It’s perfect for tight trails, definitely gets into places that my full size truck can’t ( or wouldn’t look the same if it did 😂)! Thanks for watching and the great comment!
This was another great video. I saw your brother's and his cracked windshield. At Wal-Mart they sell rainx windshield repair kit for $12. I'm a trucker and use those all of the time. On birdseyes if done properly, you can't even see them. And you can fix long cracks too. I use my dremel and a tiny glass bit and make a hole near the end of the crack and use the rainx repair. Then after it sets (24hours), I make holes along the crack about an inch or less and use the rainx repair all the way along the crack. It works best if the windshield is warm, the glue travels a lot further if it's warm. If done right, the crack completely disappears and never cracks again. Hopefully that helps him. I fixed a rare windshield that way for a guy
Great tip! I bought a glass repair kit to keep in my cab just in case. I told my brother about your windshield technique and he said thanks! Looks like we will be firing up the dremel 👍
@@OlympicOverland Since the glass is hard to get, maybe there's another windshield you can practice on. Thanks Todd! It is fun to hit these narrow trails and have access to UTV routes. Our Dodge definitely can’t make it down most of this stuff either but the bigger camper trucks work better for longer trips so you just have to have both! 😂👍
@@OlympicOverland I agree on bigger trucks with a camper setup are better for long trips. It's funny you said Dodge, cause I'm rocking a 2019 Ram Power Wagon with a Topo Toppers Mesa camper on it, and it's perfect for my long weekend campouts in my desert area with little to no trees in the way. Cool to see those wheels lift off the ground in that terrain. I guess the camper settops add to the rigidity of the frame? Also cool to see the Honda's interior; I drive an '86 Accord and see a few similiarities. I'd say bring a winch so you can always get yourself unstuck. Shouldn't be too hard to winch those keis by hand!
Yeah, the second I sat in a Honda Acty it reminded me of my 80’s ears Accord and CRX that I had owned! We usually have a small come along hand winch or tow straps if both trucks are on the trails. The small size and light weight makes getting them out of tricky situations much easier than my 9000lbs Dodge camper 😂👍

