Sweetness and Light, I remember that saying! I think it was used more by my older Sister’s age group and by those lucky ppl who got to be at Woodstock (the original), than it was for me and my peers. I think my Sister was the first person to ever tell me that. 🥰 “Don’t ever trust anybody over 30!” May have been around the time of tanned women/girls wearing white lipstick. An ex of mine, 13 years older, was actually lucky enough to be in SF, CA, in the Haight/Ashbury, during the Summer of Love. The time of the Flower 🌺 Children.
As a little one, an adult once asked me the usual question. What do ya wanna be when, etc, etc. You know the drill. My answer, without any hesitation at all, “A Hippy.” Lol 😂!! I must’ve been such a joy to my folks.

As someone quickly becoming old (I'm 54) I realize there are so many more reasons old people are "cranky." Chronic pain, frustration, inability to do basic tasks easily, fear, having knowledge no one will listen too, knowing life is all downhill from here, people treating you like an imbecile or child - patronizing you, all the friends in your age group suffering and complaining or dying - the list goes on and on.

I realize more and more every day how much I am like him, not just looks, he gave such good advice I use every day, the last two years of his life I would visit him two or three times a week. I would bring him food (I'm a chef so fresh lasagna, fried chicken, soup from scratch, pineapple upside down cake, German chocolate cake etc.)I would also bring him smokes and a couple beers . I loved just talking to him. He was one of my favorite people and I told him that when I was about to leave along with I love you. I was such a daddies girl. I feel blessed to have had those last two years of memories with him.Im in my forties by the way. Have a wonderful weekend and new year.

No need to clean up the mailbox of junk mail: they don't offer us anything anymore. Who needs a clock ? not me. Can't sleep ? so what, no time to lose. My house and car are paid for. Thank god for dentistry , I still have all my teeth holding precariously. Taste buds are fading away ? well, there's IPA beer with a lot of Hops. Can't remember something ? so what, no babies to forget in a hot car. Your young neighbours got 2 babies in a row and are happy about it ? you just smile thinking about what's coming up later on. Be happy ! getting old is not that bad.

And I did the same thing after turning 50. Sometimes, it can lead to feeling lonely, but mostly it feels good. And I’m proud of myself for saying it like it is, man.
I don’t, so much, see that as anger. For me, its a new way to take care of myself. Its almost like standing up for myself for the first time,...ever. I’ve stood up for me, before. Especially in my early 20s. It was good for me, then. And its gotten better, since.
I’ve always been kind of a Loner. Bothers me some. A lot, sometimes. But, at almost 60 years old, and with all that’s going on in the World politically, and the Climate Crisis (or Emergency) already here,...Who TH knows?? Its not so bad getting older, C. But finding a safe place to be, might be quite difficult once you get there. Good luck 🍀, Carina.

My in-laws hoarded moldy Christmas decorations, diesel-soaked stacks of 25-lb. bags of sugar, blasting caps, rifles and handguns, bullets, gunpowder, shell casings, flour from the 1800's with dead weevils, urine-soaked dog beds, cat hair covered blankets, brown-stained underwear, jeans, and muumuus (from all the years of claiming laundry should only be done once every 6 months and baths/showers should only be taken once every year or two), and leaky car batteries. They smelled like a combination of urine, feces, rotten cantaloupe, and spoiled milk. They were both cranky, but now one is cranky and the other is dead.
On the other hand, my grandparents smelled like fresh beets, cornfields, and strawberries. In our family, we always blamed our grandparents wrinkles on the fact that they were nearly always happy and smiling - in part because they ate such a good diet (hence the smell they had), and in part because us younger members of the family enjoyed visiting more often, which in turn was because my grandparents were pleasant to be around and because they always made dinner out of whatever we picked from the garden.
I'm not saying anyone should be vegan, or even that my grandparents were vegan. They did, however, avoid TV dinners, candy, chips, excessive sugar, excessive salt, excessive grease, and cheap, fatty cuts of meat. They stuck to lean meats with the fat trimmed and fresh-picked veggies and fruits. It really is all about those early life choices. If you feel the need to hoard, hoard useful things and things that smell good, especially plants.

My grandma has always smelled really good. She smells like the detergent that she washes her and my grandpas clothes in. And as a kid I always remember her smelling like night cream because after a bath she puts it on. Hugging her is nice because her house coats are soft and she always smells clean, like soap. Idk there’s something about smelling clean without putting perfume on. I hate perfume (as a 21 yo female millennial). It’s too strong to me. And my grandpa always smells like aftershave which smells good but kinda strong. Her house is neat as a pin and she keeps it so clean you can literally eat off the floors. She won’t dust with something like a swiffer but uses soap and water and the same goes for windex, she washes her windows and blinds with soap and water. She also takes her curtains down several times a year and washes and irons them. She irons every piece of clothing she or my grandpa wear. She also changes their bed sheets (which are also ironed) more than once a week and they always smell sooooo good. She vacuums and mops daily as well as dusts. There’s never a dish in her sink and she’s always always always cooking something. She 76 and was born on 9-11-1941 which was almost exactly 3 months before the US got dragged into WWII. She’s definitely a 60’s typical housewife. Talking about what my grandpa does (at 83! Yes 83!) would take forever because he still gardens, trims shrubs, mows the yard, shovels snow etc etc etc etc etc. He has a brother who is 93 (they are two of eight kids). Anyways my grandparents aren’t typical “old people” and I love them so much.

