      Wait till you feel a set of opsal aluminums. Combine them with the Velcro lowers and you’ll think you got another set of gaffs. You don’t need a pad where your feet won’t contact. There isn’t any give or break in with the opsals just a 1” piece of foam rubber. Leather pads are made by satin. I have broke a brand new set in, in 3 climbs they were back to junk. Still have bone indentions on my shins from junk pads. Opsal baby! Trust me. Opsal uppers and Velcro lowers. Trust me.

    You should try the Buckingham aluminum pads. Those things are thick.

    The gecko 🦎 steel version tour my tendons on my knee ..bad in ten minutes of wearing still haven't healed.im short 5ft6 or 7 and the distance from bottom of knee to bottom foot on me is 12 3/4 inches ..bought the talons hopeing they work if not ordering the old klein hydro cool pads set and spikes with Angeled inserts

    Good video showing the progression, I have a set of those very first Buckinghams you showed hanging on the wall.
    Clint and I are on the gecko steels but that because I found them to be the best "value" for my $.
    Is that a "knee/shin" ascender I seen on your current spurs???

    Lower velcro strap is a game changer bro. The buckingham ones without the buckle. Best $60 spent. U will not regret it

      He’s right. Velcro lowers and opsal pads will transform a pair of gaffs. Every pad is junk especially leather except for the aluminum opsal pads. You just reglue in the foam rubber when you wear that part out. Also the Velcro eliminates the pick a hole. I have pulled slip on boots off with the old pick a hole and if too tight omg your metatarsal will be screaming if it’s not numb from over tightening. No more with velcro. They’re PERFECT. I got a set of bashlin pole gaffs and Klein “training” or European (offset spike) I just pull the strap and swap the pads then the Velcro lowers have a hardened ring like a keychain you just gap it over the keeper and spin it around. I can swap gaffs out real fast. Great for going from pine to sycamore. If you’ve got a good pair of boots or a shank you can stand in them all day with no discomfort or fatigue. Can’t even tell they’re on your feet with the combo.

    Thank you for this reference this could be helpful to choose which spikes is best for us. Like me here in the Philippines we don't have that kind of quality mostly was made in China. There is a joke which say God created the heaven and earth the rest was made in China lol😆.
    Anyway oneday I could buy that kind of spikes for me. Thank for this video it really helps😊👍

      I think I’m the only one that had a bad experience with those. They dug into my leg and we’re very painful after 2 hrs. Lucky me I was using them because a friend wanted me to try them

    What do you think of the angle change of the pad ! Offsets the pressure they say! I switched to these 4 yrs ago, still not sure the Difference, of the 30 degree angle

    • @StihlChainsaws
      @StihlChainsaws  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have bad knees so the angle really helps me. I also use pole gaffs because they are much easier on the knees too

    Bucks don’t offset enough for me and I kick my ankle bone a lot. I despise them. They’re too lazy to bend (offset) the gaff around my ankle bone so I don’t need them. Ever.
    Opsal pads and Velcro lowers are by far the best I’ve ever stood in except for an old old pair of Distels I used one time. They had the perfect offset and stirrup angle.
    And I’ve got a set of bashlins now but with a pole spike… but I’m in pine land. I’ve seen their tree spikes and there ain’t no way I’d ever use them. They look like they’d be red ruM on my knees and feet!
    I mostly run a set of Kleins with opsal uppers and Velcro lowers and swap them to my bashlins when the bark is thin.
    Distels are the new geckos. Minus the fiberglass pad. I’ve had 2 offers now for free geckos but the replacement pads almost cost as much as a new set so I couldn’t even take them. Klein and Bashlin ftw
