Yeah, I noticed almost all the clips with with the Midway, the most powerful CV in the game. Those 6-torps per salvo TBs hardly got scratched even against Montanas. Like to see a "how not to suck" with T6 and T8. Shokaku gets 2 torps per TB salvo, and against those same Montanas, you're lucky to get those two torps off before your entire squadron gets shredded.
@@cfjruth Honestly, from all ive seen in these CV replays, PLanes cant be touched at all. Unlimitedp lanes and AA thats pretty shit. It cant prevent you from getting damaged now. PLanes are basically free damage to the one using the CV. Great Damage farm now.
Some suggestions for 17-19 point captains: Concealment expert + RPF or Concealment expert + Sight Stabilization on Hakuryu only (RPF is not a must, but can work with the 8km torp). Sight Stabilization along with Concealment Expert as the two 4 point skills for Midway. Also Survivability Expert and Aircaft armor are both MUST have 3 point skills for all CV's with the current overpowered AA. Take the Dive Bombers Mod 2 for all of your CV's, since dive bombers take most damage and do not have the heal of torpedo bombers. Sight stabilization is great for improving your dive bombing accuracy. Also Attack Aircraft mod 1 is good, but Torp Aircraft mod 1 is almost useless.
Having fun in each ship class in WoWS is my top priority. Said that, thanks Zoup for the CV guides lately, learned alot in advance that help me ingame with all the CV rework. Who else thinks that without em CVs the game would be dull and incomplete?
Rather have CVS in their semi-balanced state of pre-rework than this hot-garbage they threw in everyones face and act like it's remotely close to fair. UK CVs are going to be as OP as the Haku-was.
Nope. I don't like flying planes. If I want to do that I'll play WoWP or some other Flight Sim. I want to be captain of a ship - not a pilot. If I had my way CV's would be in a separate game all on their own. Sorry if this upsets you but it is how I feel. CV's ruin the game for me.
@@WandererJester first off, no, UK CVs suck and at best will be mediocre. Second off,old CVs were better in your opinion? I came to play a ship game, not a real time strategy game. Besides, old CVs were much more toxic. Oh so yeah. With one click it could delete a ship, by attacking it with few squadrons of bombers. Or cross-drop torpedo soup at a BB. Yeah, totally balanced.
VI CV are fun to play with good damage. But when you get to VIII you seeing planes fall from the sky most of the time. I just get to implacable and almost never get to second strike with 8 planes. First drop - rest of the planes evapourate and another round. When fly planes drop to 4 planes you only see them fall before a drop. Games against 6X ships mean you can get a nap since most of the planes fall before even spot anything. And there are tons of premium AA ships even on tier VIII that make a half of the map no fly zone. Alabama , Flint, Alaska, Bart even some DDs. And when enemy get 4 AA ships you cannot do anything. May be its get better but right now I am kind of frustrated.
With regards to comments disagreeing with you about tankiness. I had a Tashkent chase me for about 5 minutes (Midway) and set 6 fires (according to him) and he could not kill my CV. Most of the time, I'm flowing with our team, when possible, but sometimes it's just a lost cause. This vid has good advice. I never played the RTS version(over 15k matches) since it was not an enticing play style. I did the beta and on the PTS before the release. I think the new play style will ultimately be fine once they get some of the AA balance figured out. Also, I have not had a drop off playing DDs (my best class). Leave the AA off unless you need it. That has not changed from RTS and there are fewer planes roaming the map with this newer version If you have always left your AA on in a DD you were doing it WRONG. I have yet to talk to anyway who's be dev struck in the re-work (except maybe for a detonation). That's better than the old system. Cheers, Zoup. Good luck with the baby making, praying for you!
Great advice. I find in the early stages to make just the initial attack and "F" out get my next squadron. AA seems to intensify for subsequent attacks, especially on a CV. Also on the pre-battle screen hover over the opposition "grind" as they might not have their full AA developed yet. Some ships have switched their aircraft to a fighter, which will not be known until you launch an attack.
