I'm sure there's a literary term for it, but there's a technique that goes way back in scifi/satiric writing that projects stereotypes into the future and greatly exaggerates them. You can see echoes of it in some modern dystopian scifi where civilization devolves into exaggerated tribes of people.

I don't know if other commenters I mention this, but the predators typically don't attack anyone who's unarmed. It's not so much a matter of whether the person is a good guy or a bad guy. in the previous movie, when the prisoner lady picks up the gun, Arnold knocks it out of her hand. If I'm not mistaken, he yells daddy didn't attack her because she wasn't armed. Even in this movie, the reason the predator didn't kill that little kid is because it realized that was a fake gun, and not a real one.

Yes, the predators in the two films were different. The one in the first film was younger and had been sent down on a solo hunting expedition to prove it could both survive alone on Earth until it was picked up and earn trophies while it was there. It set off its bomb when it was defeated in order to keep its technology out of anyone else's hands. If it had done well, it would have earned its place on a hunting team like the one in this film. The predator in this film was 'taking its turn' so to speak. The ship brought a full hunting expedition to LA, which is a much larger hunting ground than they normally go to as well as being a huge city with a wealth of targets to choose from. It wasn't being a good guy by targeting the drug runners, it was attacking what it perceived to be the most powerful targets in its hunting area. This is also why it attacked the Columbian cartel guys as a group. The reason it didn't attack Mike on the roof is that it watched him doing his rescue of the other cops: Exerting dominance against them as the predator views things. This made Mike into a prize trophy for it to take on, but it had other targets to deal with first. Danny was killed because he was recovering a piece of the predator's technology. Jerry was killed because he had placed himself as defender of the remaining civilians, which made him not only a 'legal' target but a valuable one as a trophy. While the predators will gladly take out whole groups of armed enemies, they only take trophies from those they kill one on one and view as worthy foes. This is usually because the person had somehow distinguished themselves through an act of strength or bravery (Mike with his rescue of the injured cops, Jerry by placing himself as the lone defender of the others in the train to cover their escape). Leona was a valid target but her unborn child was not, which you both noted was why she was spared. Keys and his team had an overall great plan that would likely have worked except for two factors: They forgot to factor in that the predator would have technology that might extend its vision beyond just heat, and they weren't thinking like hunters. The first thing that tipped the predator off about the trap was the mist they were using to counter its invisibility. The predator noticed the change to its feeding grounds and became cautious. Then it heard the team moving around and switched its helmet to detect ultraviolet light. Mike was allowed to live because he defeated one of their own in single combat and because he didn't try to keep the weapon he used. His victory earned him one of the Elder's own trophies as a reward, but it didn't earn him any warmth or consideration beyond that (which is why they didn't care if he was still on the ship when they left).

When the Predator (Grey Back) gave Mike the pistol and said “take it” it was a call back to when it was first on earth hunting, and temporarily teamed up with a human to fight off, pirates before turning the faced human for a fight, but got robbed of his prize when the human he wanted to kill got killed by one of the Pirates.. Rafael Adeline who was the pirate captain gave the Predator his pistol with his dying breath, saying take it

If you all haven’t seen it already, the Steven Seagal action flick Marked For Death also prominently features Jamaicans, also somewhat negatively unfortunately, but the accents are much more authentic and they actually go to Jamaica in the movie. The city Predator wasn't on anyone's side. He only killed those who were worthy kills. Meaning, they were armed. The cops and the Jamaicans were all armed. Predator didn't kill the naked girl in the studio apartment because she was not a threat. She wasn't armed. The gang members and the civilians on the subway were also all armed. The Predators are a Hunting class society. They come to Earth for "Safari", to hunt the most dangerous animal on the planet; Man. If you remember from the first movie, the Predator does not kill unarmed people; No Sport.
This predator is actually younger than the one from the first one, hence his more rash and impulsive behavior. The elder predator of that clan rewarded him with that ancient weapon because Mike defeated that predator fairly, which they honor by letting him live.
The Yautja (Predator) hunt anyone or anything that might pose a challenge or a threat, the girl posed neither, so she was spared! The criminals were armed, and had expressed a penchant for violence, so he killed them! This isn't really any different than the first movie.
arnold didnt want to do sequels thats why he's not in this but danny glover is one of my fav actors and killed it in this role, he's great in lethal weapon with mel gibson idk if you have seen those movies yet but they are classics.

The theory is that Predators come once every 10 years. The first movie was 1987. The sequel takes place in 1997 even though it was filmed in like 90 or 91. -OG
So, if you're continuing the Predator series, there's a point where part of the series got altered and retconned. Originally, the series in order was Predator, Predator 2, Alien vs Predator, Alien vs Predator 2, Predators, and The Predator. But with the release of the most recent movie, Prey, it changes the timeline and omits several films. The current main line of films that can be considered cannon now is Predator, Predator 2, Predators, and Prey.
I enjoyed your reaction. I think the predators only target earthly warriors to hunt. The criminals and the cops and the soldiers (from the last movie) were observed to have weapons and engage in battle. The little boy in the cemetery had a gun but the predator analyzed it as being a toy. So he accepted the candy and left him, lol.

There was stuff that was cut from the movie including about the police woman being married and hinting that she might be expecting. Also on why predators killing the bad guys, the predator main objective is to hunt the deadliest species on Earth on the hottest area for sport. And deadly, crazy gun welding criminals ( and policemen) in the L.A heat is the perfect hunting. Fun fact: the movie came out in 1991 predicted the increasing heat temperature and crime of Los Angeles in 1997.

