I finally got around to giving this interview a listen. Great chat. I remembered seeing Dokken Live back home in Saginaw opening up for Aerosmith, 1988. And once again for the Monsters of Rock at the Silverdome.
George has always been on my list of "Guys I have to have a beer with someday" This interview confirms my reason why. One of the greatest still alive and still humble
George seems so humble, but lets be clear, he is one of the big three (IMO) - EVH, Randy and George. Jake and Warren are a close 4 & 5. You are privileged to have this legend on your show!
Yup he is part of the big 3, Lynch told RR about Karl Sandoval and the guitars he builds, hence the polka dot V! GL is a great human being, I met him and he told me I sounded good! EVH would never say that
I agree with your list, but Yngwie Malmsteen deserves to be on it also. When it comes to the 80's Yngwie Malmsteen most definitely shocked the world when it comes to guitar playing. His solo albums , the Steeler album, and the Alcatrazz albums were massively insane when they came out.
George, a master of sculpturing tone, (an amp collector, a guitar builder) proves that his endless search for the ultimate tone never ends, a pioneer of core musicianship, a humble gentleman and a true artist
I was so lucky in 1983, my first concert, to see Dokken open for Dio. Was sold 30 seconds into "Tooth and Nail" seeing George Lynch play, and been a fan ever since. Wish I had saved all 5 of the ticket stubs from the Dokken concerts I went to in the 80's
Great interview. George was an awesome guest. Very humble and passionate, down to earth.... It's really amazing listening to all these players on Tone-Talk who were my heroes growing up. Thank you to Marc and Dave for doing a great service to all of us by interviewing these guys and asking questions we always wanted to ask ourselves. Awesome show.
Loved how George was picking Dave's brain on the tech details of amps. Even someone as accomplished as George is still on the lookout for that one little tidbit that might help improve his tone. We can all relate!
I went to the Guitar Clinic in Waterford, Michigan last Thursday. Met George after the Clinic. Pictures and Autographs! Then the Concert Last Friday Night! George was on Fire even though he was Sick.
Awesome interview.. Man hearing George back in 1983 when I was introduced to Dokken.. This interview is chock full of information and stories which is priceless.. Thanks..
it's interesting. I've seen Dokken live 6 times I think, all in the 80's but never went to see them specifically if that makes sense. They opened for Dio, Triumph, Van Halen, and several other bands I saw back then...they always put on a great show....but I think they are one of the bands I've seen the most live but never went to see them specifically which is a testament to how hard a working band they were. Great interview!
I didn't know much about George & for some reason thought he was a conservative solo guy from the 80s. But this interview was so great; he's an awesome fellow. Thanks, Marc & Dave.
I have to say. There's been a lot of great Tone Talk Ep. but this one by far is my favorite. I was laughing so hard when George was telling the story of the stolen guitar my wife came from the other room to ask what I was laughing at. I told her to watch this and we both laughed for about fifteen minutes together. What a incredible person an player. Great show guys !! Can't wait for part 2.
Awesome!! I don't recall seeing George doing a video this relaxed. All of the other vids seemed as if he was burned out which I get Seems like a truly nice dude and my 2nd favorite guitarist of all time (1st is the immortal EVH) since 1984. BTW Mr Page is right there at 3rd. probably cuz I was a teen in the 80s.
Cool to hear that he ditched the pedal board. I came to the same conclusion. Pedals can be fun as hell, but lets be really they aren't terribly necessary to make real music. I also feel they are very expensive, especially just to be used as a toy.
Marty at motor city is the best. Been dealing with him since I was 18 I’m now 51 he’s one of the best in the business. Only problem I got with Marty is every time I find out he’s got a old Marshall he tells me it’s promised to Dave Friedman or he’s sending to Dave for this or that . Lol..
I know he's a Spokane boy, but it's sad he hardly if at all ever plays around Washington State. I wish he would do a tour of casinos up in the PNW, like Little Creek or Lucky Eagle just to name two of them. Got to do a show with him when he left Dokken, supporting the first Mob Album, sure enjoy his ton re and style.
The LA band George mentions at 41.00ish that had magic and illusions and holograms was called "Sorcery" . They also starred in a Australian movie called "Stunt Rock"; horrid fabercobbled '70s movie, Charlies Angles with Band footage thrown in. Here is a link to the Sorcery clips..... oh so '70s th-cam.com/video/1taHkFPrORQ/w-d-xo.html Saw Dokken live for the first time opening for Judas Priest, George sounded good but Don's voice was so weak it was pretty embarrassing.
I bought the screaming demon pickup when it first came out circa 1990. It was dull and in the alder body ESP Haji I put it in also lifeless... that Super V pickup was much better not a lot of gain but it truly screamed shame you can't get it anymore
For a guy who says he doesn't know his electronics/engineering etc, Lynch is no small fry when he talks about the wall voltages, plate voltages and even biased his own amps. Still waiting for that next episode!
Warren is more linear, Lynch all over the place but they are very similar. How can you pick one ? Both are world class guitar players, with a knack for writing memorable solos.
Actually have heard from George word for word right before this show was taped, maybe the night before, new Bedford, greasy luck pub, fucking tone was massive, Robert Mason was amazing and so was Scott Coogan on drums, combined with Sean McNabb's background vocals the songs were spot on, but I had meet and greet tickets with my brother and I had driven 2 hours to get there and the street the club was on had fire trucks blocking us in on a 1 way street with nowhere to park, so we were 5 minutes late, street fighting man was playing and the girl up front was like Haha you guys missed the meet and greet like it was funny but it was the club having a fire drill and I talked to the bouncers and next thing you know were running up 6 flights of stairs and walked in a room with just the 4 band members, George was on his phone back to me and I walked up like, dude what's up bro! The band was awesome, grateful for us still coming out and George talked to me for a while and my brother asked him that question and he got the same answer verbatim
George is great. I don’t think he realizes just how highly people from my generation regard him as a guitar hero. Kudos to Mr. Scary.
Man, I'm binge watching all of these shows....great talent, great hosts....
Hearing the melody in your head is great advice for sure
Ive always wanted a tone like these 80s dudes. Sounds insanly good i love it
King George and King Edward.... 2 of the greatest guitar players of all time !!!? 🥰🤗❤