Thanks I knew some of this but you have given me some good ideas and reinforced others. I think an issue is teammates often misunderstand the CV role, happens with DDs too but hey it's a free game :)
While the bombers can do that, it’s not easy. I’ve only ever pulled it off once and dodged all attempts put against my DD. I personally use the Tiny Tim rockets for a nice middle ground between ease of use and murderous alpha damage.
I use the DBs against DDs extremely effectively. Post patch playing with the rockets, I can do some damage. Watch this hunt and kill of a T10 DD with T8 CV --- I've been able to do this same attack repeatedly now. th-cam.com/video/tyeY2EP3yao/w-d-xo.html
I've never touched a CV pre-rework. Now it's all I play. I've had a great time in the Ranger, over 60k xp so far. I've decided the outcome of many games I've played, good or bad. Although still learning, I think I can have great fun in the later tiers. This video has cleared up a few things for me, keep them coming.
My biggest issue is the huge AA OP gap for higher tiers than my CV. For example, I only have Tier 8 CVs at the moment but if im ever in a game with Tier 9s or 10s, their AA is so powerful, im lucky enough to get close enough for a single salvo, even if its just one ship im attacking. Im usually stuck spotting or harassing DDs, but if there are higher tier cruisers and BBs lurking around. Im pretty much useless.
The Battle of Midway did prove that TBD Devastators Torpedo Bombers should not go first, but the SBD2 Dauntless Dive Bombers would argue torpedo bombers should go first to allow them to have a field day with little anti-aircraft resistance and few opposing fighters. Poor Devastator crews. Coordinated attacks are more effective. I actually met Ensign George Gay. Very cool to meet him.
I like it too. Some things like the fighter consumable (which sometimes doesnt recognize enemy planes ....) or too much rockets per plane (DDs are harassed too much) , some glitches in dive bombing, dive bombers also need heal. It’s much more fun .
Same here. I've been playing since beta and never enjoyed the RTS system. I would only play RTS for easy plane kills for missions. That said, I am not sure if I will always feel this way but it's a nice change.
One more tip If you are going to sink with a ship near you, don’t run away. The ship will just sink you so go charge instead. Your secondary’s are there for a reason.
The only thing I want is the full CV lines back. US = Langley, Independence, Ranger, Lexington, Yorktown, Essex, Midway. Getting 68k xp in a Langley gets really boring taking the fact you do about 300 to 500xp per match.
I’m watching this over and over for like 2 years 😂😂😂 but I still kinda suck cuz dunno well for now this video has the best explanation how to play cvs 😂😂😂
Really like so help, because some of the tips in the vid do not seem to work. 1. My fighters never see destroyers until I am too close for an attack run, higher tier destroyers have shot entire squadrons down from behind. 2. Pushing with the team seems to be suicide, in high tier matches both destroyers and cruisers can destroy you before you can launch. 3. Going after targets of opportunity, results in harassment from the team. 4. AA is too accurate in high tier games, cannot dodge it and even destroyers at higher tiers shoot squadrons out of the sky at ranges Beyond your attack run. Anyway appreciate any help with these issues. BTW I am playing a Lexington I have not experimented with other carriers.
I used to play WOT, but I'm yet to actually play WOWS(due to inconsistent, glitchy WIFI where i live, which leads to in-game glitches, dropped games, etc). I have played many hundreds of games in WOWS Blitz on my smartphone. Now im learning carrier play on WOWS Blitz, in the American line. Starting with tier 4, theres a new plane for each ship through tier 6. Now its fighters with the USS Independence. Ive watched 2 WOWSB fighter tutorials. They say to launch my fighters just ahead of the direction the enemy fighters are headed, so theyll follow my fighters back to my ship, or over friendly ships to be killed by AA. But as soon as i launch fighters, i have to switch over to managing torpedo and dive bombers. First of all, i have no idea how to discern enemy fighters from enemy dive or torp bombers! All i see are tiny red dots moving across my Samsung Galaxy S7's tiny screen! At game's end, I see no evidence that my fighters have done anything! Granted i only find time to launch fighters twice in games, but they kill zero enemy planes!
