    Thank you. Beautifully sewn and so detailed.
    Can I suggest you wipe your pinking shears with what I call surgical spirit but you might call rubbing alcohol, followed by a wipe of sewing machine oil, (on a cloth) with a little extra oil where the scissor pivots. Wipe away any excess oil. On some models there’s a screw at the pivot point and you can loosen the blades slightly. I do hope this is useful, I can see yours are very stiff and when they are adjusted they are easier to use and such a useful tool.

    Paper tape A.K.A. paper surgical tape, you can tape your slip pocket to your lining and sew. It comes off easily, you can sew through it but I just pull it off as I come to it. It is very handy when you can't clip or pin. I work with a lot of waterproof canvas and vinyl pinning is never an option and sometimes you can't clip. I love your video and I will be purchasing your Gaia and Mayfield patterns. You are very talented, please keep creating patterns and videos. Thank you.

    I have to first off all say thank you for the much given laughs. Not at you. Hear me out. I was watching this video and the spouse started watching with me. Everything is good until you started sewing. Your finger was so close to the needle and they started freaking out. I busted out laughing and the freaking out just got worse as they continued to watch. Why I didn't it off? I was entertained. I'm not a bad person. We checked their heart rate...108 bpm. I'm stomach hurt so bad from laughing. I'm so buying this pattern. It's great, a different construction and spouse approved (kind of).

    Thank you for such a wonderful tutorial! I have purchased the pattern and I am now assembling my supplies. For my first bag I am using a vinyl that I purchased at a local fabric store. In general do leather edge paints work on vinyl and or silicone fabrics? I’m curious if they adhere well and stay on without cracking overtime. Thank you so much for your help with this question.

    • @knottedthreadsco
      @knottedthreadsco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I believe it really depends more on the quality of the edge paints/application over the textiles themselves :) I have edge painted cork, vinyl, and sileather without any difference in application, but I've only been using it for the last year. So I can't speak to it ageing well otherwise, but the brand shown in the video is one of the best options out there!

    Great bag. I just found you. I love that you use the DX7. I have this machine and love it. May I ask what weight thread you use in the top and your bobbin?

    • @knottedthreadsco
      @knottedthreadsco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sure! And it depends based on what I have in what color. For this one, it was Tex 45 in the top and 35 in the bobbin. All bonded poly. I just found that reducing that bobbin to 35 gave me the tension I needed on both sides without having to crank the machine tension way up. :)

    I just bought this pattern yesterday and was cutting out the patterns. I don't want to give any measurements out but tow of the pattern pieces show how wide and tall they are supposed to be but the pattern themselves are about 1/4" shorter and narrower. What measurement should I used? What it says on the pattern or the actual patterns? Not all patterns show the measurement so I'm not sure if everything is off about 1/4".

    • @knottedthreadsco
      @knottedthreadsco  ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you say which pieces are off? And where they are listed as inaccurate - as in the cut list or on the pattern piece itself? I def don't want measurements listed here, thank you, but if you printed the pieces off at 100% from Adobe, they are all the correct size.

    • @asheryl1966
      @asheryl1966 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@knottedthreadsco K and J have measurements on them that are narrower than the actual pattern. I did print them out at 100%. The 1" square is exactly 1" so everything should have printed out at the right size. I printed out pattern pieces 01. I'm not sure what pieces A41 are but those were even narrower .

    • @knottedthreadsco
      @knottedthreadsco  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@asheryl1966 I just printed out the file again and everything measured perfectly as stated on the pieces and in the pattern. I also sent this exact file to a template shop over the last few months and they were able to create templates accurately using the files provided - which I did verify the sizing afterward. I would double check your printer again. On the Gaia, the 1" box border line was "anchored" to the mid point of that 1" line. It was something I changed afterward in later patterns (that border is anchored to the inside now so that no part of the line reaches outside of that 1" box) So if you are using a clear acrylic ruler, and your 1" is fitting perfectly inside that box, that means your pattern printed out smaller than it was supposed to. I know that some printers have issues and need to have things printed at 101% or something like that, but I have not had that experience personally to offer further assistance, unfortunately. I also haven't had this feedback at all about the measurements not matching the pieces. The grid on a clear acrylic ruler should have its lines perfectly centered in the border of the 1" box. Sorry for the confusion and I hope you are able to figure it out. Feel free to email me at knottedthreadsco@gmail.com if you need any further help

    • @asheryl1966
      @asheryl1966 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@knottedthreadsco I think the 1" box was measuring correctly so I don't know why the pattern wouldn't print at 100%. In any event, I decided to see what would happen if I opened the pattern using Google Chrome and printed it from there and it printed out the correct size so I'm good.

      Hi! Thank you! I appreciate your concern, but I am very careful while using the staples and have used this method dozens of times without issue. And I do believe my insides are still pretty with how I have been doing it. 🙃 Office clamps cause my hands to cramp and damage my machines, so I prefer wonderclips when I need them. You are welcome to omit the stapling to your own preference. 🙂

  • @irisdown9758
    @irisdown9758 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just cannot see the advantage or reason to bind the top instead of seaming right sides together, turning and top stitching. Binding always looks so easy but it isn’t. The first seam has to be accurate to turn over the same amount of binding tape. Sewing it down from the inside is insanely difficult. In order to catch the seam it is nigh impossible to get straight stitching which will show in the right side of the bag. Far too messy and time consuming with no guarantee of good results.

    • @knottedthreadsco
      @knottedthreadsco  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The way I instruct the sewist to do it isn't as involved as you imagine it is, or sewn like typical binding.
      It's a stylistic choice and part of my design, which I'm actually quite happy about. You're welcome to your own opinion, but it seems like an uninformed one, as if you were to watch that section of the video, you'd see how my method differs from traditional binding. I've actually heard quite a bit of positive feedback about the method and results.
      The great thing, though, is that if you don't like the design, you're welcome to not buy it or sew it. There are other bag patterns out there that will suit your preferences. And just because you don't see how it's possible doesn't mean it isn't. Maybe it means my pattern would be beneficial to you for the knowledge alone. 🙃
