Zach Snyder is a director who, like all directors, has strengths and weaknesses. He's a genius at...well, to put it bluntly, making stuff look good. I mean, look at his track record. Sucker Punch and 300 were basically just paper thin reasons to have badass people doing awesome badass things that was visually stunning and that make very little sense. And they are really good movies if you take them as that.
But he never should have been put in charge of the DCEU. The DCEU needs it Joss Whedon or Russo brothers. Someone who can juggle a ton of complex characters and their interactions while making a coherent story that actually, yknow, makes sense. Snyder is not that man. He'll make a movie look pretty, but that's pretty much it.
I think he should've been left in charge of cinematography. Then the movie could still look stunning, but the story and characters would be left in more competent hands. Hands like Alan Burnett's, Geoff Johns', or Paul Dini's, I think.

Here's the scary part - you know the focus between Batman and Aquaman in the Justice League trailers, Batman wanting to speak with him? Batman and Aquaman's fathers are both named Thomas.
Looking at this trailer again, I came to a simple idea of Superman from here going forward:
We are at a point where we have a Superman that the viewer will no longer care about anymore. Who cares if Superman fails from here going forward: We saw him fail in Man of Steel and yet things got back up to par after Metropolis get destroyed.
Who cares if he dies: Just plant his ass into the ground and he'll get back up. We didn't need to wait a whole year to find out his fate since he was pretty much confirmed to be in Justice League four months after BvS came out.
There is no longer any reason why we should care about the DCU's Superman because he has nothing left to lose now. At least in the other medias, we don't know what consequences would be in situations where if Superman dies or fails. Sometimes, he goes mad and things go Injustice. Other times, he flies around Earth to get a second chance. Other times, we don't know because the writers are smart enough to tease the idea without it actually happening. Hell, just look at Justice League Unlimited: In a situation where Superman feels like he is going to fail when Darkseid is about to destroy everything: We get one of his many great speeches (World of Cardboard) and follow it up with one of the most satisfying moments of Darkseid getting punched so hard, DC turned into DBZ for a few moments.
But who cares now? The moment he is reintroduced in Justice League, no one is going to care. And that in itself is one of the biggest tragedies that DC has made for themselves by allowing their film universe already go down this path rather than build up on the idea of "What is going to happen now?"
It would have been like if we had "Iron Man" and then immediately had Civil War with none of the films in between. Not saying that BvS was in bad planning, but clearly if it was better planned out, the majority of people would not be bashing the film and more specifically the universe as clearly Suicide Squad did not do much better in reassuring people that they know what they are doing.
Hopefully Wonder Woman will do well, but when Justice League happens, you know that we're going to get a 2nd wave of some fanboys being very desperate to defend their movie while everyone will continue to bash away. We want DC to do their films well, but we don't want them to just take advantage of their fanboys and try and turn a profit within the first weekend (as we have seen how far the drop rate goes with the DC films)

The point of the Martha part was not to show they had the same mothers name it was to show Batman snap outta his killing of the good guy
Superman having a mother makes him a good guy automatically in Batman's eyes? Batman even acknowledges he knows Superman has parents that care for him and vice versa, but when it's revealed that the mom's name is Martha he breaks down and stops. The entire scene is broken and nonsensical. Granted the rest of the movie is nonsensical, but this was the peak of the idiotic writing and storytelling.
Cartoon Network/Disney XD Superheroes the scene was supposed to show that when Supes said Martha it would remind Bruce why he started fighting crime as batman.

Actually, batman killing is Accurate. This movie takes place after Robin was killed. And in the comics, Batman went insane and started being very brutal after Robins death.

Looking back on this video I just wanna say something to you guys. I understand you disliked BVS' Batman, but think of it like this:Batman was the good incorruptible Batman we all know and love, but the boy he took in as his son, Jason Todd was murdered by Joker....he felt the opposite end of the spectrum he usually does, he was a parent watching his SON get murdered. He saw the world for what it was, a world filled with monsters and killers and he decided to drop the morality because they killed his son, even as far as to kill Superman, now to address the Martha comment before continuing:Batman did not spare Superman because their mothers have the same name, yes hearing that name allowed him to give a listen, but he became more infuriated yelling "Why did you say that name" and when he finds out it was Superman's mother's name he realized what he was doing....he was killing an innocent man just because of a crackpot theory....he looked in the mirror and saw The Joker, he saw Joe Chill. He saw a murderer and a monster, so he upheld his morality a little more now, but Batman is already known to kill people sometimes in the comics anyway sooo....this isn't Nolan's Batman and this isn't Burton's Batman. This is a version of Batman who has been sent thru the pain of watching his mother, father, and SON die. Seeing there was good in the world allowed him to come back to reality. He realized he was a bad guy....so he went to save Martha to at least redeem himself for beating the fuck out of Superman

Eh I'm kinda neutral on BvS I see potential in places but I feel like they got the wrong director and studio for it you can tell Snyder doesn't understand the dynamic of Batman or superman and like you guys said he did rush it they should've left doomsday and wonder woman out and sent for an actor for luthor that actually looks and acts like him and just focused on Batman and superman but on the other hand the whole people doubting superman had lots of potential and batmans action scenes were fucking cool as shit if they'd had better directing and writing then this movie could've been the epitome of a dc film

Yeah, DC live action movies have been way too fucking talky, boring, preachy and pretentious. This nose dive of lameness began with the Nolan Batman trilogy, though a lot of fans will never admit that. DC desperately needs to drop the ultra-serious, real world-y, long winded psychobabble bullshit and just start making SUPERHERO movies! There's a reason why films like Superman 78', Superman II, Batman 89', and Batman Returns are so fondly remembered and loved to this very day.

Martha or not, Batman would've spared Superman. Bats wanted to kill him because he was an unpredictable alien that no one could trust. The fact that he had a mother was something Bats never thought about. It humanized Superman. It shows that he has a mother, someone who actually cares about him. Someone who does trust him. And the fact that Bruce's mother died and him going through that trauma, he didn't want Supes' mother to die either. Their mothers both being called Martha was a coincidence that Snyder and his team realized they could use to their advantage. Unfortunately, it backfired because everyone loves to jump to conclusions and pretend that they know more than anyone else. BvS was a movie that did well considering all the things it had to accomplish. Set up JL, compete with marvel, be a MoS sequel etc. This project could've been a lot worse. But it also could've been a lot better.

It was outright stated long before the movie released that this Batman was based on the Batman from The Dark Knight.

Sadly a lot of people just ignore what is said in that video and handwave it as bs instead of trying to put some thought into it.
it make some good points, but overall BvS is still a problematic film
I tried watching it but as soon as it said the scene of Batman's parents dying was brilliant I knew the rest of the video would be complete bullshit

+Christopher Marabella And the video doesn't say otherwise, the movie isn't perfect but it's nowhere near as horrible as it is made out to be. People just for some reason seem to have forgotten that this is a different take on those characters and not supposed to be a carbon copy of the comics (seriously, why would they just rehash the comic word for word? so that people complain how the comic did it better and how it's not something original?).
