As so many of your instructional videos, this is most concise & clear explanation of the release.
I have spent years listening, reading, and watching videos to learn about the golf swing & you said everything I heard and more in just 7 minutes. I now have a better understanding of what is happening when my swing is going well or poorly.
And now I know why (1) pulling w/ my left hand in the downswing, (2) keeping my lead arm “down the line” at the top of my backswing, & (3) adding a motorcycle rev sometimes ALL works together to help straighten my shots!!!
PLEASE do more videos about parts of the swing like this. I haven’t found anyone on TH-cam doing a better job of concisely explaining the golf swing!!!

I can now match up what type of release I need to my type of backswing, and boy what a difference it has made to my consistency of contact, long ma it last 🙏🏻

This was quite helpful as I was, indeed, getting a bit confused given some of the conflicting instructions I was seeing on the channels I follow. Thanks!

You have been needed on TH-cam for a long time, I could never understand all the contradictions. I'm sharing your videos to as many as my golfing buddies that I can.

I absolutely love this video! I watch a channel with Danny Maude and while I like a lot of his techniques I feel like my backswing and swing path doesn't work with some of his lessons. So I keep sticking with what is working and trying to make microadjustments. I'm 43 and the flexibility thing really hit home. Got my first lesson tomorrow and going to mention this video to the instructor.

I went to that lesson, and he did focus on toe up to toe up. What he worked with me the most on is pulling with my left hand instead of pushing with my right, because I have an over the top swing and I'm right hand dominant. None of it felt quite right until I watched a views videos from Rotary Swing where he discussed dropping the hands and rotating the hips. Doing this made it much easier to let my left hand do the work. I tried that on the ranger and from my SW up to my 6i it worked great. Where I started to lose it was with my 5i and up. I wasn't slicing anything but my shots were headed to the right. It felt like with the shorter clubs my rotation was more in sync. With my longer clubs it feels like I'm finishing my rotation before the club head hits the ball. It was even worse with my driver. Any suggestion on how to get your longer clubs and rotation synced up?

I am so impressed with your style of teaching. I teach tennis and love how your experience is beneficial to understand the different tips for each style of golfer. Also your drills are effective and your viewers can practice these themselves. I look forward to watching more videos.

Great video thanks for sharing. I am just getting back into golf and realizing that I'm flipping my golf club. I enjoy the motorcycle release and have worked at it and my compression has come back and I'm starting to feel much better about my swing. Thank you again 👍👍

I'm so glad I found this channel. The fact that you understand that there's as many ways to swing as there are players is a huge draw for me. I like that you provide multiple solutions to different problems. Thanks for the guidance!

I’ve always taken each channels tips and tried them to find what works for me. But this is a very good point you’re making… I wasted a lot of time on Tips that more than likely weren’t conducive to my swing.

Excellent video. It seems like what you do in the backswing. You must reverse it on the downswing. But which swing do you like to teach?

  • @indianajim

I feel like the release of the club is natural as long as we aren't tense through impact. If we aren't "trying" to "make" the club do something with our hands and arms as we come through, then it's all about setup and backswing which bear results through the downswing. I think this is historically my problem when I'm trying too hard to hit it, I tend to short-arm my swing and baseball the thing to left field which either snap-hooks because my right shoulder comes forward or slices because I've rolled my left hand back or overturned my hips and the face goes wide open. I really appreciated your double-miss video, I learned a lot from that one!

This is excellent instruction… I like the fact that your teaching is not putting a square peg in a round hole, like so many others do in their teaching! I am a 325 lb man and cannot rotate like a pro so my swing cannot possibly resemble tiger or Rory etc….
Also, when you look back at some of the greatest ever like Bobby jones, you find his release sooo different from todays pro players!

It has helped my golf game tremendously by focusing on the club exiting to the right/following the golf ball. Also, I'm watching The Open Championship and seeing Billy Horschel get up and down countless times from 50-100 yards. It has me thinking that I'd love to see you do a video on how to get those 50-100 yard pitch shots close to the pin! Help me Sensei!

Great description of the release types. I believe the body rotation release is for younger people. Ernie Els and Tiger Woods probably have the most successful forearm roll releases and they have plenty of control over their shots.

Yes as long as the club (flashlight) stays in front of your chest during the swing!

Very cogent advice. The dilemma is; every player has their "own" swing, or, every player conforms to a "norm". Despite being different, we all use the same body parts which are capable of producing the same types of motion (albeit to a greater or lesser extent based on age, talent and flexibility). Learning, practicing and executing the best possible swing is not the same as producing the best swing possible.
