolong period which invariably lead to open-ended mass street protests.

    I am 53 years old Thai. We have learned a lot from our political history. I never see Thai people alert to vote like this coming election because of most of us want to change our country by supporting the Moving Forward Party (MFP). Not only MFP's straightforward direction to against dictators and more than 300 policies that covering issues in Thailand but also we believe that they have clear background and intention to eliminate corruption from our country. If only when military men can begin to respect the outcome of a democratic process and people free choice in Thailand's political system, then freedom can be said to be for real in Thailand. This country has a long history of military coup toppling elected government whenever thing doesn't go in their favor, hopefully this time is a different story for Thailand despite the fact a military drafted unconstitutional supreme document constituted a large road block to a genuine democracy in Thailand. Sigh!

      Every country that has done that ungodly sin is in fact in collapse today. Moral rot is the first step to societal breakdown, colapse, violence, and kllling, like in the evil US where 300+ ppl every day are senselessly murdered randomly, and 40% live in poverty and their banks are failing and the nation owes $5.5-million for every working person.

      Simply speaking, Marriage equality Act has been continuously campaigned for by Move Forward Party. (the guy in Orange)
      Realistically speaking, Move Forward Party has 0% chance of securing the majority in the lower house in this election due to deeply ingrained systematic corruption of Thai local politics. They need to partner with Pheu Thai (the lady in red) for a chance to successfully pass the bill. But Marriage Equality is not on Pheu Thai's primary agenda, and it would take years for it to become relevant enough to be brought up in congress again after it failed to be passed last time.

    • @donhuang9855
      @donhuang9855 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correction - Democracy does not need a "Majority" (>51%) vote to govern the nation; the political party that garners the most electoral votes, say 35%, could in theory form a coalition government with other political parties of less than 10% of the total electoral votes in order to reach above the 51% "majority" threshold in parliament. Case in point - Hillary Clinton easily won the popular votes (more than 51%) in 2016, but still lose the Presidential election to Donald Trump.
