    A much more evolved video from the last Glengoyne distillery and a great video at that. You can't help but smile as Gordon comes through that door. His face is just ecstatic, cheers Ben

    Thoroughly enjoyable video and you've given me an idea for next time I am up in Scotland. That looked a good selection in the gift shop.

      Thanks Bill, really enjoyed putting this one together! It's an excellent experience and you're right - the range in the gift shop is really good, with a number of distillery exclusives too 😁

    Wow very cool video, and mouthwatering tastings you had (ok except the plastic too tiny glasses-not your fault) I'm now even more in the mood to visit the distillery !!! I hope this year...Slainthe, Ben, and well done !

      @WhiskyGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, I was too surprised at being given the samples to think about the plastic mini-cups! It's an excellent distillery to visit, have you seen the different experiences they offer? I would love to do the Masterclass at some point and really put my nose/palate to the test! 🥃👌

      Sure @@WhiskyGeek not seen all as my small experience last year tells me distilleries can change name & things about a tour only less than a few months in advance...so will wait to be ready to go to explore further the tour's page in their website but thanks for the tip

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah yeah that makes sense. Although the thought of them stopping doing the Masterclass before I get chance to try it does worry me!

    I'm going to be there some time around May this year. Very excited after watching this video. My last visit was in 2016 and I only stumbled upon the destillery while doing the West Highland Way. Unfortunately they didn't have any tours available at the time but I still tasted the twelve and the eighteen at the time. I was told back then to keep a look out for the apoerently infamous seventeen which had been discontinued at the time but was told to be a superb drop. Never saw a bottle of it anywhere though.
    Might leave with a destillery bottling this year.
    Cheers mate, great video!

      Yeah I've seen the 17 pop up on auctions a few times - steep asking price though! I'd be surprised if it was actually better than a comparably priced current expression. The 12 year old is one of my favourite value for money drams 👍
      I'd definitely recommend trying the Teapot Dram and Distillery Cask when you get there - both great (but I am a fan of cask strength!)
      Thanks Tim 🥃👌

      @@WhiskyGeek you're probably right. I'm currently working on my second half of the twenty-one which I am very much appreciating. I'll definitely take your advice and try some new expressions once I get there. I also am a sucker for cask strength (personally I'm very much into heavily peated stuff)
      Anyways keep the great content going, love everything you've uploaded so far 👍

      Excellent, well worth calling in! I really enjoy doing the "experiences" if you get chance at a couple of the distilleries. The No.1 Warehouse sounds great if you enjoy cask strengths and Malt Master gives a chance to combine & tailor your own single malt. The ones I've done at other distilleries have been very memorable! 🥃👍

    That looked like a lot of fun. Glengoyne is becoming on of my favorites. Had the 12 15 18 so far with a 21 that I have not opened yet. Cheers

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're in for a treat with that 21. I've found more to it each time I've had a dram - I should grab a bottle to work through at some point! You planning on working up to the 25 year old after that one? 😉🥃

    • @DonnerPassWhisky
      @DonnerPassWhisky 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@WhiskyGeek Yes someday, I've heard it's on another level but at a bit over double what I can get the 21 for it may be a while. Craigellachie 23 is the other way to expensive bottle that I lust for 🤣🤣 Cheers

      @WhiskyGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the 25 year old was my first taste of Glengoyne, maybe that's why I'm such a fan! I've had a couple of samples of it but think a full bottle is out of my reach. Amazing whisky if you can get your hands on it 👌🥃

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jump on the 15 year old if you get chance as they're discontinuing it due to running out of the aged stock!
      I love the 12 year old, incredible bang for buck. I need to spend more time with the Cask Strength to uncover some of the depths & try it at different strengths, but I've really enjoyed that one each time I've tried it too 😁

    Great video with plenty of facts about the distillery, I have bottles of the 12, 21, 25 and have just ordered the legacy, there’s just something special about glengoynes whisky, the 30 and tea pots are defo on my wish list 😯👍 🥃

    Makes me wanna go there myself, great video! How much was the teapot dram priced at?

  • @DuncanHarmsworth
    @DuncanHarmsworth 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow! What an experience! One Question: Was the 30 year old everything you had hoped it would be? I have the 18, Batch 4,5,6 of the CS, the 2 travel retails (the Cuartillo & the Balbaina) and the 21 year, but I can only imagine....

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wasn't given much warning so didn't have time to gather any hopes haha! It was honestly excellent. I wish I had a clean palate going into it so that I could have appreciated every little nuance, but even after sipping a couple of cask strengths the 30 YO delivered an incredibly rich and balanced profile with plenty of subtleties to explore! Makes you wonder how much more it would have to give if you had a full dram and gave it the proper time.
      I almost picked up the travel retails - what do you make of them? Seems to be mixed opinions. I ended up with some independently bottled Glengoyne's instead I think 😉👌

    • @DuncanHarmsworth
      @DuncanHarmsworth 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WhiskyGeek Buy the two travel retails if you have extra quid, otherwise, stick to the CS or distillery exclusives. They were good examples of the different cask types, but I would trade the 1 litre bottles for other more interesting versions of Glengoyne. Take my opinion for what its worth, but if you have tasted the Glengoyne 18, 21, or I imagine 30 would taste like, these 2 whiskies might seem watery or anemic by comparison. The bright side was they were not expensive, but that should have been my first clue not to expect much. Cheers! 🥃

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah fair enough, I guess I've got a fair few Glengoyne's to keep me going for the time being 😉
      The self-fill bourbon cask and sherry puncheon should serve me as pretty good examples of cask types!

  • @WhiskyJason1

    WOW 30y Glengoyne but 700 pounds just too expensive

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it is pricey - a full bottle is out of my reach but there's plenty out there with hefty disposable income who I'm sure will appreciate it! They do a 28 YO PX for the travel market too which looks incredibly dark 🥃👍

    • @haydnball990
      @haydnball990 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WhiskyGeek I tried the 28 at Heathrow and was disappointed given its 420 pound price tag. The sample saved me from an expensive mistake. Trying to decide between the 25 and 30. Price is a big jump (over double for the 30) so not sure I can justify the 30. I have the Teapot Dram No6 waiting at my parents home in the UK.

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@haydnball990 Yeah that is a pretty steep price jump. If it's for sipping and enjoying then I'd be tempted by 2 of the 25 year olds and sharing them with friends! The 30 year old was undeniably special, but so is the 25 year old 👌🥃
      Also love the teapot dram - and no guilt sipping and enjoying that one!

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I reckon it was worth it at the old price point but I hear the price has been hiked to ~£125? Puts it out of my consideration unfortunately.
      Then if you compare the old price point to their cask strength expression and it's clear which one is good value 😜