Alex Lifeson
Yup he is part of the big 3, Lynch told RR about Karl Sandoval and the guitars he builds, hence the polka dot V! GL is a great human being, I met him and he told me I sounded good! EVH would never say that
finally some one that knows the shit and has the same answer as myself with those guitarists -right on !!
BFahz - EVH, Randy, CC DeVille
Informative he spreads the mastery to everybody I'm drawn to him n Jerry Cantrell, like brother to me
We shall love him and hug him and squeeze him and call him George...
LOLOLOL awesoime
Not a bunny rabbit, George? Haha
George seems like such a grounded fine human being... honest and inspiring.. great episode fellas.
George, a master of sculpturing tone, (an amp collector, a guitar builder) proves that his endless search for the ultimate tone never ends, a pioneer of core musicianship, a humble gentleman and a true artist
Great show guys! George is one of the guitar players that i could listen to talk or play guitar all day. Get him on here again sometime.
Best interview ive ever viewed involving Mr Lynch. Loved it

George's quote about having too many effects in his signal chain"...It's like texting when you're driving" is brilliant! Love the show :O)
Loved how George was picking Dave's brain on the tech details of amps. Even someone as accomplished as George is still on the lookout for that one little tidbit that might help improve his tone. We can all relate!
My favorite show! This one was awesome because of his personality! Thanks for sharing!
I went to the Guitar Clinic in Waterford, Michigan last Thursday. Met George after the Clinic. Pictures and Autographs! Then the Concert Last Friday Night! George was on Fire even though he was Sick.

Yeah your not shitting. Listen I'm venom slayer obituary in later years like always loved dokken. Lynch is a great.
Thanks TONE TALK! What a great way to spend a couple hours... Truly enjoy this show..

George nailed it. Play what comes in your head as opposed to what reflex your fingers start off playing.!!!!!!😊
Great interview with a legend. Thanks so much. George seems like such a decent fellow.
it just keeps getting better like fine wine. Best channel on youtube!!
The "ever" evolving George Lynch.... and.... miles to go before he's done...
Thank you for the memories.... Hopefully this summer some shows!
What an awesome man...George is very interesting and funny...love his humor...excellent interview/show, guys...thank you!!! 💗💗💗
I didn't know much about George & for some reason thought he was a conservative solo guy from the 80s.
But this interview was so great; he's an awesome fellow.
Thanks, Marc & Dave.
What a tremendous show gentlemen! Thank you both!!!
.. such a cool laid back conversation.
Dave thank you so much for pick my question, this tone talk series make my days
Mr. SCARY......One of the most influential guitarists of the age .......
Thanks! Great show. I love nerding out to tech details in gear. George was a fun guest!
I have to say. There's been a lot of great Tone Talk Ep. but this one by far is my favorite. This was certainly a refreshing interview.

