No, Edelgard is a hybrid of Shulk and Egil.
@@maxrichards3881 edlegard is the only character that forces her beliefs on others and doesn't change on any route. Rhea leaves her role as an archbishop on like every route and even admits that she did some bad stuff.

I love how Zanza's composure changes throughout this fight. He begins calm and almost apathetic, viewing you as we would view bacteria, something easily destroyed by simple actions, likely not taking the fight seriously because he believes he can toy with you. He momentarily loses his composure when you break the first vision tag, but he quickly pulls himself together. He begins to get annoyed at having to actually put in effort at the beginning of the second phase, but he doesn't really lose his composure.
That all changes when the cutscene before the third phase begins. He is really annoyed by now, and is focusing all of his efforts into defeating you. Then Shulk gets the True Monado, and he finally loses his cool. His battle dialogue becomes increasingly shocked and enraged, and in some of the lines after he gets past half health, he sounds genuinely terrified. And it feels so good to hear this pompous, self-assured monster squirming in terror at Shulk's wrath. It's no coincidence that as compared to the second phase's 600K HP, the third phase only has 300K, while you have a much more powerful weapon than whatever Replica Monado you were using. Takahashi wanted it to feel like a power trip.
What really sells it, however, is what comes after you defeat the third phase. At first, Zanza is enraged by Alvis's seeming defection, then when the symbol appears on the Monado, he falls quiet, so terrified that he can only stammer out, "T-that symbol..." and stare at his impending doom. When the Monado slices through him, he finally loses all his rage and terror, and seems resigned to his fate. There's a great comment on the upload of Majesty that goes into more detail about this.
It makes you wonder what the symbol could mean. All throughout the game, the kanji that the Monado has had has meant different things. The Monado I's kanji means "machine," and it can only destroy Mechon. The Monado II's kanji means "man," to signal that it can now kill Homs in addition to destroying Mechon. What does the True Monado's kanji mean, then? "God."

this track always felt more like the fear Zanza felt at the sight of Shulk's Monado, a new God has entered his realm, through his own hubris, he created that which can destroy him
Well, you're not wrong. Considering that this is Shulk's own "One-Winged Angel" song.
No. It's more than that. He realizes too late that he was never the one truly in control; alvis disobeyed and betrayed him, and chose a new god. He probably felt one who existed only to obey him and couldn't be - or wouldn't be - capable of making their own decisions, let alone go against him. Perhaps he always knew who was the real god, and was harshly reminded of that due to Alvis' meddling and giving Shulk the power necessary to vanguish him. And he could nothing but delay the inevitable.
Alvis basically had him killed because of zanza was an utter failure of a god. Mayneth was marginally better, but neither were good at their job.

Not gonna lie, doing 72K damage with a Back Slash in a Chain Attack because of the Monado III at Level 82 was a pretty amazing moment.
I was only at lvl 69 at this time lol

Was watching my younger sisters (mostly) blind play through of this. She likes playing as riki bc he can spit frozen chunks of saliva at enemies, aka freezinate.
Final battle comes around and she's exclusively spitting chunks of spit at a god
Not only that, she initiated a chain attack *just* so she could land the final blow with freezinate

One of the most satisfying parts for me was fighting Metal Face with the newly upgraded Monado, and all he says is “How can you hurt me!?” and “What!? The Monado ain’t supposed to hurt me!” It was so satisfying for me because I HATED his guts for everything he did in the story. It felt so good to pummel him down to the ground that first time😆

I held back on chain attacks for the first two phases, then let loose in the final. Shaved off over three quarters of his health and felt pretty damn satisfying to boot.

I like how when the Monado is awakened by Reyn in the beginning of the game, the song that plays during the scene starts out like “The God-Slaying Sword,” but then spirals into a short, erratic symphony.
It’s an interesting storytelling device that shows how the Monado in its first form is like a shackled, wild beast. But when Shulk uncovers his Monado, we get the noble sounding “The God-Slaying Sword,” which shows how Shulk was able to tame the Monado
the same thing with the music happens when the monado starts electrocuting shulk before mechonis core.
And there’s good reason as to why the song plays during that scene! Remember, Shulk was wielding *Zanza’s* Monado, not his own. Shulk thought he had tamed the Monado, when in reality it still had insidious, malicious intents against him.
It’s another instance of subtle storytelling that hints towards the fact that the Monado isn’t a simple magical sword; it’s conscious. It thinks, it attacks people who wield it, just as with Dunban, Reyn, and Shulk. It was Zanza
Here's the real question though: Which monado is Alvis's Blade? is it the true monado, meyneth's sword, or (most likely) Zanza's monado?
Alvis doesn’t need a Monado because he is Monado. He’s all of them. Monados themselves are a metaphor for the desire and act of changing the future. If I’m correct, it’s implied that Alvis is either the world or reality anthropomorphized.
After Zanza’s defeat, he says, “I am Monado. I was here at the beginning. And I will proclaim the end.” In addition, Alvis never concretely aligns with anyone. Sure, he takes Zanza’s side throughout most of the game, but it’s only because Zanza was able to physically manifest his Monado.
You can think of this like this: Alvis is like a simulated world and Monados are like a keyboard and mouse. Anyone who wields a Monado can change the world and Alvis simply let’s it happen. As long as you have a Monado, Alvis follows the users’ will
Except that’s not The God Slaying sword track; that’s “Monado Awakens” which is a (very short) but different track; GSS does use the leitmotif though.

