  • I bought this Snapper mower for $1000 in March 2015. Even after extensive warranty work at the end of last season, the mower still has the same problems. The bagging system is a faulty design so I am asking Snapper to do the right thing and buy it back from me.
Update May 2016: Thanks to this video (as well as several months of persistence, posts on their FB page, etc.), Snapper has refunded 100% of my money. What I can't get back is all of the time I will never get back because of the design flaws of this mower, hauling it to the dealer for repairs, dealing with Snapper customer no-service, and finally making this video as a last resort. Do yourself a favor and buy any brand other than Snapper.
Update July 2016: Snapper refunded me in full a couple months ago. I used my old Honda a few more times, but one of the mounting tabs for the sheet metal guides on the body finally broke (rust) which caught all of the sheet metal in the blade. The mower still works, but bagging is less efficient without the extra sheet metal - and it really isn't worth my time to remove the engine and weld a new bracket on and then buy all of the sheet metal guide pieces new. It is now my back up machine. I went and bought a Honda HRX for $780 - almost $300 less than I paid for the Snapper. It has a lifetime warranty on he deck (it's made of plastic - they call it Nextite) so I should never have a rust issue again (the only shortcoming of the old Honda). It also has a blade brake - something all other $800-$1000 push mowers have EXCEPT the Snapper) and the bag/mulch blend door is a nice feature allowing me to return some clippings back to the lawn for the nutrients.
One final comment: I realize Snapper used to make great mowers - mowers that last 20+ years. That is why I bought one. My Honda HRR was great, but I wanted to upgrade to something that would last 15-20 years, which made the $1060 price tag worth it to me. But as I document in the video 1) the mower was obviously not test run from the factory (which Honda does with their mowers) -because if it was, the hard start/choke problem would have been noticed immediately. 2) The grass entering the bag at an angle and not parallel to the bag is a poor design. 3) It takes 2 1/2 to 3 hours to mow my lawn (it is large - I choose to use a push mower for the exercise)... my guess is most commercial guys are using their mowers 15-20 minutes at a time for trim work and don't put it under the same stress.
But, feel free to throw your money away out of habit and brand loyalty - I for one will be much more careful about equipment purchases in the future.
