Yamato is difficult to be effective in against experienced players. She is ROUTINELY focused down by everything that can see/hit her (she is a huge target), and her heals cannot keep up. Her fire rate means she cannot deal more than she takes in this circumstance so most players stay in the FAR rear to minimize the risk (and thus are no help to the team early). Your early success in this game was primarily due to your two friendly ships that made themselves more enticing targets (and they both died as a result)- you got to mop up and it was good you were there to do that.
No. If your positioning is good and your aiming is good, Yamato is devastating. Her only real weakness is her AA, she's a punching ball for CV's. Another smaller drawback are her glacially slow turrets. Her rate of fire is no worse than most other BB's and neither is her heal. She has good armor when you angle properly, and she has one of the best torpedo belts in the game. And her accuracy/consistency with the unique upgrade is about the best in game.
Yamato with Unique upgrade is the ship that tells me my positioning is bad or my aiming is off. Because the shells always go where I tell them to. That is such a nice thing about it.
The guns work well close, the problem is the citadel cheek. Anything with big guns can citadel you close range. Even the big gunned tier 8 battleships will citadel if they aim for the cheek. A weakness which isnt intended (and impossible to balance) but still very prevalent is that its by far the most well known citadel layout in the community. Even new players know the yammy cheek. Still the big health pool allows you to tank 2-3 citadels without any major problems if youre healthy when you go in.
They really should fix that now it isn't even carrying the biggest guns in the game anymore. Yamoto secondaries are actually pretty good but you never get the chance to try it properly.
@@ew264 the ship is hard to balance as a whole. 32mm overmatch with the good accuracy and overmatch will always make it useful. Like you said if they made it harder to cheek it would be kinda op, and if they gave it better traverse it would just wreck everything.
My best game with Yamato was 4 kills, TWO detonations both back to back double kill, 175k damage, 9 citadels, two caps, 3m PD, General Offensive, Brothers-in-Arms and a lot more achievements. Was a magnificent game of what a Yamato can do if left unchecked. I run a speed reload Yamato over a Legendary Mod Yamato. I may lose accuracy but I throw school buses every 23 seconds with AR as well. 😂😂
Do I have a different Yamato? I can't seem to get this stupid ship to penetrate anything. I'm pretty sure I would get ricochets off of a Worchester... The rounds seem to hang even longer than the U.S. rounds. So sniping is ridiculous. It's armor sucks, and turrets are timed with hour glasses. I hear so much talk about this ship. But I am vastly more successful with an Iowa than I am with a Yamato. I'm sure I'm playing her wrong. But her only real claim to fame are big guns that don't actually seem to pen anything. I just don't get it...
Nice point about the "shot number of contacts" verses the amount of damage as a gauge PQ. I observe this all the time as I gauge the effectiveness of aiming verses RNG. It tells me when RNG is just trolling you. That's when I shut the game down and walk away. This game isn't about skill (other than positioning). It's about RNG. I play Yamato A LOT! I will have 150+K in 1 game with 45 connected shots, and the next game 80K with 65 connected shots. I see a lot of broadside shots with well aimed connected hits do 4 or 5K damage. I still maintain that RNG is the most broken thing in World of Warships. Was able to do consistently 200K plus around 6 months ago, but now your lucky if you get 100+K consistently. I believe that WG has nerfed the connect damage so as to extend the matches and help prevent blow outs. It has, in fact, done the opposite. Due to poor connect damage, I am are seeing more huge blow outs than ever before. Massive loosing streaks. Very frustrating games. WG needs to fix RNG! Boadsides especially need to get the proper connect damage back. Just my rants of frustration PQ.
Hi PQ, new suscriber here. I've a video petitions, maybe a weird one, from your perspective. How about a Ibuki One take video? I know that the ship is an old one, but I've been out of the game for ages, and, well, I don't see many Ibukis out there, to ask for tips or similar. I think that my use of the ship is good, but it can be improved. Keep up the good work! Love the One take videos.
Just got Yamato yesterday and still learning about it. Having issues with dispersion at long range and kinda feel like any shots I land at long range are lucky shots. Still enjoying learning about this one though and looking for any tips I can find.