Can we please appreciate the work of the english voice actor of Zanza? His last words and this: "It's ... vanishing!" That moment when Zanza finally realized that everything he is will be no more. This misbelief and the dread in his voice as he said "vanishing". That was amazing. That gives me the chills every time I see this scene.
Adam Howden, same as Shulk. Between the two characters, it is *stellar* what he can pull off.

He also voices Anders in dragon age 2. Honestly it's amazing how he sounds COMPLETELY different there. But otherwise that performance wasn't stellar.
The whole game is full of stellar voice acting :)

XC1's ending is a fever dream of sorts to me, I'd been playing the game up late for multiple weeks in a row and ended up awfully sick. Headaches, runny nose, bad coughs, the bad stuff. Despite that, I got up and binged out the last chapter of this game and I say it was 100% worth it. But damn this song is a good representation of that final moment with the almighty Monado III.

I got stuck in the first phase of the fight and didn't remember when I last saved so I just grinded for 3 days straight on the enemies zanza spawned until I hit level 80 and gave it all I had and honestly that memory cemented the game so hard in my heart and soul I might just write a bedtime story for my kids someday off it.

@@smells109 the better theme by far. God slaying sword isn't that goated. It's just more proof that zanza was merely imitating the real thing by taking his theme and "fixing it" to his own preference. I think he knew all along he wasn't the one in charge--best off being friends with the boss of this world after all--but it's sad really. I think he honestly believed alvis to be his friend; a tool incapable of betraying him sure, but he was the only one who knew him in any great length.

At here, Zanza is no longer the final boss, but Shulk is. And we are playing as Shulk.
Thank goodness for being able to lower your level with expert mode. This fight can actually last more than 2 minutes that way.

Beat Zanza at level 78. Zanza 1 and 2 was a pain, took many tries, but obviously after obtaining Monado III, he was a joke
Honestly even after downgrading to level 78, I still crushed him with Fiora/Shulk/Dunban.
Beat him at level 75. I kept missing, but that just meant all the aggro went on Dunban who could tank the hits.
The original version of this song sounded fine, but how garbled everything was made it sound way more ominous than a final boss theme should be. This, on the other hand, sounds properly climactic, the theme of a true final battle to determine the fate of the world.
It's just a shame that I still beat the boss before the initial buildup ends.
I love how it’s not Zanza’s theme anymore. It’s yours.
The only other game to pull something like that that I know of is Pokémon sun and moon
imo this and Irregular Bound are the only downgrades of the battle themes, with this being the worse offender. The vocals shorten all of the syllables which makes them feel very neutered and cut off a lot of the rising tension.
A lot of the new tracks shave off the rough edges from some of the tracks, which is good because a lot of them suffer from the crusty guitar and drums drowning out the rest of the song, but on a more orchestral piece like this I feel like the new mixing style doesn't work. The horns that come in at 0:50 sound like middle school band practice, and in general the brass just sounds really goofy and out of place in this context whereas the more muted horns in the original blended really well.
Part of what makes the original work for me is how they lean so hard into full-on Dark Souls. It's loud, it's bombastic, and it keeps on ramping up. It feels powerful as all hell and it's so dramatically different from every other battle theme in the game that it really hammers home that this fight will determine the very nature of reality itself, and that Shulk has become a powerful entity in his own right. This just doesn't go hard enough for me.

When the True Monado is activated the symbol that appears reads ‘God’ meaning the Monado can now hurt/beat a God. I mean if that isn’t the coolest thing I’ve ever seen I don’t know what is.
I maintain even now, the coolest thing they could have done was name the final boss theme of Future Redeemed, “God: Slaying Sword.”
Bro they removed the more ethereal sounding elements and went full on fuckin Dark Souls. I LOVE IT!!!

I beat the shit out of him with Fiora and Melia, while I was Shulk. Everyone got to use their best attacks for the final chain attack..
Fiora used final cross, then Melia used mind-blast, and lastly, I finished him off with Monado Buster. If that's not a cinematic end to a final boss, I don't know what is!

I got a collectors edition, and had a download code for some of the game soundtrack. I only got 20 songs, and regrettably this wasn’t one of them... but I did get Zanza the Divine and Tragic Decision.
Considering Xenoblade 2 got the whole soundtrack on 5 CD in 2018 (I got them), I easily see that happen again!
Adding brass is always a good idea.
Honestly I liked the original’s more echoey feel. But this is still unbelievably amazing.
I like the instruments in this one more, but some of the parts feel a little less intense. Overall it's still this version that I prefer.

@@somethin7020 They blend out the instruments too much (or the voice is too loud, one of them). It's like it's just the voice sometimes while part of the background music is rather quiet. And the voice isn't as echo-y as in the first one. In the first one there was a male chorus aswell, and you don't even hear that here.