A roof rack could get hung on low branches. Maybe D ring tie downs?
Thanks! I always enjoy the trips and editing time, definitely some of my favorite things to do. A kayak rack would be great on top. @@OlympicOverland I am just trying to figure out how far you drive those Kei campers to find trails. The Sol Duc 2918 trails/roads are nice, but your routes look more interesting. I really liked an earlier video where you camped right along the river. This is why I thought you might be more on the west side of ONP somewhere around the Bogachiel? Hopefully we won't have to wait for another Corn Roast at Andrews to cross paths and chat again. My 500EXC and I am are right at the mouth of the Elhwa if you need an adventure co-pilot.
It is a Solostove and I believe the model is called the Campfire. We have the Ranger size as well for our bigger camper and both work great. We use them until the fire bans kick in during summer then switch to the Ignik Firecan propane fire pit, definitely also worth checking out 👍
I love your videos!! I have a mini truck myself and also live in Washington. I'm trying to find more camping spots like the ones you find. Do you have any recommendations?
Hello Fredy! Guatemala looks beautiful and I would definitely like to travel there someday. It would be a fun trip to drive all the way from Washington state in the U.S. ! A friend of mine has made the trip and is currently in Chile heading south with his old Toyota truck. 👍
Yeah it seems to work pretty good with the camper, that extra weight over the diff locked rear axle is helpful! The Honda is mid engine so it already has pretty good weight distribution unloaded but it’s nice when a camper setup actually helps off-road rather than making things awkward! 😁
Hello! Both of our trucks have 660cc 3 cylinder motors but they are 4 valve per cylinder heads so rev to around 7500 rpm. It’s pretty amazing how well that small of a motor actually works in these trucks. Many Kei trucks before 1990 were actually 550cc models and I believe one of the original trucks that Honda built in the 1960’s was a 360cc multi carburetor truck and it sounded cool! 👍
@@OlympicOverland it's amazing that they can cover the ground you traversed, some of those hills were quite steep, great to see that you could work on fitting the part yourself, love the camper you built on the rear, is it corroplast over plywood? And now you've been out and about in it is it holding up to the weather? Love to hear back.
@@br.markanthony574 the campers are holding up great so far and we have been using them a lot in the rain and snow. I also don’t park it under cover so it’s pretty much getting all of the wet weather that the coastal Pacific Northwest has to offer ha ha! We basically just made our own light weight composite panels out of 5mm ply bonded to plastic sheeting, all of the seams are covered with Eternabond so they are definitely sealed up well. 👍
@@br.markanthony574 These brothers are very crafty by trade with their own shop. His brother was cutting custom metal spacers when changing out wheels/tires.
Hi, we basically made our own composite panels with 5mm ply and plastic. We get so much rain here on the coast that waterproofing was on the top of our list. All of the seems are covered in Eternabond and the campers have been holding up great 👍
How is the camper mounted to the bed? I use a suzuki carry as my work truck for a pool biz and want to build a topper to protect all my tools and chemicals!
Hi, after breaking lots of different camper tie down systems off-road over the years I only run bolt through setups now. On these Kei campers we mounted them with large diameter Rivnuts in the bed and grade 8 bolts with large fender washers. The campers are really light so it’s kind over overkill but they are definitely secure and have held up great!
It has been one of the best vehicles that I have ever owned. Really fun on trails and very useful for daily chores. The short wheel base and narrow width is great! 👍
Hi, I don’t think you could go wrong with either truck, they both perform really well. A friend of ours has a Daihatsu Hijet and really likes it too. I think for the way we use our trucks it kind of boils down to tire selection, clearance and having a rear differential lock. I have driven all of the different models and every manufacturer has a very distinct cab and driving feel, for me the Honda just felt really good 👍
I like the minimalist styling. One question, are you guys hobbits? The beds feel so short on those, is there enough yawn and stretch room? Crap, that's more than one question.
Ha ha we are Hobbitish! I am about 5’8” and my brother is similar height. After owning and building lots of campers I know what length sleeping bunks work for me and the interior bed length is exactly how tall I am so that works perfect. If you wanted to build longer, just leave the tailgate off or build an extension above the tailgate because the bunk height is equal to the bed rail. Cheers 👍
Lol awesome, I'm 5'7, so... Appreciate your research! I suppose if you use it just to sleep, it's perfect. All of the fun stuff is outside anyway. I mean, most of the fun stuff is outside anyway.
The Dodge is getting a big steering upgrade and some suspension work so should be back in action soon! I have a bunch of trip footage to edit so keep an eye out for another Dodge video and I will definitely be posting more as we get it dialed in for this season! 👍
They get pretty good mileage, Honda claimed up to 44 mpg but I’ve never gotten that. Mid 30’s is common with my bigger tires and lift with mixed on/off-road driving. I typically don’t bring extra fuel but a 2.5 gallon reserve would be plenty to get you out of the woods in most cases. 👍
I'm about to buy a 98 Acty myself and wondering where or how I could get your lift/tires? Did you make your own lift? And if you needed spacers which do you use?
Hi Jeff, the lift I am using is a 2” kit from eBay. The seller is called Vanessasmiles and they are U.S. made, price should be around $220-$240 if I remember correctly. The tires are Forceum MT08’s on 13” early 90’s Honda Civic steelies. This combo is great and doesn’t require wheel spacers 👍
@@OlympicOverland awesome! Thank you and I love your guys rigs. I really want to get a custom bumper like your brother has aswell for the front and back. Did he build that himself?
@@jeffk5713 thanks! The front bumper on my brothers Carry is actually a fairly inexpensive Jeep bumper from Amazon, I think they are around $200-$300 and a few different companies seem to put their names on them. Just look up Jeep front bumper on Amazon and there should be a good selection of inexpensive winch bumpers. As much as my brother and I like to build stuff, they are cheap enough that I almost don’t think you could build it for less money and a day of cutting/welding. 👌
There are so many cool modern light trucks! I wish we could import new ones but currently in the U.S. we can only import vehicles that are 25 years old or older. I need to visit Japan and test drive them! 😁

Hey I was wondering if you guys would know what the Co2 emissions are on a Subaru Sambar 1997 or even on your kei truck so I could get a estimation so I know how much it will cost to register?
Hi Sam, I’m not sure what the emission info is on these because in our area we don’t have testing. They seem pretty efficient and all have catalytic converters so I’m guessing the emissions should be fairly low. Sorry man, I wish I could be more help but it’s just something that we don’t have to deal with at the moment. Good luck 👍
They are attached with oversized rivnuts and grade 8 hardware. I have broken too many camper tie down systems off-road over the years so only use bolt through style mounting now.

