    Ran across this video as i was looking for videos about cycling performance and diabetes correlations. And i just want to share, if anyone also feels this way, that our body just tends to decay much quicker than people with normal state of health. Like i dont really know if its just me but its just really difficult to gain from the progress of biking. Ive started biking for about 5 months now and im just thankful and happy with biking and will continue this for the longest.
    Also, biking made me realize late that my heart was getting weak and that i was able to somehow rebuild my health back due to the intensity of my cycling sessions. Lastly, cycling really made me learn even more about my health (ive been diabetic for 2 decades) the fact that having high blood sugar makes my body catabolic which is saddening since it destroys my progress.

      Nice to hear your story. Diabetes effects everyone differently but being in control is the key to beating this disease. I certainly don’t let it hold me back. I’ve been 2nd in the world DH masters. European champion DH masters. Won many motocross races. Now bringing that all over to road cycling and winning local crit and TT races. If you allow it to beat you then you are already beaten. Small changes make a massive difference. Do your best to be in control

    Hello fellow T1. Have you looked into putting your Libre sensor data directly to your Wahoo? I have a Heammerhead and I was able to add a field with my levels and trends directly as a field on my Karoo GPS. Life changing!

    Great video mate, I’ve been into cycling for about 7 months now also a type 1, the only thing I’ve found works for me is not injecting insulin after my breakfast if I’m going on a longer ride, I tend to spike then drop down to 7.5 after about an hour and a half. I don’t know if this is a healthy thing to do🤷‍♂️ but if I have my units with breakfast and go out I’m hypoing after about 40 minutes of riding

      @@WanderingDiabetic if I’m going racing or out for a 1.5-2h smash ride I probably do same as you but carry my pen with me. Bloods spike but then comes down nicely as the body uses up the glucose

    Great video wish I would’ve found you earlier. Sounds like you too have the same strategy that I have during it ride. I’d like to know what you eat before you start and how many units you like to have on board and also I’m looking for a high calorie food or drink with a few carbs so I don’t have to bolus, but have the calories for energy any ideas?

    • @thediabeticcyclist4936
      @thediabeticcyclist4936  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@barronblack8411 glad you enjoyed it mate. Everything I do depends on what sort ride I’m doing. If I’m going to race I will eat my normal high carb breakfast or oats/porridge and maybe bolus 1-2 units max and just the ride / race I will consume up to 100g carbs an hour, as I’m in race mode the body just takes what I’m putting in as fuel and generally will never need to bolus. If I’m doing a chilled ride with friend’s I will consume less carbs but still about 60g an hour and maybe bolus a little more often during ride if it’s a long one.
      Carbs are fuel. Never restrict the carb in take to much. Little and often goes a long way. 👍

      This is great. I think we’re both on the same plan. Tell me what you use to get those 60 or 100 carbs. Is it a Cliff bar something you put in your drink? What do you take with you?

    Great video! New sub! How do you get the constant updates on the sugar? I have the libre 2 sensor on my inner thigh and always swipe my phone to scan it? Is there a way for it to automatically send the update to your phone/watch?

    • @thediabeticcyclist4936
      @thediabeticcyclist4936  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use an app on my iPhone called Shuggah. It turns the libre 2 into a constant monitor and you hardly ever need to scan it.

    Awesome video, best I've found for cycling with type 1, a battle I'm having every time I'm out on the bike. Can you tell me how much you adjust your doses before the ride for long and short acting?
    Also are you using the new libre 3 to get the updates on a watch? Any idea if available on Android? Sorry for all the questions

    • @thediabeticcyclist4936
      @thediabeticcyclist4936  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much. Glad you liked it. I use a libre 2. I believe you can use an app on an android phone. I very rarely take insulin when on a ride. 80% of the time it’s all pre planned from the carb intake before I ride and I usually use homolog as its a lot slower acting before a ride and keeps things more constant for when I’m eating. Also the type of ride depends on how much insulin I take. If it’s an intense workout I might not take any insulin prior depending on my bloods. I rather be higher and not worry than over dose and have to fight to get the bloods back up.

    Hi - enjoyed the vid, thanks. I’m T1 using the Libre also and looking to get into cycling. Are the updates on the Apple Watch automatic as I know with the phone you need to touch to get the latest numbers. Thank you.

    • @thediabeticcyclist4936

      With an Apple Watch you can download an app called shuggah on the iPhone and it will download to the Apple Watch and you will have notifications all the time and also see the glucose graph on your watch. It’s amazing.
