The internal triangles could also be very easily cut on a CNC router if you have access to one. You could use a 1/4" cutter and slightly dogbone the corner to make sure the framing fits the way you indicate. Very nice video.

Yup, dog bones are good, sometimes I also round the back edge of the 1x vertical with a round over bit to make it fit and be nice on the hands.

No it only needs to go through the bottom layer of plywood plus maybe an inch