Good eye 👍
@@OlympicOverland I am just trying to figure out how far you drive those Kei campers to find trails. The Sol Duc 2918 trails/roads are nice, but your routes look more interesting. I really liked an earlier video where you camped right along the river. This is why I thought you might be more on the west side of ONP somewhere around the Bogachiel? Hopefully we won't have to wait for another Corn Roast at Andrews to cross paths and chat again. My 500EXC and I am are right at the mouth of the Elhwa if you need an adventure co-pilot.
@@stevenpelayo9418 I need to get my XR650 fired up for more moto trips this spring. Let’s ride!
love it! what brand is your small fire pit thingy ?
It is a Solostove and I believe the model is called the Campfire. We have the Ranger size as well for our bigger camper and both work great. We use them until the fire bans kick in during summer then switch to the Ignik Firecan propane fire pit, definitely also worth checking out 👍
@@OlympicOverland thanks for the

I love your videos!! I have a mini truck myself and also live in Washington. I'm trying to find more camping spots like the ones you find. Do you have any recommendations?
Saludos desde bellingham guatemala en la casa
Hello Fredy! Guatemala looks beautiful and I would definitely like to travel there someday. It would be a fun trip to drive all the way from Washington state in the U.S. ! A friend of mine has made the trip and is currently in Chile heading south with his old Toyota truck. 👍
Do you think the extra weight of the camper is beneficial when off-road? Extra traction?
Yeah it seems to work pretty good with the camper, that extra weight over the diff locked rear axle is helpful! The Honda is mid engine so it already has pretty good weight distribution unloaded but it’s nice when a camper setup actually helps off-road rather than making things awkward! 😁
Nice trip, ye looked like ye enjoyed yerselves, I've been meaning to ask, what cc are those trucks, 1.3? Great video, 👍🚙👌🇨🇮
@@OlympicOverland fantastic job, was it difficult to do the corners? The trucks look the biz. 👌
@@br.markanthony574 These brothers are very crafty by trade with their own shop. His brother was cutting custom metal spacers when changing out wheels/tires.

Thank you!
W son for filming
What did you use for siding to make it waterproof?
yo andy! love your stuff! are you ever gonna do a build vlog video?
Which would you say is the better truck, the Honda or the Suzuki?
@@jurban7998 ha ha yes!
I like the mini but I miss the dodge/m1031.
Me too!
The Dodge is getting a big steering upgrade and some suspension work so should be back in action soon! I have a bunch of trip footage to edit so keep an eye out for another Dodge video and I will definitely be posting more as we get it dialed in for this season! 👍
@@OlympicOverland AWESOME! Love it! Keep up the good work folks.
While on trail, how is your gas consumption? If you carry extra, how much do you carry?
They get pretty good mileage, Honda claimed up to 44 mpg but I’ve never gotten that. Mid 30’s is common with my bigger tires and lift with mixed on/off-road driving. I typically don’t bring extra fuel but a 2.5 gallon reserve would be plenty to get you out of the woods in most cases. 👍
Did you make or buy that camper
I made it, another one of my videos shows a bit of the build process.
What doors did you use for the campers?

Would you guys ever consider making one of these for purchase? Or make one for someone who already has a Kei truck near yall?
Hi Brandon, I’m working on getting a better shop space this spring with hopes of building a few more campers in the summer. Contact me when we get closer to summer and I will have a better idea of the timeframe for building more. 👍
fell in love with the song in the beginning, who is that?

Hey I was wondering if you guys would know what the Co2 emissions are on a Subaru Sambar 1997 or even on your kei truck so I could get a estimation so I know how much it will cost to register?
Hi Sam, I’m not sure what the emission info is on these because in our area we don’t have testing. They seem pretty efficient and all have catalytic converters so I’m guessing the emissions should be fairly low. Sorry man, I wish I could be more help but it’s just something that we don’t have to deal with at the moment. Good luck 👍

How are the campers fixed to the trucks?
They are attached with oversized rivnuts and grade 8 hardware. I have broken too many camper tie down systems off-road over the years so only use bolt through style mounting now.