I know this is 3 years old but ty i never knew you could set a way point just had my best game. On series x so yea was struggling. Never in back again. So many still do it!
I agree with you! I just wish WG would bring back the odd tier CVs in the line again. My idea for the US = Langley, Independence, Ranger, Lexington, Yorktown, Essex and Midway. Really doing 68k XP on langley is kinda dull
@@scivirus3563 It was 100k on Midway and 70k on Hakuryu, but i have not played them that much after 8.1, especially IJN CV's. Now with the flooding nerf in 8.1 i get about 75-80k average games on Midway and 55-65k games on Hakuryu.
Nope and nope. - Using attack squadrons it is a viable strategy with the american carriers in the start but what you want with the japanese carriers is to launch always as possible torpedo squadrons . Use the the reverse-F key method and target those BBs and cruisers and help your team to killing them as fast as possible. You can still spot the DDs near the cap and keep them spotted with fighters for your team but you don't want to waste time. - You will not want to use the torpedo modification 1 or something similar because: a) the time you have for an attack it is already very good. b) it is impossible to abort an attack the moment you start. So if you want to abort an attack and you are using that silly upgrade you are forced to waste more seconds. -And very careful when looking to his captain skills . You will not want to use DE in the japanese carrier captain. A better suggestion would be to use CE and RPF.
@@skuggsja6020 Of course. What you want is to have enough planes for one or two attacks. This will save your planes for future attacks. So how it works? Simple. You launch torpedo squadron and immediately lauch the first wave against the water ( careful to not hit your teammates ). what this will do is to make the first planes to return immediately to the carrier. And you will use the remaining 2 waves for an attack. If you spot a target that is well protected and you know your planes are going to get killed after the attack you can consider using only one attack wave. Later in the game if you found a lonely target with weak AA you can then consider using the full squadron. the idea behind this is to prevent your planes to being killed after an attack this will help you to not get deplaned. This tactic is very important when using torpedo squadrons. Attack squadrons you are probaly going to fly in full squadrons to use against DDs unless the DD is very strong AA, there is no need to use this tactic.
RPF on Hakuryu only. Sight Stabilization along with Concealment Expert as the two 4 point skills for Midway. @@thebaron6481 I have been using that. Never called it reverse F but I find it very effective. The DB drop 2 times befor going in. The only reason I cannot see to use this is if you care about stats.
As a CV tier 4 players, the learning curve and efficient planning can make CV’s very over powered. Even as a tier 4 against tier 5 bbs i can still manage to get 19+ torpedo hits and multiple dive bombing attacks
Much as in real life, where a CV goes nowhere without an escort, pushing with your team only works if you've got a team willing to stick by you and provide cover. If you're playing with randoes who refuse to communicate, stay back.
I hope you will do more of the "How to not suck ..." Series. Don't get me wrong, Ichasegamings captains series is incredibly detailed but it's also partially now almost 3 years old and especially with smoke changes, meta changes and what not a lot has changed even if the basics are obviously still true. As someone who basically played a bit in 2015 and then only came back a week ago a series like this is incresibly helpful and I always find your videos to be not overburdenly long but at the same time, informative. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to more.
Idk, as an aircraft carrier you’d wanna be undetected or behind the map for a while. While you do have high hp, you still have enemy carriers, torpedoes and destroyers. You can only do real damage with the planes and if you get them all shot down then you’re definitely a sitting duck
I'm very disappointed, that WG decide to remove the RTS gameplay of Aircraft Carriers. It made them unique. And while I never actually used a Carrier, I always found their gameplay to be quite entertaining and somewhat challenging.
So much better a tutorial than the how it works crap tbh... I feel I learned something... I'm still fuzzy and what key allows me to create multiple waypoints on the nav map though... I noticed you didn't mention DB's, So I'm assuming they don't play into your style of Gameplay and maybe aren't very effective either way... I know the WoWs Tutorial doesn't explain the aiming method for them very well and my DB sights disappear under me when I try to use them making it a guessing game as to when to drop them... But TY very much for this, makes me at least feel I might learn how to use this class eventually, lol...
