Fellow club member here seeing the original interview. Never seen the parody sketch until now, it's better than the original but then I never liked the sex pistols, always felt the urge to bull my boots on sid and John's faces😂

This is like performance art. It's amazing. There's a sense of unreality about it, especially Bridget Christie's Siouxsie.
Yes, a sort of dreamlike quality about how her lines come out, Rotten also.

I had to Google him, remember him from back in the day. I thought the Johnny Rotten actor was Joe Lo Truglio aka Charles from Brooklyn 99.
He was too wacky for the BBC. They preferred the god awful Watson and Oliver.
This performance was mind-blowing; the level of accuracy to the original Bill Grundy Today Show far surpasses anything else I've ever seen. If I just listen to this without viewing the video portion -- it's nearly spot on -- all the way down to the inflections. Uncanny!!

I haven't watched Pistol because, frankly, it looks like shit (I'm not a Sex Pistols fan or precious about the band in any way-I quite like PiL though). Though I might be tempted by Kevin Eldon's presence!

Eldon is hit and miss but this is in the top 10 moments of comedy genius. World over. All time.

He's got Rotten's expression spot on, i saw the original at the time, my mum said 'that Bill Grundy provoked that young lad (Rotten) into saying that' ! She allowed me to play my punk records and later guitar, as long as it was before 9pm. Good old mum. 😊

As a 14 year old watching the original interview with a sandwich (cheese and pan yan pickle on Hovis) hanging in mid air with my mouth open, I can confirm the accuracy of this parody - It was such an important, life changing moment (in my subsequent music, cultural and lifestyle choices) that I remember it like it was yesterday.
When I was in the US on an east coast roadtrip back in the 80s I visited Intercourse, Pa. to see if it lived up to it's name.
It didn't.
No action at all.

Kevin Eldon’s Johnny Rotten is spot on and Bridget Christie as Siouxie is hilarious though lacks the braces and the Bobby Ball pose Siouxie adopted just before Matt Berry as Steve went off on his tirade.

Remember seeing this on the BBC years ago, the joke of course being that the Amish don't drink, smoke, swear, etc., so makes it that much funnier. The soundtrack is the original with the actors miming, and doing it very well. A great watch.
The soundtrack is not the original, although they are following identical dialogue. You can tell it’s not the original soundtrack when Matt Berry does his “what a fuckin rotter” line - it’s clearly Berry’s voice and it’s delivered slightly differently to Steve Jones’ original. But still a brilliant idea.

For those who’ve watched the original then this hope you can see the respect paid to the attitudes of John, Steve and Siouxsie towards the antagonist, brilliantly played by ace mimic and actor, Peter Serafinowicz. Matt Berry holding back the bluster of his favourite characters, to great effect.
