Hey there, Football Fans! It's your buddy Mario Manuel from Football Nation and today, we're diving deep into the exciting world of NFL referees and how YOU can become one too! 🤩
Ever wondered about the sweet cash NFL referees rake in? In 2021, their annual salaries ranged from a jaw-dropping $200,000 to a whopping $550,000! 💰💵 But hang on, we're not just talking about NFL gigs. I'll spill the beans on how you can get started with officiating and have a blast doing it! 🙌
Now, hold up! If you think you'll be reffing at the NFL right off the bat, we gotta level with you. It's a journey, my friends! 🛣️ Becoming an NFL referee is a process that demands dedication and time. You need at least 10 years of experience under your belt, and that's where your local chapter comes in. Just like I'm doing in San Antonio, you've gotta start somewhere!
And guess what? It's never too late to embark on this epic adventure! Whether you're 18 or 45, you can totally jump on the officiating bandwagon. And here's a fun fact for you: the average age of an NFL referee is 51! Age is just a number when it comes to chasing your passion for football! 🏈🎉
Being an official means not only getting closer to the game you love but also making some extra dough on the side. 💸💸 High school games can score you up to $130 per match! Not too shabby, right? And if you're serious about this, you can even hit six-figure earnings at the college level! 💯💯
But wait, there's more! To get started in the Lone Star State, you'll need to take care of a few expenses. Register with the Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO), and don't forget to connect with your local chapter! Dues may be a bummer, but they open doors to the training and exposure you need to level up your officiating game! 🤓
Gear up like a pro! Your official uniform, complete with shirt, hat, shoes, pants, whistle, bean bag, penalty flag, rule book, and down indicator, will cost around $200. But hey, attending classroom trainings might land you some cool hand-me-downs! ♻️😎
Now, to hit the field, there are a few must-haves: 1) pay your dues, 2) get that awesome uniform, 3) attend a state rules clinic, and 4) pass the rules test with flying colors! 📚🏟️ Once you meet these requirements, you'll be living the dream as an official! But hold your horses, you won't be the referee just yet. You might start as a side judge or other positions, mastering those mechanics like a pro! 🕺💃
Yep, there's a whole mechanics book, too! Becoming a referee takes time, practice, and exposure to the game. But hey, it's worth every thrilling moment! 📖🤹♂️
And speaking of crews, let's not forget the team effort! Crew Chief takes the top spot, and alongside them, you'll find the umpire, down judge, side judges, line judge, field judge, and back judge. Each one has their unique mechanics, and together, they make the game tick like clockwork! ⏰👥
Starting out, you'll be mentored by seasoned officials, maybe even assigned to support roles in JV games. Gain experience like a pro athlete gobbles up snacks! You'll meet tons of crews in your first year, but the real goal is to land a spot on a permanent crew! 🏆🏃♂️
And remember, your crew's reputation is gold! Stick together like glue, and ensure no weak links mar your performances. Build your experience and maybe, just maybe, you'll have your own crew one day! 🌟🌠
So, are you ready to blow that whistle and get in the game? Smash that like button, hit subscribe, and let's dive into the wonderful world of officiating together! 🚀🎬 Don't forget to comment below with your officiating dreams, and I'll see you on the field, my fellow football fanatics! 🏈😁
My dad was a Back judge. Now I wanna become an NFL official. Thanks so much for the help.
I just joined TASO and the San Antonio chapter! I am so excited to start football officiating here. Your video was very helpful and if I see you out there, I will definitely give you a holler!! 🤙🏻

Appreciate that @maxxxc101 😃 See you during the regular season!
that was a great video! I have no desire to be a ref! But very informative!! Thank you for the hard work in making this!
Thanks for the feedback! I'll be covering the NFL when the season starts and doing play by play analysis live. Hope to see you later this season @payotimeRamsYT
@@Footballnationusa cool man! If you ever want a collaboration I’d be game !
Great video. I have one thing only if coaches teach the game like its supposed to be played there wouldn't be a shortage of officials. I for one enjoy putting on the uniform and going out there but it is getting out of hand
I agree it makes it difficult to officiate when you're doing half the coaching, especially at the middle school level but still I love having a part in molding the kids into be being honest and better players
San Antonio chapter member here, you should present this video to board to help with recruiting every football ref knows we don’t have enough guys and this can be a very easy video to reference to someone who wants to be football official
Woah! Awesome glad you stumbled onto my video! I was reluctant to post this video because I know TASO has qualms with social media
Have the name Hochuli paganelli Baynes steratore or be a woman or black! Great chance