When Hakuryu was OP, everyone lost their mind When the AA is OP, nobody bats an eye And all the while DDs are still suffering despite the hotfix. Also, excuse me? CVs are tanky? You kidding me, those things don't even have heal.
Boils down to: save your planes for the second stage of the battle when most surface ships are heavily damaged and CVs are not. It will be easy pickings grinding down the remaining scattered ships while you still have full HP, super scouting ability and will lose less planes due to enemy AA being damaged. Sure, by then you are the best ship to cap, why not.
When playing my Langley and using dive bombers I have a big aiming reticle problem. I start my run, line up and engage the aiming reticle. Most of the time it will slide toward the bottom of the screen and disappear off at the bottom of the screen, along with the ship I am aiming at, although I still have time left on the counter. Am I waiting too long or is there something else wrong? Very frustrating, to say the least!
In my tier IV Hosho I found it best just to hide my carrier somewhere in a corner. But when I stepped up to the tier VI I would have to agree with the video; move around don't be a sitting duck!
This video is obviously fake. All your planes die suddenly when you see the ''AA Fire'' icon in the game. At least for tier 6. How am i supposed to deal any damage, is anyone's guess.
Simple, they cant, fighters are complete trash, you can fly through them with ez do an attackrun (with rockets) and get away with litterly no dmg, cvs cant defend you anymore
Pretty sure that's the exact opposite of what the CCs themselves want. Only drama would come of that. If you want to hear Flamu's thoughts, go to his channel. If he hasn't made a CV video, then leave a comment asking for one.
Zoup is about the only one I can watch now. All of them have been hammering and faning the flames of cv hate. notser has been the worst at least large channels. And still not one vid about how great the rework is. Untill then the hate train moves on.
you need to do a how not to suck with DD's. since half the braindead people that play them are INCAPABLE of doing simple things like turning off their AA and continue to rush caps solo...then blame the cv
@@krios4141 when you shoot your aa guns your air detection equals surface detection. sims has a 6.6km surface detection and a 3.5km air detection. its aa range is around 6km. if a plane comes within 6km. my air detection will bloom to 6.6km, making me detected. if my AA is turned off and a plane comes within 6km of me. im still undetected
@@bladeclanhalo3 I have never seen this happen personaly... If it is truly like this then in game display is wrong. when pressing H in a battle you can see some information about your ship right? every time i do this it tells me (for example) detectibility by air 11.3km. detectibility by air after firing AA 11.3km. it never increases, so either you are wrong, or the displayed information is (as far as i can tell at least, please don't take this personal) :)

@@krios4141 Hey buddy. If u play dd, really go and turn off ur aa to make cv life harder. With the hotfix in where all ships gets reduced air detectability range, if a dd turns off aa, by the time CV with rocket planes spot it, it will always overshoot if the cv decides to immediately start an attack run (prep time for rocket planes increased a feck ton as well). If the dd is reasonably close (dont have to be glued) to ally ships, then the dd will always have a good escape route. Yes the cv can turn around to strike it after spotting it, but the CV will get only 1 strike off most of the time for AA is very brutal I play almost exclusively CVs now and I know it is not easy to find and kill the dd with aa turned off with the hotifx, but any dds with aa on will give me advanced warning and I can quickly turn a bit then start my atk run. Another funny example is that yesterday, I tried to find a shima in my rocket planes and Im spotted by the shima, but it took me almost 2 mins to find him for he was the lone survivor and nobody had any idea if the shima was heading west or east

@@CMDRFandragon what game are you playing. It's not wows.. Try t8 Cv.. Oh. You don't play cv. So how can you know
You make a good point about how tanky CVs are. It’s one of my favorite aspects of the rework. It makes so much sense from a historical perspective.
Tanky what are smoking i cid them miles away with a Gnei ...
Much needed advice. Thank you. I still haven't gotten the hang of CV play. It's a new class to me.
I miss the old way, with the tactical map
I keep on getting killed. My carrier keep on getting destroy. Wherever I go. I get found.
Fighters are much deadlier now, counter by shooting them down with your own.
