Rights Grab Photo Contracts - What they are and why they are bad news.
Rights grab contracts are bad news in the gig and music photography sphere, and I want to take a bit of time to explain what they are and why they are bad for photography.

    I bought one of these with a couple of lenses in a charity shop around 25+ years ago. Unfortunately I didn’t know much about photography, and there was no internet at the time, and it ended up shoved in a cupboard and somewhere along the line it went missing. I’ve just won one on eBay for £1.99 (minus lens), I’m gonna have another go and actually use it this time! Excellent video thank you

    Great video! I love my FTb. It was my first SLR and I learned so much about photography on it. I've had it for over 15 years now and despite a few age related quirks it still works great. Funny thing is, back then I knew very little about how good these cameras are and I made my choice simply based on liking the way it looks lol. Since then I've gone down the rabbit hole of collecting and shooting vintage cameras and even doing some of my own repairs on them, but no matter how many new cameras I acquire the FTb holds a special place in my heart.

    5:04 The lens corrections have already been done if needed so you won't see a difference. Some lenses will have the corrections baked in and you can't undo/disable them, some lenses will have profile information in Lightroom and it will select/enable automatically from the list (but you can still disable/adjust them), some lenses like fully manual (as in no electronics) you have to manually tell Lightroom what lens was used (if you can remember haha) and it'll correct it accordingly. In this case with your body+lens you don't need to do anything, if you try with some random lenses it'll all make more sense.

    Just got one of these today for $125 AUD (body only), the weight feels similar to my Canon R6 so I'm not fussed about it at all, good to see good words about these cameras, especially it being my first film camera. Are cameras more expensive in the UK? Because I was thinking of the AE-1 and I've seen them absolutely everywhere in the city I live in for like $180-$250 with the FD 50mm. The reason why I didn't get an AE-1 is because I've never seen an FTb for sale and I heard good things about it, plus it has a much more manual approach which is what I'm looking for, basically want more of a challenge and new experience as my R6 is just good at everything to the point of boredom lol

    Great video Gideon interesting story, I was listerning to a podcast by two proffesional photographers, one of which lived in, but was moving back to the UK for this reason and one other. The other being he had asked to work as a photographer on move set and a union rep approched him and asked what he was doing, he had been moving his own equipment around, and to cut a long sort the made him use some guy for medial tasks from the union and he had to pay that individual. Most of this BS is coming from America, as they have done in Denmark the professional photographers should do like wise.

    Fascinating and indicative of how photographers are treated in all endeavours. It seems to me that the photographers worldwide need to take the "Norwegian Action". If images stopped appearing in the media, bands and their management would quickly realise that they need photographers just as much as the photographers need them. Musicians can be quite protective of their own rights as I found out when I was posting videos of cover bands playing live - I have had videos blocked on a number of occasions and have vowed never to buy the music of certain notorious blockers like The Eagles and Led Zeppelin. It is ironic that one of the most "protective" artists, Robert Fripp, has a youtube channel with his missus, Toyah, dedicated to covering other people's work. I wonder if THEY have ever been blocked. Keep on keeping on. Keith

    I just bought my 2nd one, used from MPB (again). I bought one 7 years ago but preferred my 6D so I sold it on. I regretted not owning one immediately. I paid €229 for thie latest one, just over £200 in excellent condition. I just like owning a piece of photographic history and I think it will always be seen as an important camera. On top of that it takes beautiful images. Can I just say that a used Canon 6D is currently the best bang-for-your-buck DSLR out there. It's very much overlooked because it never had class-leading specs, but being a Canon, it it a real workhorse and produces the best files since the 5D but with way better ISO and Focussing. You can pick them up for £400 anywhere and, with a nifty-fifty, will produce stunning images. It's a portrait monster.

    Please show me a Camera that has an higher Dynamic Range than the Fuji S3 or S5 series here is Ai searching for a camera that surpasses the Fuji S5 pro. Based on the information provided in the search results, there does not appear to be any modern digital camera that definitively surpasses the dynamic range capabilities of the Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro's unique SuperCCD SR II sensor, which could capture around 17 EV of dynamic range.

    • @gideonliddiardphotography
      @gideonliddiardphotography 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm not sure where the figure of 17EV for dynamic range on the S5 comes from, but it doesn't match anything I've ever found for the sensor, both Dx0 and Photons to Pixels indicate a significantly lower range than that.

    • @dollarinhand3443
      @dollarinhand3443 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@gideonliddiardphotography The calculation comes from Ai Perplexity at 17 EV and Chat GPT at 19 EV when you take into account that the sensor has +7 highlight recovery in the dual photodiode design sensor the base Ev of 10 for Perplexity and Chat GPT at 12 base. This is subject to using the right software the Fuji film Hyper-Utility Software HS-V3. You could get good results with Silkypix Developer Studio as though Hyper was better but way to slow. My Sony Camera's do not even come close to dynamic range but kill it on resolution, low light iso, autofocus, Image Stabilization, High Dynamic Range Multiple exposure, buffer size for Image stacking, Noise Reduction Algorithms with all these added there is no comparison for the everyday user. Though the Fuji S5 Pro still wins for pleasing jpeg images due to the sensor ability to take high dynamic range images. It is not the color I can set any of my Sony cameras to mimic the same color right out of the camera. Though they do not give that pleasing dynamic range but I will say the new cameras images are nicer to look at because of all the other benefits that the new camera has.

One was sold as working, but the shutter was sluggish, and thanks to the badly manufactured thread inside the lens barrel, I couldn’t get the front element out. Frankly, I don’t rate the build quality of the electro 35 at all, which given that the fx-2 and the fx-d were such great cameras, it’s hard to believe they were from the same manufacturer

    Ah the XA2! Much missed. My younger daughter had "borrowed" it and then lent it to a friend who was going backpacking to Australia - neither the "friend" nor the camera was ever seen again. I then sold my soul and picked up a Fuji AX 500 (something subliminal there?) 14MP with a 5X zoom which runs off of 2 AA batteries. About the size of a packet of cigarettes (if you remember what they were) it sits in the centre bin of the car and gets the batteries checked every couple of months but is always available, given that my "proper" cameras are a Yashica 635, a Fuji GS645S and a Zeiss Super Ikonta, it does get used quite a lot!

    5:15 Best battery for A-1 in my opinion is the 6V silver oxide one (V28PX/4SR44). It's a bit more expensive but it holds the voltage much better than alkaline one and these old cameras can sometimes be picky about voltage. For example if I use alkaline battery on my A-1, it might stop working after few rolls but with V28PX it keeps going.

    I still have mine. I purchased it new for $5000 Australian and soon added the battery grip. I have taken tens of thousands of photos with it - it was my studio camera for a while and was used heavily for weddings - and it still runs well and pleases me. It doesn't get a lot of use these days as there are a few more full frame Canons on the shelf - but it brings back many happy memories.
