Thank you for the in depth explanation of why NOT to use Decovil light
Your binding technique is awesome you should post that part as a separate tutorial
What a great pattern and tutorial, thank you !!
Such a awesome tutorial, can’t wait to start!
Absolutely amazing work! Thank you so much for sharing all your tips and experience. I love your meticulous and careful method of bag making. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! I always like to say I have enough time to do it right not twice, and that means careful intentional work. Always happy to share!
Absolutely brilliant!!!
Omg you are the queen of binding. I have learned so much from you on this video. Thank you. 🌴
I already left a message. But I can’t help myself letting you know that I made this bag and use all the tips, and holly moly. My binding is amazing looks so professional, and the zipper technique really made a difference. Thank you so much.
Wow, thank you so much! I am so happy to read all of this! Thank you so much for coming back to share! 🥹🥰💕
EXCELLENT Tutorial! Your instructions are great! Thank you!
I love this sling and you're an excellent teacher!
Amazing job
Beautiful! ❤😊
Great video! Thankyou!!
Great pattern thanks. I love the way you do the binding
it probably the best bag I have sewn
Wow, that is such a huge compliment! Thank you so much!
Great tutorial. I appreciate the lesson on how to bind with water proof canvas. 😊
I just finished this bag and it came out wonderfully! Thanks so much for a well-written pattern! Looking forward to your future bag patterns
Just finished mine tonight and I love it so very much! Thanks!
So happy to hear! 🥰 thank you for sharing!
@@knottedthreadsco will post my masterpiece tomorrow! I loved your techniques(Shannon’s work 🤭) in the Aries, and in this one too! You’re a genius! Let me know if you need another tester!
End result is incredible!
Me ha parecido excelente el paso a paso compartido de este proyecto, porque enfocaste muchísimos detalles que son de gran ayuda para un acabado de calidad. Muchísimas gracias, y Bendiciones🥰
Great pattern and great Tutorial❤. Must have this pattern 😅 and want to try it on domestic machine HD9 Janome. 💪🏻
Thanks again for this pattern & very detailed and informative tutorial in addition to the detailed written instructions! I just finished my first version of this with soft cowhide leather with upholstry woven fabric lining and an twill pocket with machine embroidery for the focal point. This had more stabilizer and foam and fleece than I've ever used on bags before, so a lot more build time, but worth it. And used the same webbing for the strap for the top connector, and a matching 1" version for the d-ring connector strap, and made use of a really thin lambskin for the binding! And very glad I took my time, rechecking this video often, so the first one does look good! Thanks again for sharing this great design!
Thank you so much for the kind words and for sharing! Your bag sounds delightful! I always like to say precise work yields precise results. Extra effort always shows - even when it's in places the average person doesn't see it. So happy you are satisfied with your results!
I want to learn to make this lol
The zipper panel defeated me when i tried tonight, but watching this vjdeo made me realise it was 100% my fault 🤣🤣 i did not listen to the instruction. I should have known better and just follow
Ohh nooo. I'm sorry! I know that's frustrating, for sure. It's one of those things where if you're fighting it, something is wrong. Which is honestly how this whole bag goes 😆. I hope tomorrow is a more successful day for you!
Video is soo awesome! Very detailed! I’m getting ready to make the Rosie soon. I love your rainbow blade you used. I love anything pretty and rainbow. Where can I buy if you don’t mind sharing?
Hi Shannon! I live in Australia and I'm not sure if what sells as waterproof canvas here is what you guys use in the states (we can't get our hands on nearly as much cool fabric as you guys). So I wondered if you were able to do a good close up of your waterproof canvas in a video sometime, perhaps explaining its properties too, as I would love to figure out what you use and hence figure out the closest thing we might have here for bag binding/lining. Your bags and accompanying tutorials are incredible, btw, so thanks a million for sharing them with us!
Australian Bag Making Supplies sells Cordura, a WPC that is ideal for lining and binding.
Double sided tape for the binding!. Why did I think of that before?
I love the fabric webbing and zipper pulls you used for this bag! Can you tell me where you go them ? I can’t wait to make this bag
Great explanation of why you clip curves--for this zipper, but applies for anything sewn with curves! I just bought this pattern & my plan is to make it with leather & a few changes likely but basically the same construction & love your design & all the attention to detail in the design and instructions! But the slip pocket--why not sew the sides & bottom for it, radius corner, then turn & close the open top with the binding?
Thank you! You can do the slip pocket that way, this is just a slight modification of the way I normally do them ☺️
Hello
Thank you for this pattern I can’t wait to make it! This video is very thorough and professional. The question I have is where did you find the brown leather or vinyl that is shown on the front of the pattern and also in this video behind you 😊
Thank you! This is Backstitch Fabrics Saddle Smooth - it's the same material I use for the grey bag I make in this video as well ☺️
Love this tutorial! I'm just having problems with SVGs for Cricut. I've never figured out an easy way to sort the pieces from the instructions. I finally weeded out the extraneous stuff, checked the size using the one inch square, set the pieces on the page and cut; the pieces are much larger than the paper pattern (which I also checked for scale!) HELP! has any one else cut this on a Cricut?
Do you have a video on how you press your bags when completed? They are beautiful!
Yes please… a video of pressing the bag would be fantastic ❤
I do not have a video at this time, but it will be something I will consider in the future! In the pattern for the Rosie, I give you a few tips to successfully press that style as I know it's a little difficult.
I love the fabrics you used in the original pattern. Could I please find out what their called and where you purchased them
what was the foam number that you used?
Your designs and tutorials are outstanding! What is your trick for fusing foam? I have never had trouble fusing any other product. Thank you!
