The reason delete clip was not allowed for a long time is because the recording codecs were so demanding and media to record them so temperamental that by simply shifting a drive from sequential writing to random writing would literally cause the media to stop functioning until it was reformatted due to the speed impact it had in the drives performance. Almost every time a person came onto a forum and complained that their drive stopped working it often turned out they had been treating their media record drive as a regular drive and edited their project on it resulting in lots of random files and clips put on the drive, and all it took was one split or non sequential file to make the drive unusable. So people need to be aware that while deleting clips should be okay on newer media, if one has a very old drive I would test if it still functions in the desired recording format after deleting a file before doing this out on a shoot.
Good things come to those who wait. In all seriousness, I don't know how long these developments take, the amount of money and people required to make them, or the focus of BMD at any given time. Yet, I'm grateful.
I honestly given up on ever having the ability to delete clips. You’re so right we don’t know what goes into their business practices or their R&D workflow. So I am just going to take this W and run with it.
Awesome review James. I realize that this is off topic, but I must say that the downside to the Blackmagic line of cameras is that the autofocus is so week. Yes, historically, filmmakers employ focus pulling, but in this day in age with autofocus having become so prominent, effective and common in the Canon, Sony, and Nikon line (just to name a few) the very week autofucus of the Blackmagic line is unfortunate. As an independent filmmaker and solo operator, I rely on ease of use, and sadly, this is why I got out of the Blackmagic line of cameras years ago-otherwise, Blackmagic is an incredible value. Again, thanks for an excellent review.
Hey man. Thank you for your comments. And I totally get your decision. At the end of the day you have to choose the tools that work best for your situation. And everyone’s line of work is different. I think we just need to be grateful that there’s such a plethora of options that fit so many different types of filmmakers and content creators.
This is dope!!! I will do the update when I get home. Sony also has their update for the A7IV and A7siii this morning, which I took care of this morning.
Full frame exists now and variable nd is not Even good since causes discoloration and a weird x shadow. Get water glass hard stop filters instead . Tiffen has them
@@EthanShaoDP so there’s no image stabilization in camera. You can only get stabilization through a lens that has it or you stabilize it in post. And the 18-35 doesn’t have IS in it.
Peace James. I hope all is well and elevated. How do you connect the camera to the internet? I want to send clips to the cloud. Could you or anybody help a brother out to do this? I have the 6K Pro (8.6) and 6K FF(8.7). Thanks
Yes very much so. Sometimes I have to deliver the raw unedited footage to my clients and the ability to get rid of the bad shots before delivery as well as save space when you know you’re not going to use specific footage is something I would want to have. Plus this is very basic at this point in camera products.
I am not familiar with blackmagic cloud but from what I can tell there’s no direct way to upload clips to your phone. You would still have to send them to a cloud sharing platform and download them from there.
Mostly manual. There is a single AF button you can use to get in a subject focus but the system is contrast base and not always the most reliable. So long story short only shoot manual on BM cameras.
What are your thoughts on this new update?

When I updated my Bmpc4k, all of my presets, luts, etc. did not get erased like in past updates. Just my experience.
same here

The hype on the clips page... I felt that. Cant believe it took this long
My man, your reaction was priceless. Purchased the 6K full frame a few months ago, but have not used it yet. This update looks legit.👍
Thank you for the comment
The run to the chair 🤣. This a good update!!!!!! So happy about the media manager and the ability to upload to Blackmagic cloud.
lol yeah had to turn the camera on real quick.
To be honest, lack of deleting files from the camera was a major bummer. Claiming that it was for a cinema type of the 6K Pro was ridiculous.
Factsssss

Happy for the Sony shooters. Glad their feedback and push back on Sony is finally paying off.
You should be an actor, I was thrilled when you announced the feature of deleting the files...
Thanks. I am glad that you enjoyed it.
i am not gonna lie i think i am gonna cry
Now all I need is a true updated cinema body with a full frame sensor and a variable ND (Im asking for way to much I know) and im set.
Full frame exists now and variable nd is not Even good since causes discoloration and a weird x shadow. Get water glass hard stop filters instead . Tiffen has them
Gyro is really important. Hopefully they give us the real stuff this time.
Updated to 8.6 public beta on my pocket 4k. I'm having trouble turning on the image stablization in the settings. Has anyone else run into this issue?
What lenses are you using?

is the quality over usb c better than hdmi?
Not that I see in fact, I think HDMI is still better
On the WebCam function it doesn’t look like The on board LUT is included in the output
I turned the output LUT off. So that’s on me.
Does this also mean we can finally preview still images? 🤔
Do you need to download other updates or can you just update the new firmware?
You can just download the latest update.
Wait, 13 years... didn't the first camera technically release in 2012 but wasn't really massively available until 2013?
very well. I miss spoke. It's still over a 10 years for this update 😀lol
Do you really want to delete clips though?

Chris is onto something... U should never delete clips in body.
lol nice entrance!
New update doesn’t allow record function from DJI RS2 Gimbal! Had to downgrade!! 🤦🏾♂️
Full frame lineup? I thought they only had one full-frame camera?
Can you upload clips to your iPhone
I am not familiar with blackmagic cloud but from what I can tell there’s no direct way to upload clips to your phone. You would still have to send them to a cloud sharing platform and download them from there.
Is the focus automatic or manual?

did fix autoforcus?
Autofocus is still only single shot no continuous
can you delete multiple clips at once?
Yes you can
the web cam looks nice
We want autofocus mannnmm ..
Well no need anymore with the Focus Pro from DJI. In camera AF now dead lmao
Bro, are you crying? oh its sweat. carry on.
*in Loki’s voice* a bit of both
You don't want to delete clips in the body.... Go ahead do it, and then let me know when ur media starts to act up. I would NOT recommend doing that.
I’ve done it before constantly on Canon cameras. But I appreciate the concern.
Do not update your camera on 8.6. Problem with panoramic video. Sticks.
How about af
Blackmagic cameras don’t have continuous AF. So I wouldn’t be looking this way if serious AF is what you need.