I have a true story about Art Linkletter. I worked in a large business park in San Ramon, California. 7000 employees worked in this sleek huge building owned by AT&T. One day this limo pulls up at the front entrance and Art Linkletter steps out. He stomps into the building and DEMANDS to see top management and to be given a tour of the facility. I can only assume that he invested in AT&T Stock and thought he owned the place. Well, this was a building for worker ants, not the King or Queen. All the top brass were in a highrise in downtown San Francisco, not out in the sticks with us. So the receptionist didn't have a clue who to reach. Art became very impatient and began yelling at the poor entrance level (a pun?) receptionist. A middle management guy passing by from the cafeteria intervened and said he would take Art on a tour, but Art was in full fury. No middle management guy was good enough for the great Art Linkletter! He stomped out of the building in a rage and drove away, promising to call the CEO of AT&T and make heads roll. So much for nice guy Art Linkletter. One thing not mentioned in this video is that a sadly large number of older people get dementia. I think Art's absurd actions could be related to this.

Now, all of your life experiences contribute to that I suppose, not to mention how well your health holds up. AND, all the bad habits you could get away with in youth. i.e. smoking, drinking, drugs, wild sex, not sleeping or eating well! Although I know so many did everything ‘right’, drop dead anyway, or got in a car crash and died, and/or a hundred other things happen! SO, what can be said? Well, pick a life style and live it. You don’t know what’s around the corner, age won’t matter. So, whatever you think is ‘old’ you will probably act like it!! 😆😆😆

None of us understand the struggles these people have gone through in their life so it’s best to just respect your elders, after all you wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them, literally. Not to mention my grandma was in the height of African American discrimination, she marched with Martin Luther king to make a stand against racial discrimination. Old people have the most majestic and awe inspiring stories to tell, all because they were brave enough to take part in things like racial rights movements or wars. This shows that we also need to take a stand on things like war, racism and fighting climate change and the extinction of earths beloved species. If you guys don’t like hearing how terrible our generation is than we should start taking a stand too.

That's the miserable half way point where you are forced to accept or condemn your past and give it one last shot while it's still possible if it's still possible. And right about then half of your friends start dying and if you aren't one of them you can then begin worrying about gradually dealing with the horrible shit mentioned in this video.

I still try to impart knowledge to them and some actually listen. And those who don't, well they are just like me when I was the same age. So no big deal there. For the young people who think they will live forever I have a eye opener for you. You won't. I saw enough death early on to learn that. Hopefully you won't have your best friend die in your arms while you try to hold his intestines inside him...no one needs that sort of experience. Peace to you youngsters.

I’ve heard that some of that smell is due to that fact that many prescription medications contain chemicals that smell already and are then excreted through the pores of the skin. Seems like that would make sense since the famed old people smell to me is very similar to hospital smell which is ‘medication central’.

Before my grandmother died, I never realized how close I was to her compared to how close I was to my mother. @Happy Dogg Contrary to harmful stereotypes of older people, age-related changes in body odor likely have nothing to do with personal hygiene. Instead, experts think it’s the result of odor compounds and bacteria interacting on the skin. The major odor compound at play is called 2-nonenal.
When certain chemicals break down in the body with age, 2-nonenal is one of the byproducts. The breakdown of omega-7 unsaturated fatty acids may be the biggest source of 2-nonenal. Experts have only detected 2-nonenal in people over the age of 40. Levels appear to only increase with age. While environmental and lifestyle factors can also influence body odor, 2-noneal appears to be responsible for the distinct, slightly musty odor associated with older people.
Keep in mind that experts are still trying to fully understand how body odor changes with age. While 2-noneal seems like a probable cause, there’s still a chance it doesn’t play much of a role. Instead, it may just be the result of interactions between skin gland secretions and bacteria living on your skin. The type of bacteria that live on your skin are different in various life stages. Likewise, the chemicals and compounds in your body can change with time, too.

that saying has always annoyed me. I live under the laws and policies of the old, I deal with the world the old have given me, Without the young the old wouldn't have been given a chance to get old in the first place.
I can say what I'm going to say cause I will be old someday. Old people are a freeloading plague. Yes its true that without generations prior and the work they did I couldn't live nor could I live in prosperity. Also a handful of elderly have done enough work in their lives to finish their live with society in their dept. This being said one cant deny the strain the elderly as I will be put on society. Technically speaking if people died at 50 then the quality of life of everyone else would rise.
P.S. I'm not saying this is a moral view point its just a technical philosophy, I don't condone such plans to make it reality and I value 99.99999% of human lives. I am merely making an argument that youth being in the young is the best thing for old people.
