    Excellent review! I recently purchased this mower (after watching many reviews) and am very pleased. Like you, I used one of my existing batteries from my other EGO products to test it while the 7.5Ah was charging. I didn't think it would even operate with a 2.5Ah battery. But it did! And, in fact, I cut for 20 minutes before the battery gave out. It's not really designed for a 2.5Ah battery but, if you have a small yard, it will do the trick. The compact storage capability is a very nice feature. Mine came with the mulching blade pre-installed and two other blades; one for bagging and one for power-saving.

    I recently got the 2165 and couldn't be happier with it. That's the biggest problem with buying an electric mower - the technology is constantly improving. I think they are at the point now where it's safe to buy one and you'll get good service out of it.

      Hi Sue, the Ego shown here let's you do that as well if you push one of the self-propel buttons on the right or left side of the handlebar without also depressing the blade start button. I don't think I showed that separately in the video.

    I just bought this same mower today. The only differences I noticed were that all of my blades were green, and mine included a cheesy cell phone holder. The cell phone holder irks me because, well, it's dumb. EGO includes something stupid like that but makes you pay $18 to get a leaf blower nozzle separately.

    I bought the top of the line ego push mower last year and I hate it. I wish I had replaced my gas with gas. I liked the idea of getting electric, but the electrics mowers are just not there yet. I have to mow more often and for the lawn to look clean I have to rake up after mowing. Think about this. There is a reason you do not see professional gardeners using them.

    • @reallyMello
      @reallyMello  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In my case electric was an improvement, but everyone has their own lawn types, cutting heights, preferences, and sizes so I can understand how you'd have a different experience. I'm curious though, did you try one of their different blades? Some do a better job mulching than others if that was the issue for you. I think pros don't use electric as much because 1, most use ride on mowers and, until recently, the options there for electric are limited and 2, recharging batteries while on the road from house to house would be difficult.

    I've had this mower for 3 months now and find that grass gets trapped underneath it, getting in the way of the blades and therefore shutting it down. I'm in New England and my grass is wet 24/7 because of the rain and the humidity. It's a MAJOR pain to constantly clean it. Has anyone else run into this issue? One dislike that I have is that you can't just hose this down like a gas powered mower to clean it.

    • @reallyMello
      @reallyMello  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just use a garage rag to wipe it down per the manual at the end of the session and it keeps grass from building up on the underside. For st augustine grass it isn’t great for the lawn to cut it when it is wet so I typically avoid that. I’ve had the grass be more sticky when it’s longer and damp or wet, but not to the point it interferes with the blades-unless the lawn is too long and I’m cutting too low.

    J'ai une tondeuse EGO en 52cm achetée il y a 2 ans. Elle a fait quelques tontes au début avec une seule charge. Après 2 ans d'utilisation, perte énorme d'autonomie. Au bout de 1mn, je passe de 5 voyants à 3. Ca reste à 3 pendant10mn et ça passe à 1 directement...bref, 20mn d'autonomie au bout de 2 ans, sans utiliser la traction. Chargeur déjà changé une fois... Pas fiable. Mais c'est une tondeuse agréable si on ne laisse pas trop pousser sa pelouse. Impossible de tondre si c'est trop haut.

    Thanks for the video, about to buy a mower myself so this is very helpful. Not sure if you said or not, but what is the sqft of your lawn? seems like a lot of people are saying very different things as to how long the battery lasts.

    • @reallyMello
      @reallyMello  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m on a quarter acre corner lot. Battery life will vary with mowing height vs current grass length, type of grass, and how wet the grass is. If it’s long and wet it will use more battery. One battery usually lasts me the full cut but in summer sometimes I need to cut in less ideal conditions when it’s still a bit wet and longer than normal and then I may need to pop in a second battery from one of the other tools to finish up.

    • @xemsyt8941
      @xemsyt8941 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@reallyMello thanks for the response! is that quarter acre inclusive of the house or is it total mowing area?

    • @reallyMello
      @reallyMello  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Total lot size including house so big guesstimate maybe mowable area is like let’s say 6000 sq ft maybe 7k. Trying to exclude for things like trees and patios and the house itself. If you plan on buying the ego blower and edger that’s two extra batteries right there so if you have a huge yard you can have one recharging while you swap another in and by the time it drains down you’d be recharged.

      @@zed9955 You get 5yrs. of warranty on the battery by registering it. The downside is with anything that has a batteries they will make their money on the batteries. If you want a 5 hr. battery after 5 years it will cost you $249.00. All manufacturers will do the same thing, make the product relatively reasonable in price and charge a bit for replacement batteries. Perhaps at some point some after market company will come in and sell replacement batteries for far less. Another thing, if you factor in gas prices you would spend at least that much or more in 5yrs of mowing the lawn.

    • @reallyMello
      @reallyMello  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're welcome. It does vary with grass length, mow height, and how wet the grass is, but usually at least an hour in my yard which gives me enough to finish the front and back yard. I tend to cut on a higher setting since it is better for the lawn.

    Excellent hands-on review. You hit all my questions. I was not sure if a user could turn off self propel but I see that you can. I am not as tall as you, so the handle adjustment was another concern of my because I saw on another review the user, who was well under 6ft, was concerned because these mowers seem to skew "longer" that typical mowers, making turns a challenge, as was the slight delay when you get to the end of a row to turn, but he said there was an adjustment that got much better with time.

    • @reallyMello
      @reallyMello  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I do a 5 in the front yard and 3 in the back. If your yard is bumpy and you have self-propelled set to high you might catch some air causing uneven cuts probably more than you would a steel deck mower since this is lighter. That's the only time I've seen that.

    • @reallyMello

    • @reallyMello
      @reallyMello  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like the motor not running? It will for sure disconnect power if you don't have the handles fully extended and locked out. Also, if the battery wasn't fully inserted/locked in? I haven't seen it on the mower, but the edger will temporarily cut power if it detects it can't spin freely when you start it. Are you cutting super low? It will also shut off if you run over something like a thick branch and it detects a jam.

    Our lawn looks like the grass was forced into circular patterns and beat down. If I could "comb" the grass blades back into an upright position, the grass would look like a bad haircut with some of the blades cut and most others sticking up needing to be mowed again.
    We mowed it again, changing the height and a bit more was cut but the same, beat down, appearance was evident. It's been mowed again and most blades are lying down flat on the ground. This can't be happening to other users of this mower. Ideas anyone?

      No mohawk patterns here that I've noticed. I tend to overlap the prior pass by the width of the outer wheel to ensure a good mulch of any blade clippings that scattered outward as a habit. I'm still happy with it.

      @@reallyMello Uneven to one side mostly.

    • @reallyMello
      @reallyMello  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like you may be subconsciously tilting the mower to one side or the other when making turns when putting your weight into it leading to an uneven cut. It is easier to do with lighter mowers like the Ego since it doesn't have the weight of a heavy motor and deck to act as a counterweight. See if focusing on that or changing the angle of the handle higher or lower to counteract your leverage helps.