I had the same issues as you. I find Yamato is kind of a consistent dpm ship, not a sniper. You have really good dispersion horizontally, just bad vertical, but that with 32mm overmatch makes you destroy nose in bbs and cruisers. You can get super trolled with broadside targets, but if they angle in you start 20king cruisers every time. You’re also really tanky nose in, just don’t get stuck there locked on an island or something. Also, important to note, your dispersion DOES get better with a spotter plane up.
PQ what server are you in ? Asking this because players in RU, EU, NU are mostly easier to deal with. In Asia server, lots of folks are very tricky, they hide well and surprise snipe
Think my most played ship is the Cleveland for the complete opposite reasons you like the Yamato. I love pissing off BB players as I just spin in open water and then go dark with the really good concealment rudder shift and decent tankyness. Just love the rush you get.
How TF is your Yamato that accurate, especially in terms of vertical accuracy? I stopped playing it because mine just constantly "brackets" all my targets...
Protip: if you don't have leg mod, use range mod and the spotter plane when you need accuracy. Vertical spread, which is the most annoying in the Yamato, is significantly reduced the more range you have (in all ships btw). As a bonus, you get to citadel static carriers who think nobody has range of them at the start of the match.
out of curiosity, What about Montana? True you lack Yamatos Overmatch, but those shells hit like a fully loaded fright train. And they don't overpen as much being a smaller caliber and slower velocity.
Montana is the most consistent all rounder battleship of all times, not gonna change in a long term. Yamato is even nowhere close to the characteristics of Montana but she can hit hard if the shells connect from mid range or close quarter somehow
Hey pq, i recently got yamamoto isokru but i have the yamato, stasuma and harugumo all with relatively high level commanders. What ship should get yamamoto do you think?
Always satisfying to see a Yamato player that push with the team 😊 I hate the backline campers with 90%+ hp at half time and barley left spawn... 😑 Thank you for this video 🤝👍
Staying down is a safe play, id rather stay behind and do less damage than to push and killed by HE spammer, not to mention the ovetwhelming numbers 0f DD and subs
@@lamdang2701 the key words: WITH the team. If you stay 17-25km behind your team the entire(!) round you are not "playing safe". You are being a coward. EDIT: regardless of what BB you're sailing.
I just ended researching the yamato and bought it today, from my experience my favourite was amagi. Nagato and fuso were decent, and izumo it's in a weird spot but it's basically a yamato tutorial.
Yamato's in-game citadel was clearly designed for maximum vulnerability, and she is the absolute worst of my BBs re: shell damage. 9 gun salvo = 1,680 points, all night long. The memory of Tsushima weighs heavily on the WeeGee brains. That writ, her range and accuracy are undeniably fun, and the art department did a good job with her gorgeous looks.
I'm grinding toward the Yamato now, snipping is the way until it is time to push in, Japanese battleship aren't brawlers. I was accused of cheating in my Izumo for snipping Japanese battleships dispersion are predictable
WG should've never released ships with larger guns than Yamato. >:( It both puts the Yamato to shame and is annoying for people who care about angling. Overmatch is ok only in doses.
This ship is terrible inconsistent and pathetic. Idc ehat any of yall say because a of a few good matches where luck plays to much a factor. Its slow af. You get focused by everyone and their grandma and its practically useless early game takinv you out of the immersion and by the time it can be utilized to be fun the match is nearly over already. Its absolute dog shit
"slow" aka 90% of BBs.. "Get focused by everyone" of course, you're a BB with the biggest guns and one of the longest range, taking you out is a priority "Taking you out of the immersion" bruh, 1- it's an arcade-ish kinda game, and 2- the real Yamato got taken out by a carrier before seeing any noteworthy action. She fired her guns once on American ships before having to retreat due to incoming torpedoes, and then got taken out like 4 months later in her next battle. I'd say immersion is pretty spot on lol
As somebody who plays a decent amount but I’ve never unlocked the Yamato currently grinding it from the izumo, in the current Meta should I just buy the satsuma instead of the Yami, I have the credits and are aware that the satsuma is much more expensive to play?