Thank you!!
A heat press and heavily spritzing the foam is my trick. It should be vinyl RS down and foam on top. Spritz the foam heavily once placed, top with Teflon sheet, and press for 10sec at a time. Use the highest heat your vinyl can handle (I tend to stick to a wool setting on mine). Repeat until fused, but be sure to let it cool in between spritzing/pressing. Foam is one that I found it truly matters to let it cool because the glue hardens as it cools and it appears as if it isn't fused while it's still hot/warm. The pressure of a heat press is important, but you can still get the same results with an iron. Just takes longer and is less consistent. I hope that helps!
@@knottedthreadsco Thanks for the quick reply! I am going to practice with this and see if I can get it to work. I happen to love the feel of foam, but I never fused it before.
Excellent video and great tips. What stapler are you using? Thank you.
I curious too! That looked like a good one, unusual shape though.
HI I am wondering if this bag can be turned and not Bound , ? I only use cotton no vinyl 🤔
What is your top stitch # on your industrial? Love the way you explained binding. Mine actually looked good following your instructions. Thank you so much!
You're so welcome - so glad to hear that! My topstitch is typically 5-5.5 ☺️
Love this pattern and your tutorial! I really appreciate the "Shannon-isms"/tricks to reduce bulk in the seams. Also, did your cylinder arm come with seam allowance measurements?! I have a thor 1341 and it didn't come with measurements, but I'm trying to find out if I can buy one. Where did you get your machine from? Maybe I can find the part through them :D
Where do you purchase your embellishments for the handbags you make??
All over, really! But mainly Alchemats Materials & Hardware and Thumbs and Thimbles
Can you tell me which stitch length you use on your Juki LS 1341 when you put binding on? They look very short.
And do you use 600D as WPC or a thinner 400D. It is very thick when the bag is finished.
On my 1341: Baste = 6, Attaching the binding = 4, Topstitching the binding = 5. I'm using 600D. It is a firm binding, but that's great for the bag structure. I only use my WPC method for WPC, so it should be 3 layers of binding. :)
@@knottedthreadsco Thank you very much for your quick reply. It's super. Your stitches really just look short and my stitches look much longer with the stitch lengths (which I usually use too). I am using a Pfaff 335. Really an educational video, thank you very much.
Hi! I just bought this pattern & can't wait to sew it up! Do you get your vinyl & cotton printed? Can I ask where? I'd love to have matching vinyl & Interior fabric🙂
Hi! I just buy these ready made from Backstitch Fabrics! :) thank you so much!
Hi, what thickness of foam do you recommend I’m getting ready to cut my sling out finally thanks in advance
I like to use ones that are ~1/4" thick, which for me is Pellon fusible flex foam
Before I buy pattern I have questions. Anyone can input answers. Thank you. Can I use woven fabrics? Heavyweight fabrics such as upholstery fabrics? Has anyone tried doing this in their Domestic Sewing Machines?
I will sewing this pattern on a domestic machine Janome hd9. On outside i chose cactus leather on inside normal Patchwork fabric ✊
can you use waterproof canvas for the body of the bag? instead of vinyl?
You can, but it will be hard to stabilize and I don't recommend making it without stabilizing, so that will take some playing with. I'd also recommend using the clear d-ring anchor option 🙂
How do you fuse interfacing to vinyl? i would think it would melt the vinyl
You just need to do it carefully. Not too high heat or for too long. That's when melting occurs.
I used 3m 77 spray
What size and type needle do you use? What type of thread do you use? Great video! Thankyou!
My thread is in the description and I use a size 16 microtex in my domestic and size 18 in my industrial ☺️
This sling looks awesome!!🎉 I have to ask tho -- those hoops on the wall behind you, are they all cross-stitched?! If so, I applaud you, as I would never have the patience lol!
Lol! They are just fabrics! No cross-stitching at all. But it is something I want to do at some point!
Printing this out rite know amazing
@@knottedthreadsco Ok that's brilliant, I'm gonna have to copy you now lol!!
Do you have any videos on the correct way to fuse foam?
I have the same question!!! Or at least write out how to do it? Is the foam sprayed with an adhesive?
One more question: is this metal zipper (#5) friendly if I remove the teeth on each end?
If you remove the teeth, yes! But keep in mind there is some trimming that happens to the length of the zipper as called for, so you'd just need to be sure you remove any excess teeth before you sew on the bottom gusset ☺️
@@knottedthreadsco ok. Thank you! I was thinking 3/8 (SA) but maybe I should allow more? I’m watching the video as we speak so I can see how much to allow
@@knottedthreadsco oh yes! I cut it exactly 17 inches. I see that you allowed more in order to add the pulls
Will there be a clear version tutorial? I guess considering the written instructions were so clear that this video only gave me like 2 extra bits of insight... so maybe I shouldn't be so intimated by the clear 😂
I may do one eventually! And I’m sure others will, but if I do it, it will be a bit before I get around to it!
Maybe I missed this but did u use foam on the zip panels as well? Or fleece? Sorry if u said it and I just missed it 🤦🏻♀️
No worries! I did say it, but I just used fusible fleece
@@knottedthreadsco thank you! Clearly I haven’t had enough caffeine and am excited to make this! ❤️❤️
All good! To clarify, it was thermolam 🥰
@@knottedthreadscoShannon I like foam as well, do you have a trick to adhering your foam? (Or do you use self adhesive foam). I only have Annie’s sew in foam currently
@@knottedthreadscothat part I did hear and educated myself on what it was 😂 don’t have any so fleece it is 😂
