@@glassgaming6429 in my case, Anytime I adjust the chain to where I think it should be it seems to bind up at one spot….if I loosen it, it seems too loose in spots. I’m going to find a shop that knows more about chains than me. I can work on shaft drive all day long! Lol
Specs in manual of my 97 magna call for .8 to 1.2 inches of travel.. keep in mind point eight is Slightly more than 3/4 of and inch . So shoot for 1 inch and you're good. Also whenever replacing the chan you should also replace sprockets. I take mine to a shop and have it done.
More accurate to.measure length of adj.above nut. Make the same each side. ALWAYS ERR ON LOOSE SIDE! IF CHAIN IS WORN ...REPLACE CHAIN AND SPROCKETS...THEY ARE A SYSTEM! done correctly...chain should last up to 50k miles. My 2003 triumph tiger 955i did 50k with one adjustment!
So I find the tightest point and make sure it has an inch of travel? I have an 84 magna v30 and it’s my first bike so I’m learning
If your chain is still in good, serviceable shape. Yes! I’m finding this chain may need replaced.

You really need a new chain. If it gets real tight in a spot that means you've got some stiff links.
