Facts. I don't think people should compare it to the F90. They're way different. Let's appreciate the previous gen for what it is ( Pure performance car ) while this is a modernized F60 with a hybrid motor to help make it more suitable as a daily while keeping the power of the M car.
~180kg (~10%) increase is justifible with AWD, extra power of S58 engine and torque converter to handle the extra torque, plus the comfort functions and wider front tire. Most importantly, G82 is faster. ~500kg (~25%) increase but slower is another story. 2.46t is the league of RR21. Keep in mind that G12 M760i weights 2.3t, with a massive V12, 2 alternators, 3 12V batteries and loads of default comfort and entertainment options.
Sadly car companies nearly have no choice to have big engines without batteries(hybrid), but new m5 just looks like fat bmw that ate up whole pallet of marshmellow
Look at mercedes.. its 200% temu😂 i really like that the new light bar. Looks really solid! And quality and bmw is like🤝🏻. Audi, Merc and other quality is getting worse.. but bmws is still very nice. For eyes and fingers.
Honestly, the whole interior does. That bland styling with the tacked on screen looks cheap as hell. Personally, I prefer an RS6 interior over this 1000% of the time. Both have their climate controls in a screen which is total BS, but at least the screens on the RS6 look integrated into the interior design... not like this monstrosity.

For the first time ever as a BMW lover of M5 series, I'm kinda left disappointed. F90 was the last of the beautiful body lines and heart throbbing performance! Great video overall👌🏾

Have to test it myself. I rode passenger in an M8 Competition and you could absolutely tell it weighed 1900+ kg. Especially in the corner speeds and the amount of brake pedal force needed to slow it down. Difficulty believing it is not the same in the much heavier M5..... but who knows. Maybe BMW did find a magic wand to mask the weight.
Nothing better than going almost as fast as 16 year old cars, while having less room in the back seats and your braking distance being questionable at such speeds

All are complaining about the weight and stuff. Maybe 1% will take it on a ride at a Race Track. 99% will use it as daily at the Autobahn and stuff. And it`s performing well. The car has a 0,5% tax in the end and definitely hitting it`s target group. Take a economic view, BMW nailed it with the car.

I've heard "they hid the weight incredibly well" or things like that so many times, yet I've never felt that myself...heavy cars always felt heavy. It'd be great if this really is an exception, but until I drive one I'll remain unconvinced. One area it's impossible to hide weight: tyres. They'll heat and wear quicker, sure the new tyres might be great, but stick those same tyres on a car half the weight and they'll wear and heat half as quickly, obviously. However, I do find the styling somewhat OK in this colour - and the touring rear end looks pretty good. The interior & ergonomics...well they stuck dumbo ear buttons on the wheel yet couldn't put the seat controls on buttons. Those aren't deal-breakers, but they are a bit silly. The big question for me is: why wouldn't you just buy an M3?
Agreed, weight will always be weight. You cant hide or change that no matter what youre working with. Big cars like these will suffer massively on anything other than a dragstrip. Especially the wear on the tires.
@@Z4G. It might set good lap times, I'm sure they'll have benchmarked it against the previous gen since it can't be slower than a base F90 for marketing reasons, surely. Still, I drive a 308 GTi, it's slower (and worse in many ways). It's also less than half the weight of this and the handling balance is unbelievable when pushed. I test drove a 992 C4S last month and it felt a bit heavy compared to the Pug, so I can only imagine how this G90 feels. (I was really comparing the C4S to my 981CS rather than the Pug, I'm crazy but not *that* crazy 😄)

As a old F90 M5 comp LCI owner, I do not think I will buy this one. I am driving AMG GTR now. But to be honest I miss F90 M5 comp. Wish It could be a little less sleeper.

To be fair Bentley made first the miracle of agile handling on a heavy car with the Continental GT. Regarding to the M5 (lack of?) sound, I do prefer this setup: loud exhaust is for the joy of those who are outside of the cabin, and this way you (driver) just hear the "real sound", the engine note, and it's indeed a nice V8 tone to enjoy.

Because of EU regulations. Even the top speed of modern holy trinity(F80, W1 & the upcoming Porsche V8 supercar) have same top speed as the old ones(P1, 918 & LaFerrari).

The current 5-series HAS to be a Touring. The back looks too funky on the sedan, but the wagon really hits the spot. Just a shame the rear diffuser is so chunky, it ruins the look (not that it was a looker in the first place). Also sucks that the window on the trunk hatch no longer opens on the G61/G99, that was what made Tourings unique.

