Barn Find 1980 Toyota Supra - Will it start?

We found our 1980 Toyota Supra (Celica Supra) sitting outside in front of the seller's barn. It had been sitting for years and had sunk into the pavement. The roof had been caved in causing the sunroof to leak. The catalytic converter had been stolen. She's crispier than overcooked Pillsbury sugar cookies. Our Supra had seen better days. Will it start? We had about two days to find out before we took it to the drag strip for import day!

I need to start my 5 ME celica Supra too.After years of storage, would be nice to prep it for it's 40th anniversary! Hope coronavirus goes away so we can drive it to car shows!

Sweet. I got a 1987 Toyota Cressida mx73 with a carbureted 5M engine in it. The 5mge never made it where I live because we still had leaded fuel till 2002 or something. Originally my Cressida had a 22r engine. Plonked the 5M from a 1994 mx83 car with a w58 manual transmission. With a better carburetor, I think it can perform as well as the 70s Datsun 280z cars.

A 5m backed by a manual in Cressida should run with the 70's Z's. We got a mid 17 at almost 80mph out of this automatic backed 5m at the track, which is right what they tested them at back in the day in magazines.

Owned an '81, fabulous car; needed 2 fuel pumps across the 80,000 Kms I drove.

Funny you mention that, because to get it running, we had to replace the fuel pump!

i had a used 79 supra in 1987..i put three different fuel pumps in...long story short, i sold it..and later found out from the man that bought it said that at some point someone put a non vented gas cap on it..causing the fuel pumps to short out due to being over worked.

Amazing condition. Not something that should be raced in my opinion. But that poor starter😅. Next time, prime the fuel lines/pump by cycling the key, without hitting the starter over and over.