Thanks I knew some of this but you have given me some good ideas and reinforced others. I think an issue is teammates often misunderstand the CV role, happens with DDs too but hey it's a free game :)
I've been watching a few of your videos lately and your voice is like a hearty plate of comfort food in the winter :D
Still waiting for a CC to tell people about how much better divebombers are than rockets when attacking DDs as a USN carrier
its so fucking true i can take half or more of a dd's health in one well placed drop.
I finaly am able to use the db ata 'll. But I have droped on 2 dd so far. Its a glourus feeling.
While the bombers can do that, it’s not easy. I’ve only ever pulled it off once and dodged all attempts put against my DD. I personally use the Tiny Tim rockets for a nice middle ground between ease of use and murderous alpha damage.
@@killergames391 I find after some practice I am hitting 9/10
None of this applies to first tier CV's. Just gotta be lucky in T4 and push through to get to the next tier.
Contrary to popular belief, I like the CV rework. Still getting used to the new play style, but it is definitely a lot more fun this way.
lol YOUR ARE THe MINORITY
You are not alone and certainly not in the minority! :)
I like it too. Some things like the fighter consumable (which sometimes doesnt recognize enemy planes ....) or too much rockets per plane (DDs are harassed too much) , some glitches in dive bombing, dive bombers also need heal. It’s much more fun .
@@scivirus3563 you're right . Majority of WoWs players are crying about it.
Same here. I've been playing since beta and never enjoyed the RTS system. I would only play RTS for easy plane kills for missions. That said, I am not sure if I will always feel this way but it's a nice change.
One more tip
If you are going to sink with a ship near you, don’t run away.
They discussed bringing back the odd-tiered CV's in possibly alternate lines on the main website/blog post.
300 to 500 huh? Guess game glitched for me when I was getting up to 5-6k in a hosho

Except unlike SPG you can actually fight back with good AA :P
BTW I am playing a Lexington I have not experimented with other carriers.
maybe this work with the faster cariers but my langley cant follow at all the team with her 10 knots
there is no ton of video like this out there, you're the only one I've found after the rework....
I like the CV rework, it has its problems but i hope they will fix the minor things soon at least it is way better than how it was before!
I agree with you! I just wish WG would bring back the odd tier CVs in the line again.
My idea for the US = Langley, Independence, Ranger, Lexington, Yorktown, Essex and Midway.

Reverse F-Key? Havent heard of that yet, can you explain?
Awesome! I hadnt heard or thought of that. Thank you!
RPF on Hakuryu only. Sight Stabilization along with Concealment Expert as the two 4 point skills for Midway. Also Survivability Expert and Aircaft armor are both MUST have 3 point skills for all CV's with the current overpowered AA. Take the Dive Bombers Mod 2 for all of your CV's, since dive bombers take most damage and do not have the heal of torpedo bombers.
Thank u for this as I got the Hermes yesterday and I'm just starting to have some success in it

I hope you will do more of the "How to not suck ..." Series. Don't get me wrong, Ichasegamings captains series is incredibly detailed but it's also partially now almost 3 years old and especially with smoke changes, meta changes and what not a lot has changed even if the basics are obviously still true. Cheers for this, Zoup. Keep it up!
How not to suck? Don't play the Atari-style caricature of a carrier. I mean really, could they make this rework any cheesier?
Idk, as an aircraft carrier you’d wanna be undetected or behind the map for a while. While you do have high hp, you still have enemy carriers, torpedoes and destroyers. You can only do real damage with the planes and if you get them all shot down then you’re definitely a sitting duck
I'm very disappointed, that WG decide to remove the RTS gameplay of Aircraft Carriers. It made them unique. And while I never actually used a Carrier, I always found their gameplay to be quite entertaining and somewhat challenging.
Top Tip for Extra AA Support, Be a Happy Camper, find were the BB's are camping and join them lol
The BB's will like having additional AA guns around them. Can never have too many AA guns around when you are being primaried by the CV squadrons

@@krios4141 when you shoot your aa guns your air detection equals surface detection.

Yes the cv can turn around to strike it after spotting it, but the CV will get only 1 strike off most of the time for AA is very brutal
