Great trip over the river mate, you could have hung about on the railway a bit more to Thonburi station but that's what I did. That canal was actually the river before and it winds back round to the river. They dug a channel to give the river a shortcut. Good to see Gary too.
Great video Chai ... Been to BKK on and off for 25+ years and never much got across the river until recently ... Obviously some great things to see over there like Talat Phlu market, etc. ... Jotting down some resto recommendations as well from Gary's videos west of the river for when I'm back in Thailand in a few weeks ... Cheers from (cold) Canada ...
Hi Steve :) nice one! Yeah Gary can be a great help when it come to that side of the river 😁 glad you’re also exploring that side. Hopefully it’s getting not to cold up there for you although I’m sure you’ve got the right clothes for some extreme weather conditions 😜 cheers!
Yo yo! Thanks again 😃 definitely there are so many. That’s what I start loving about Bangkok… all this hidden spots. I’m glad I’m able to do so. Have a beautiful day champ 🏆
Yes the tourists tend to stick to the known areas of the city and there is so much more to see plus economically the opportunity to support different areas that otherwise tourism doesn't reach out to. Well presented Chai with a little bit of imput there from locals and Gary adding to the moment. Cheers champ 🤩
Great video chai. Enjoyed seeing that side of Bangkok. I’m in Bangkok in 4wks. Then traveling north to south. When in Bangkok at the beginning I have a tour booked with @hiddenBangkok and in January a meet up with Gary. @theroamingcook We can’t wait. Thanks for sharing this. All the best Del & Leigh.
Hi Del and Leigh 😃 that’s such a nice time to look forward to! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed this video. Have a beautiful few weeks before you’re coming down to Thailand 🙏🏼 cheers!
Wowww- thanks for sharing this part of Bangkok with us Chai! It’s amazing how different this part can be compared to the more commercialized part of Bangkok like Sukhumvit or Asoke….Also, gotta love Gary- the Roaming Cook! It’s great to see you both together in this video 😊
Americano. Name comes from ww2. Italian baristas serving the US soldiers found the what we know as long black too strong so Watered down the espresso. So they just labelled the drink an Americano. Iced Americano is a SEA thing.
Ohm, you're my guy next time i come to the city of angels. I always have that exact feeling that it's a tourist trap of a city when i'm there. Hopefully it can be a much better experience with someone who can take me to some off the beaten paths. Thank you Chai for introducing him. By the way, i loved the entrance to that cafe. That's what Thailand is about for us westerners. Expect the unexpected, a little sense of adventure in every corner... 😊 Cheers!
Perfect Göker! Alway glad to see you’re excitement and how I can help a little this way. Ohm is a real nice gent and hopefully we get to see more of him one day soon again 🤩 haha cheers mate
Hi Shery! Thanks for your compliment 😁 cool! We’re planning to visit Malaysia in January/February 😃 it’s gonna be a nice little trip coming up soon I think. Thanks for watching
Thonburi might be only a little part (by time) of Siam history but this brief period of time made a very big change for Thai or Siam. If no King of Thonbuburi (a former soldier of Ayuthaya) that time there would be no the following Kings and Bangkok nowadays.
MEKAR Cafe at night has gorgeous view and their foods and cocktails are good too. They have live music on the rooftop every Fri to Sunday evening. Been there several times already to chill out with some beers 🍺😍
Loved this one. I'm a big fan of that side of the river of Bangkok. Great to see your meet ups with Gary too. And as far as the Americano thing goes. From what I know, at least in the U.S., an Americano is espresso with hot water, as opposed to a regular drip-style or instant coffee. Not sure if it's the same in Thailand tho, I think they just use Americano to mean black coffee haha.
Thanks for that nice piece of input Will! Good to know you’re still watching 😃 this part of Bangkok is totally new for me so I’d love to explore it more soon. What I read from other comments you’re spot on. I love the taste of a good espresso myself but it’s always last me two sips 😝 thanks champ 🏆
Bangkok Noi Canal used to be part of the Chao Phraya River before it was cut to create a new shortcut along Siriraj. Until making this part just a canal
As far as I know (or remember), nobody in my family back in the States dresses up their coffee. Black coffee, that's the only way I drink it. Only when black is not offered will I occasionally have cream (?) and sugar in it. Most Thais think that straight black coffee is too bitter.
Aaha! That must be why. I’ve just read as well that it comes from ww2 where the Americans got served espresso by the Italians but ask to water it down a bit. I love it black to but in Europe it’s very normal to drink it with milk and sugar 😁 thanks champ 🏆
That's the drip espresso with water . Americans are highly caffeinated on coffee. The story goes that American GI'S situated in Italy during WW2 couldn't handle the increased bitterness of Italian espresso. So, in order to have a coffee like their drip coffee back home, they started watering down their espresso. 😅 I can say I've had my fair share of really good Americano in thailand, however I just bring my coffee pot wherever I go with doi Chang, premium or not!
Ep 7 of bkk series?? I missed it in the tittle mate 🤫 Anyhow i.loved that little secret cafe spot inside that building, great find, thanks bkkpat 🙏 And happy to see Gary again, your relationship is growing 🤭 Anyhow, food, chaitalks = good times 😊 Ow and a quiky, did you had a sponsor deal with the Dutch brew mate? Sippin on that big bottle of Heineken 🤣🤣🤣 and what about the place where Gary got it, no way we could have known to buy a beer there and for that price, it is more cheap then over here 💪 And thanks for a new ep of bkk mate 🙏 And as always, C Ya in the next one, tomorrow, cheers 🙌🍻
I'm not American (I'm Thai), but I can tell you that an Americano is an espresso diluted with hot water! (Probably because the US Americans can't handle the bitterness 😆)
I am thai. Thank you, it's not far from my house. But just realized there is a place like this from your channel. It's called hot Americano because Thailand has Iced Americano
An Americano is espresso with water and is not the same as "coffee" in America. That is usually brewed or dripped, has a different roast and character. I've never heard of a "hot" Americano, does that mean there is a "cold" Americano? As beer with ice is popular in Thailand, maybe it's an iced Americano?

I don't know that you have ever been or heard of Kudi Chin community. It's an area south of Wat Arun. This community has 4 cultures (Thai Chinese Portugese and Muslim) and 3 religions (Buddhism, Christainity, and Islam) living together. To get there, take MRT to Sanamchai station, follow the sign to rachinee pier and walk across a bridge to Atsadang pier on your left and take a boat ferry to Wat Kallayanamit. You can explore toward south thru the coummunity to Wat Prayurawong which has a big white Chedi, you can get inside the chedi to see its very cool wooden structure and then cross the Momorial bridge back to the East side. th-cam.com/video/gyINSWlsOU4/w-d-xo.html
