    A couple of respectful hints from the cold Canadian north. Always think of keeping your clothing dry, in order to reduce your risk of hypothermia, When you start cutting down poles and branches, and find yourself growing warm, don't take off your wet outer coat and allow your dry inner jacket to become wet also. Take off the outer coat, remove your dry inner one, tuck it away in your pack, and put the wet one back on. That way you will have a dry coat to wear inside your shelter.
    When you are clearing the snow out of your shelter, don't kneel on the snow. Kneel on a few dry pine branches. That way, your pants will also be dry when you crawl into your shelter.
    Also don't use your mittens to clear the snow out of your shelter; instead, make a little broom out of pine twigs and use that to sweep out your shelter. That way, your mittens will also be warm and dry for the night.
    This may seem to be overkill until that night when it drops to forty below zero. In those circumstances, a dry coat, dry pants, and dry mittens may be what save you from hypothermia.
    Thanks for a beautiful video.

    All I could hear was wet snow, sleet, or freezing rain hitting the ground. And I know that those are terrible conditions to be in, yet there is something so relaxing in seeing you enjoying yourself in a primitive environment. When we are miserable and cold and hungry, the fire feels great, the food is gourmet and most of life’s worries are forgotten. I’m envious, and hoping to get out soon myself.

    • @arthurrsaker8893
      @arthurrsaker8893 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@exussr4275 how so? Tell us why. We know that millions of good folk suffered cruelly in the communist "paradise" of the Soviet Union, where the apparatchiks took what little there was for themselves, and everyone else was left to go "fake" themselves, but many people don't like what they see happening around Russia today, and so are prepping in their own small way for having to deal with some of the difficulties you experienced under the Soviets.
      I wonder if your life under that repressive regime has permanently blunted that part of your mind which once would have been filled with positivity, and encouragement to anyone who applies their love of the outdoors to practical survival situation skills and problem solving.
      Negativity and cynicism, and sneering contempt will bring no joy to your life. Lighten up, you are here in the west, where you have chosen to be. Enjoy what we have to offer, we are not perfect, but if find you us and our ways so unbearable, I am sure Mother Russia would rejoice greatly at the return of one of her sons from the shallow artificiality of life in the west.
      Good luck and happiness to you wherever your future leads you, stay safe and remember you are free to enjoy what wilderness we have in your own way, so long as you treat it with respect and do no harm. And you are free to insult us and our ways without any harm coming to you. God bless and be lucky

    Everyone who went through Scouting in the Sixties received intensive and valuable bushcraft and survival training. We were taught to recognize animals by their scat and spoor and how to trap them for food. We went on night compass marches and built 3 rope bridges across mountain streams. We also learned how to safely handle firearms and hit what we were aiming at. My Scout training held me in good stead as an adult backpacking the mountains throughout British Columbia, Canada where I encountered Black and Grizzly bears, Cougars, Wolves, and Elk and Moose in the rut. I always wore wool clothing which outperformed the synthetic materials, learned to use a map and compass, and could build a fire in any condition. I also learned to not scrimp on boots or sleeping bags. Mt step-son went through scouting from 2001 to 2008 where he learned to make sidewalk chalk. Baden-Powell is rolling over in his grave, I'm sure.

Indeed, it may be events such as drowning, fire, earthquake, snowfall, sleeping in forests, remote places, and other natural quarts. Therefore, we must educate children and young people on the way to escape from every predicament, such as sports, swimming, cooking, hunting, heating with wood, and building a house to enter in case of emergency, all of this for the sake of survival. Thank you.

    Finally, a bush crafter that doesn't waste energy over processing fire wood. Native people never cut up wood, they just stuck one end into the fire and kept feeding it in. Still don't get that sparker thing, (Ferro rod) they make a product called a MATCH or a BIC lighter that actually makes fire. LOL

      I saw one video from Japan where this guy was in his very small vehicle and had custom made blackout curtains held in place by magnets. He didn’t realize that he portrayed himself as being in the middle of the night trying to stay warm when in fact one of the black out curtains was letting in daylight. There’s a lot more but it’s sufficient to say eventually they screw up. Thanks for your effort it was a good video.

That feeling when you get to sit in front of the fire, start warming up, and just embrace the natural environment surrounding you, and the silence it provides. It shuts up negativity. You sure can get a lot of beauty with just a little bit of simple gear. Great video.