I got an opportunity to look at the new G90 in detail in the BMW showroom. The exterior looks like a generically designed sports car for the Chinese market. The practicality once F90 had is now lost because trunk space is reduced by 63 litres in order to accommodate the hybrid battery and the active suspension system. The quality of the interior is lower than F90. Seats feel cheaper than the previous generation sports seats now having fewer adjustment points. At the bottom of the door is a hard-pack plastic with no felt padding, while F90 had a soft-touch plastic with the padding from the inside. Plastic on the console looks and feels as it is of lower quality than F90 generation. As for the 2,5 ton weight, it may not be a problem as long as the wheels have traction because the active suspension system can compensate the roll and make the heavy car stable, but if the traction is lost eg. on a wet curvy B road, the innertion could make the situation uncontrollable and pose a large risk of crashing. I was already in such a situation with a couple of other heavy car models. The slide caught me by surprise, and I barely avoided a total crash.
If the car actually drives that well, how much better would it drive if the car had at least 2.2 tons? I can't wait to see the new M5 without the battery and how much it will weigh

My Favorite M5 is the F10 and the E60 ,it is surprising for me that I actually somehow like this M5 too. Not as much as the older ones but it still has something and about the the weight we don’t even have to argue that this car is heavy.

However, I do find the styling somewhat OK in this colour - and the touring rear end looks pretty good. The interior & ergonomics...well they stuck dumbo ear buttons on the wheel yet couldn't put the seat controls on buttons. Those aren't deal-breakers, but they are a bit silly.
The big question for me is: why wouldn't you just buy an M3?
Agreed, weight will always be weight. You cant hide or change that no matter what youre working with. Big cars like these will suffer massively on anything other than a dragstrip. Especially the wear on the tires.
@@Z4G. It might set good lap times, I'm sure they'll have benchmarked it against the previous gen since it can't be slower than a base F90 for marketing reasons, surely.
Still, I drive a 308 GTi, it's slower (and worse in many ways). It's also less than half the weight of this and the handling balance is unbelievable when pushed. I test drove a 992 C4S last month and it felt a bit heavy compared to the Pug, so I can only imagine how this G90 feels.
(I was really comparing the C4S to my 981CS rather than the Pug, I'm crazy but not *that* crazy 😄)

@@Porkycheun To be fair I think that's just lazy driving, you can't really judge a car based on where the driver puts it, without seeing how the tyres and suspension are responding to the inputs.

Regarding to the M5 (lack of?) sound, I do prefer this setup: loud exhaust is for the joy of those who are outside of the cabin, and this way you (driver) just hear the "real sound", the engine note, and it's indeed a nice V8 tone to enjoy.

E60 still king, aftermarket exhaust and you have a sound reminiscent of old F1 days. V10 beats hybrid all day, every day
Bro the E60 is soooo slow compared to everything that came after, both in straight line and cornering wise. Stop glorifying it just because it sounds amazing. It surely does, but even the engine is a ticking time bomb.

Because of EU regulations. Even the top speed of modern holy trinity(F80, W1 & the upcoming Porsche V8 supercar) have same top speed as the old ones(P1, 918 & LaFerrari).
A newer car shouldn't always be faster than the latest generation.

The current 5-series HAS to be a Touring. The back looks too funky on the sedan, but the wagon really hits the spot. Just a shame the rear diffuser is so chunky, it ruins the look (not that it was a looker in the first place). Also sucks that the window on the trunk hatch no longer opens on the G61/G99, that was what made Tourings unique.
Touring looks better but it's still a pretty slick car. Since it's already quite bulky, there is no need for a wide bodykit.
@@nikitamarynich1794 Definitely is, I still don't like the front too much but the rest does honestly look quite cool. I've been seeing G60 almost daily since the i5 came out so I've gotten quite used to seeing them around.
I got an opportunity to look at the new G90 in detail in the BMW showroom. The exterior looks like a generically designed sports car for the Chinese market. The practicality once F90 had is now lost because trunk space is reduced by 63 litres in order to accommodate the hybrid battery and the active suspension system.
The quality of the interior is lower than F90. Seats feel cheaper than the previous generation sports seats now having fewer adjustment points. At the bottom of the door is a hard-pack plastic with no felt padding, while F90 had a soft-touch plastic with the padding from the inside. Plastic on the console looks and feels as it is of lower quality than F90 generation.
As for the 2,5 ton weight, it may not be a problem as long as the wheels have traction because the active suspension system can compensate the roll and make the heavy car stable, but if the traction is lost eg. on a wet curvy B road, the innertion could make the situation uncontrollable and pose a large risk of crashing. I was already in such a situation with a couple of other heavy car models. The slide caught me by surprise, and I barely avoided a total crash.

My Favorite M5 is the F10 and the E60 ,it is surprising for me that I actually somehow like this M5 too. Not as much as the older ones but it still has something and about the the weight we don’t even have to argue that this car is heavy.