Part 2 must come guys, good stories and definitely need to finish up where George is after that stolen guitar story! Cheers!
This is such a great channel you have here. I just found it, and am looking forward to watching all of the shows.
best interview I've seen with george
Such an amazing player!!
awesome interview. George was a big influence. I know Dave agrees that Under Lock n Key was his greatest tone and playing
Awesome! Thanks Guys!
Cool show looking for part 2😎🤘👍
Thanks guys great show.
“There is so much you can do with your hands and the instrument”...nailed it.
This was so great! Thanks guys!
Great stuff. Watching it now - couldn't tune in on Tues. Keep up the great work as usual.
Sweet man thanks for the upload.
Great show!! Enjoyed the stories!!
What a awesome hang this is...🎸🎛🥁🍻😀
George Lynch bad ass guitarist 🎸🎸🎸🎸👍👍🍺🍺🇺🇸😁
Holy f**k I've just checked out Ultraphonix. What a band
Surfing With The Alien used a Boss pedal through a Roland JC120
Alan Mirikitani was BB Chung King and the Buddah Heads. Amazing player
This was great.
Did anybody have timestamps for when he talks about his gear in the 80s?
One version of the YBA1 had El34 tubes and ran at over 700v on the plates.
George is great. Totally into acquiring gear above anything else!! hahaha
George seems like a total amp guy for sure
I like Paul Pesco's guitar playing he was good with Madonna if you like that funky clean Strat sound.
That was great!!!
Love your show marc, do you think dave could show us who helps him in his shop, or is that a stupid question
I have some serious GAS for a Vintage V130, and the guitar at 1:26:12 damn near gave me heart palpitations.
Cool to hear that he ditched the pedal board. I came to the same conclusion. Pedals can be fun as hell, but lets be really they aren't terribly necessary to make real music. I also feel they are very expensive, especially just to be used as a toy.

I was looking at his stuff on Apple Music it’s labeled “ hair metal”
I wish he played more non vocal stuff on his CDs
I gotta drag out my 2 old Randall rg 100's circa 1984!! maby I'll line out my Soldana signal thru them?
What a cool guy 👍
I know he's a Spokane boy, but it's sad he hardly if at all ever plays around Washington State. These tone talk interviews are awesome
Thank you!!
George I don't know what to say man but I like the way you think
I was expecting the question about the Marshall S.I.R #39...
Kevin Costner's face keeps going on your voice tone face while me watching 👶🎤🙏👶🎤🙏
I got see George in this tiny little roadhouse club in Ohio about 10 years ago! Maybe 150 people crammed in! It was killer!
Awesomeness x22!
Jim dandyish...... love it!
400 Watt Hiwatt DR405 - 6 x KT88 :O)
George moving from randall to friedman amps?

I removed the Screamin' Demon pickup and put a JB in my early Haji. The guitar sounds so much better now.
Carl Popek built the Trainwreck clone that George has in the video
Someone needs to tell lynch to buy a better camera! lol
cool bloke
If LM was just starting out these days that name would be marched on.
would be a hoot if Jorgé revamped Lynch Mob with Dug Pinnick and Tony MacAlpine... would be the ultimate irony because they're Black
I mod my plexis and JCM800s to sound wooley and snorky.
Takes 43:05 till he talks about Dokken
Clinic 👶🎤🙏👶🎤🙏🖼️🩹🤕🥁🩹🤕🥁
Time for the guests to get high speed service or ditch Skype. Painful, like watching the Bob Rock interview. Sorry to bitch. Love the show!
That stolen guitar story is insane. Breaking Bad kind of crap. Part 2 please. 🎸🤘🏻
For a guy who says he doesn't know his electronics/engineering etc, Lynch is no small fry when he talks about the wall voltages, plate voltages and even biased his own amps.
Still waiting for that next episode!
*Who's better, Warren de Martini or George?*
playing wise both guitarists are from the same side of the tracks...
Apples or oranges? Chevy or ford? Tacos or egg rolls? ......
Warren is more linear, Lynch all over the place but they are very similar. How can you pick one ? Both are world class guitar players, with a knack for writing memorable solos.
Mr Scary Lynch for me✌️

I grew up in Canada...Traynor...nobody wanted. Horrible...just my ear preference
They don't know wood don't do shit on electric guitars it's all pickups and some hardware
No one asked about the modded Bogner behind him 🤦🏼♂️
