    This is mighty overblown. Let us not forget when these rules were initially due to come into effect. Teams already had started on them, albeit in a very small way. Basic philosophy is no doubt set since 2020 or earlier.

      I absolutely agree. I think most, if not all, teams have really been focused on the new regs since early to mid 2020. That's one of the reasons that teams were required to use carry-overs as there were complaints from all teams that they'd already started developing for the new regs originally set to begin at the start of 2021 and millions had already been spent on the new designs. They couldn't possibly be able to start 2021 with underdeveloped cars so they had to carry-overs the 2019 machines, albeit with some minor changes.

      Newey cannot do on his own. Only when Honda kicked in, RB was competitive. Given 2021. performance, you can't really say that Mercedes has "worse" aero. Especially now when they could start over and move away (maybe) from low rake. And on engine, Lewis and Valtteri spent 11 engines while Max and Sergio 8 (like everyone else), so they played with more aggressive ECU mapping, but that does not mean Honda cannot do the same.

    The engine development is essentially carried over from the previous regulations far as I understand. In my opinion the next regulation advancement should be to reduce some weight from the power-trains, possibly with a marginal performance hit, but in order to make the cars slightly smaller and lighter. Due to the engines being similar, we should expect the engine situation from 21 to carry over into 22 barring major engine developments in the off season. I don't think it's impossible that a midfield team advances to be a top team. I do think because of the engines and that these cars are an evolution more that a total redesign, the front runner paradigm is likely to still be there. Can't wait to see the reveals of these 22 cars, love that its early in the aero development so we will see a lot of different concepts more than likely

    For 2017 Merc didn’t really stay on top. Ferrari caught them aerodynamically from a winless 2016, but the superior Merc engine (and maybe Hamilton) ultimately made the difference. Given how Ferrari went from sixth to third by mostly tweaking aero last year, I think the reds can challenge Merc and Red Bull. The team works and the system works. Hopefully the Maranello horses run faster this year so we can have a proper three-way fight. Maybe McLaren can join too, but I’m not sure.Even with the mighty Merc engine last year they weren’t that impressive already coming from third in 2020. Monza and Sochi being exemptions. I think they will go in 2022 on the back foot I suspect Ferrari Mercedes and possibly even McLaren have done more development with their 2022 cars than Red Bull.
      Who knows this is merely speculation at least this time Red Bull has a stronger engine going into these new regulations although still weaker than Mercedes. I think they've done a 2013 again they spent so much time and effort developing their championship contender car that they haven't done anywhere near what the rivals have done for the new regulations. That and Mercedes has adapted better to rule changes than Red Bull as seen in 2014 and 2017. After the summer break Merc had multiple updates at several races as the engineer told in their vids. Toto said they wouldnt but that was fake, as his own collegue a day later told 😁 And they were engine testing by giving Valtteri new engines and let him race on a very high setting to see what damage it would bring. Finally Lewis got his engine in Brazil. Merc also had the new frontwing in the last 3 races, especially flown in, those were made to no get damage, new type then before. Hardly any damage in Jeddah with crash with Max. The rearwing was in Brazil made from a flexing material, that was new as well. Thats what Max was testing with his fingers. So, all in all Merc has definately been upgrading in 2nd part of 2021. Just like RB did.

    • @halofreak1990
      @halofreak1990 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@zedrhyx1788 it's actually the opposite, since with the tighter regulations, you'll have to be smarter to find new gains. Using the airflow to simulate the physical skirts of the initial ground-effect cars, for example, is an innovation that might not have happened had the skirts not been banned. The V6 turbo engines are the most efficient combustion engines on the planet. Again, the regulations brought this into existence. I would not be surprised if it turns out that, in absolute numbers, the amount of new innovative solutions brought into F1 to solve (regulatory) issues is the same or even larger than before the rules were tightened up.

Think something clever regarding ground effects which they mostly haven't been involved with up until now. Is there some mid-ranking aerodynamicist at McLaren for instance who wrote his dissertation on ground effects while at university? Maybe he knows more about it that anyone else in the paddock giving McLaren a huge advantage, and with the wind tunnel use being restricted that advantage will be compounded because they don't need so many hours tuning their ground effects allowing them to focus on other aero issues?

It's easy to stay on top when you have the money to throw around but when you're forced to scrimp and save, something loses out eventually. Hass, and Williams especially have been running on budgets lower than 2021s cap and the cap is set to get lower as the years go by. So, I'm way more interested in how these teams will go. Rule changes usually alter the balance of power between the 'big' teams, without throwing teams from the back to the front, and vice versa.
      The thing to remember about the budget cap, is that it is not about to equalize spending. The small teams will struggle to meet it, while the larger teams will be finding ways to hide spending through 'creative accountancy', and exploiting the fact that they are part of much larger organisations

So Mercedes are going into this knowing how to get a lot of downforce from the floor and with a low rake, Red Bull have always run a high rake which for these regulations isn't the optimum strategy.

    • @gouthamb884
      @gouthamb884 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Npc14 ur statement merc having superior floor is not actually correct. High rake or low rake both concepts are there to produce under body downforce. The area under the floor is crucial to generate the downforce. The more the area the more the air and more the downforce. Merc adopted a low rake and long wheel base (longer wheelbase so longer floor to increase the area under). Redbull opted (high rake and shorter wheelbase so more area through high rake). The barge boards front wing are all there to generate vortex to seal the sides of the floor so the air doesn't escape through the sides. The air must exit through the diffuser to make the most out of it. So interms of aero both teams are the same. This is why low rake cars were affected in 2021, reducing the width of the floor meant reduced area, this din affect the redbull much because the area is through rake and not floor length.
      And the shorter wheel base means the front and rear of the car is much closer to the center so during corners the loads are easily managed. In merc the front and rear of the car is much farther than the center so more load during turing. So the redbull were good in corners.

    • @gouthamb884
      @gouthamb884 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@g_webb21 like i explained in the other comment the downforce is not about the rake but about the area. In 2022 ventury tunnels are there to create the area they exactly do the same as a 2021 car get the air through the tunnels and out through a larger diffuser swept up. So air rushed in through a low point and exits through a high point creating pressure difference for sucking the car to the ground. In a way the high rake cars make a better use of this technique u can see the front end more close to the ground and rear end higher from the ground compared to low rake. Squeezing the air from the front through a large area in the diffuser.

    Ever since Red Bull has taken engine matters basically into their own hands they will never allow for it to slip anymore, which was the case when they were Renault clients. This makes them together with Mercedes the only teams that have all the right ingredients in place atm: Plenty of resources, an efficient organization and management structure, winning spirit culture, top-level facilities, outstanding car, and engine design teams and the best people in the business attracted to them. The other teams are getting there but still lacking in one or a few areas atm.
    So there's no reason to believe Red Bull and Mercedes won't end up on top in 2022. There might be a surprise team or two at the beginning of the season but Mercedes and Red Bull will develop the hell out of their cars over the season, which they can do like no other to overcome any deficits.

    Quite honestly, the shambles that was the management of 2021 season by Masi and the FiA makes 2022 the least anticipated season for me. The likelihood being that it's the first time I don't watch.
    Unless this "investigation" is genuinely honest and far reaching, then the longer they drag it out the more suspicious I and others like me become. I have zero faith that anything significant will happen and as such they have a '21 title that presumably Hamilton wouldn't accept if offered to him and that a great many fans will never accept is legitimately Verstappen's.
