    The problem is, unless you have the coin in hand, these issues would be hard to detect. Most online photos of coins just don't show the level of detail that is required to really see what is going on. Scary stuff.

    Great Information! 👍 I appreciate seeing real and counterfeit coins together and up close. I wish PCGS or NGC would offer in depth online classes on counterfeit detection. I would certainly pay to access quality coin grading and counterfeit classes. Thanks ! 😀👍

    Without the luxury of having originals to compare to the counterfeits, this video excels in highlighting bumps, lumps, and granularity on fake coins in near-uncirculated condition. Common sense would suggest smooth, unimpaired field surfaces and crisp lettering and relief detail on originals. Thanks for this video!

    I bought (2) $5.00 liberty head eagle gold coins. I got them both tested at two different Local coin shops with various Sigma Metalytics. One passed every time and the other failed every time. The one that failed was smoother and had a slightly light yellow color. Learned my lesson.

    Good vid. Did you test the fakes to see if they were gold? Were these key or semi-key dates?

    • @TheCoinGeek
      @TheCoinGeek  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On my electric tester they tested 14k, which is low for many ... except for pot metal, then 14k would be high....but a lot of counterfeits we've seen are closer to 18k.

    • @Car1Sagan
      @Car1Sagan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheCoinGeek well at least 18K is something. But 18K solid? The Pre33's I guess are between 21-22K?

    I agree, I only trust new coins that have the security features. Sad the counterfeiters ruined it. I don't like rounds either, they are just legal counterfeits to me.

    The $10 almost looks like a brass coin. Color is off on all 3 fakes. Unless the Gold coin is in a high grade slab, I expect to see some wear and/or handling marks.

    Do some of the fakes avoid the magnet test even with a 300+lb magnet? Never heard of one being able to fool such an easy counterfeit measure.

      A lot of the fakes are real gold. I had a fake 1 dollar 1850 coin was pure gold but a fake.. still sold it for gold value though.

    On the fakes you can easily see the "punch" around the edge of the coin... plus the detail is very faint on the fakes

    It makes you wonder when I have the 7 ceremonial genuine 1933 British pennies with markings of the designer on the neck and it is questionable that this is sold for £115,000 at heritage auctions fake coin that does not have any markings on the neck like B M July 28th 2016 sold. when actually 6 was made for the Irish and six were made for the Scottish and for further was made for 4 Chancellors pattern patriotic demonstration and that brings it to total of 16 coins 1933 British pennies made from copper & Brass shining like orange coins not like yellowish golden like sunshine seven ceremonial British 1933 pennies that I have in my possession. You forget that Hitler also was a Chancellor
