    Excellent review, thanks! I just ordered the stereo set from Sweetwater. Will use them as combination computer speakers and mini bass amp specifically to play along with bass tutorials. I think it will be as close to perfect as is possible right now.

    Nice review. Great for a small practice amp. Still waiting for Blackstar to produce full size bass gigging amps, though. Their guitar amps are fantastic!

    • @TheBassChannel
      @TheBassChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Robert Gee A full-size bass rig would be great. For a little 3-watt, 3" amp, this thing has some pretty good tones. Putting a mic on it was a funny sight, though. Mostly due to the mic being the same size as the speaker.

      You're in luck now. The Blackstar UNITY Pro bass amplifiers should be hitting the streets this month. 30W all the way to 500W with an active 250W cabinet also. They look and sound pretty sweet. Lots of features also.

    So, I'm interested in the bass you were holding under tour arm when you were talking. It looks like an Epiphone nonreverse thunderbird bass. I have one and there is only one professional demo from a German music store demoing an amp. Can you demo that bass even if just to highlight an amp?

    • @TheBassChannel

    I already have the standard Fly 3 & extension cab (guitar player). I noticed that the ext cab for bass is same (says Blackstar) except for color of grill, which makes me wonder if regular Fly 3 would be safe to use for bass too (I have a pandora box that has bass effects & all that I could put ahead, as eq etc different on std fly from bass fly). Any one help me out? Thanks

    • @Samuel-iu9sq
      @Samuel-iu9sq 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Laurance Emory I wouldnt do it bass amps are meant to handle the lower frequencies from.the bass a bass in a guitar amp will destroy your amp don't do it

    • @lauranceemory4448
      @lauranceemory4448 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will try it low volume, but hope you get my point that if ext cab same for both regular and bass, (and speaker looks the same) perhaps only diff is amp features (comp, etc). Another Q would have to do regarding using Fly 3 as computer speaker, where it has to reproduce bass notes on mp3's and all that.... hmmm

    • @damiansim2730
      @damiansim2730 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      this is what blackstar told me:
      "The FLY 103 extension cabinet and the FLY BASS 103 are exactly the same in terms of speaker and internal configuration.
      The only difference between the FLY 103 and FLY BASS 103 is the aesthetic element - FLY 103 being in line with the regular FLY 3, and not the grey grille featured on the FLY BASS.
      Please note; the FLY BASS 103 cabinet is only available as part of the FLY BASS Pack, and is not sold separately."

    I think something has to control more than one frequency band to really be an EQ. I guess a parametric EQ technically only has one band as well, but the hole point is that you can move that one band around to cover different frequency ranges. It's weird to see something with just a mid control. Good review though.

    I play a 5-string and wonder how this amp with its "SUB' adjustment would handle the lower frequency of a 5th string? Amp reviews seldom consider how the amp performs at the lower frequencies for a 5 or 7-string. '

      11 months late but I would reccomend the Roland Bass Cube RX. seen being performed with here: th-cam.com/video/HJq-6y2IYEQ/w-d-xo.html
      Has a wattage of 2.5 + 2.5w
      Im using this thing in real life and it rumbles the life around you. Like there is some hefty Low end on those 4 tiny 10cm speakers and it really surprises you with how loud it can get. I could use this for Pub gigs tbh. even more perfect for Busking.
      comes with an integrated rhythm box, tuner, EQ controls, compressor button, various tone presets and effects built in such as Octave, Flanger, Chorus, T-wah, Reverb and Delay.
      Uses the same batteries as the Blackstar here which is 6 AA Batteries and has a total run time of 11 hours of continuous use battery life. the life of which shortens with how much you stack effects whilst using it.
      You can tell how low on battery it is if the sound starts distorting.
      Downside. its near Quadruple the price of the Blackstar 3 Bass.
      Theres always the option to daisy chain the Blackstar Amps. but its up to you!

    Sure it sounds great when you mic the amp. No offence but this is not demonstrating it"s natural volume. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of this video. I already have 25 watt and 200 watt amplifiers. Thanks for the heads up on the features!
    .

    • @derekmok
      @derekmok 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      > Sure it sounds great when you mic the amp.
      If you don't mic the amp, it sounds a lot worse than it does when you hear it in person. Even now, this hardly sounds "great" -- it's crackly and buzzy, as you'd expect when such a small speaker tries to handle low end. They're doing the right thing by trying to record it with as little ambient noise and as much note definition as possible, so that it doesn't sound worse than it actually is.