Popular opinion is that this Predator was younger and less experienced, so was more reckless. Also for context, notice that the movie reality was set a few years after the film actually came out, so was meant to depict “the future” 😁
The Predator's have at least a twisted sense of honor. They only attack and kill and hunt those that are armed, those that would be worthy of being a trophy. They don't just randomly kill anyone they encounter.

HEEYYYY! 1990, the year the Jamaicans almost took over L.A. haha. Steven Seagal also battled them in Marked for Death in 1990..I don't know why. This film is like a mixture of Predator, Aliens and Robocop. There was a lot of weird movies that year.

The pistol was to show that the Predator species has been around a long time, and live for a long time. The original concept for a third movie would be the ancient Predator during the 1700s. Instead, it was made into a comic. An Alien vs Predator script was also made taking place during the time of Aliens, but would have been too expensive to make.
You gotta realize that this movie came out about the same time as Terminator 2. About 1991. Which is one of the reasons why Arnold wasn't in this film. He can't shoot 2 films at the same time. I saw this with my dad as a little kid, like 10 years old and I remember asking him what that white stuff was they were rubbing everywhere. This man tells me it's gripping powder like you use to lift weights, I guess to hold their guns more firm, Lol. Where did they get those weapons? This is America, you can buy stockpiles of weapons like that legally, no background check depending on what city or town. Hell yea! I don’t recommend you watch all the predator movies, I would say the next one to watch is Predators from 2010, after that Prey from 2022. Those are probably the best ones in the franchise besides 1 and 2. Alien vs Predator movies are okay, but The Predator from 2018 is very bad in my opinion. The Predators are a Hunting class society. They come to Earth for "Safari", to hunt the most dangerous animal on the planet; Man. If you remember from the first movie, the Predator does not kill unarmed people; No Sport.

This predator is actually younger than the one from the first one, hence his more rash and impulsive behavior. The elder predator of that clan rewarded him with that ancient weapon because Mike defeated that predator fairly, which they honor by letting him live.

The theory is that Predators come once every 10 years. The first movie was 1987. The sequel takes place in 1997 even though it was filmed in like 90 or 91. -OG

But with the release of the most recent movie, Prey, it changes the timeline and omits several films. The current main line of films that can be considered cannon now is Predator, Predator 2, Predators, and Prey.

I enjoyed your reaction. I think the predators only target earthly warriors to hunt. The criminals and the cops and the soldiers (from the last movie) were observed to have weapons and engage in battle. The little boy in the cemetery had a gun but the predator analyzed it as being a toy. So he accepted the candy and left him, lol.

the 2022 Prey is a Predator that shows how the Predator got the gun that they gave Mike.
There was stuff that was cut from the movie including about the police woman being married and hinting that she might be expecting. Also on why predators killing the bad guys, the predator main objective is to hunt the deadliest species on Earth on the hottest area for sport. And deadly, crazy gun welding criminals ( and policemen) in the L.A heat is the perfect hunting.
Fun fact: the movie came out in 1991 predicted the increasing heat temperature and crime of Los Angeles in 1997.

The Predator's have at least a twisted sense of honor. They only attack and kill and hunt those that are armed, those that would be worthy of being a trophy. They don't just randomly kill anyone they encounter.
The predator doesn't care about good guys or bad guys - just good fighters - it wants a challenge ... that's why the girl was left alone - she wasn't armed.
They are trophy hunters - but they have rules and they respect the skills of those they hunt.
You should check out Prey - it's the latest Predator movie and it is a really good one - set in the past ...
Guys you still don't understand the predator and what makes him tick. He has no problem killing women. He's a hunter. That's it, that's all. He hunts for the same reason humans hunt but he has rules. And humans also take trophies. The hunt was between that one predator and Mike. Mike won. He got a trophy. That's it. They choose only those they deem worthy. Also go back to that wall of skulls and REALLY look at it. You shoild have noticed something that was pretty special and exciting when we all saw it. That gun that Mike got will come back to play in a later movie of you continue. Keep watching and you will learn more and more about the predators and their world. Watch in order they came out and continue with aliens too. Go back to that skull wall scene and look at ALL the skulls on that wall. It's a must!

The pistol was to show that the Predator species has been around a long time, and live for a long time. The original concept for a third movie would be the ancient Predator during the 1700s. Instead, it was made into a comic. An Alien vs Predator script was also made taking place during the time of Aliens, but would have been too expensive to make.

You gotta realize that this movie came out about the same time as Terminator 2. About 1991. Which is one of the reasons why Arnold wasn't in this film. He can't shoot 2 films at the same time.

I saw this with my dad as a little kid, like 10 years old and I remember asking him what that white stuff was they were rubbing everywhere. This man tells me it's gripping powder like you use to lift weights, I guess to hold their guns more firm, Lol. This movie also started the trend of revealing more about the Predator species that would carry over into future films and expanded media like comics and video games. Where did they get those weapons? This is America, you can buy stockpiles of weapons like that legally, no background check depending on what city or town. I would have loved if after he said "it must have been the Jamaicans" that killed all those dudes after the Predator showed up to go "what did the Jamaicans use, a Lazer beam"? And no, none of them dudes was Jamaicans, them knee-grows was from Oakland

Hell yea! I don’t recommend you watch all the predator movies, I would say the next one to watch is Predators from 2010, after that Prey from 2022. Those are probably the best ones in the franchise besides 1 and 2. Alien vs Predator movies are okay, but The Predator from 2018 is very bad in my opinion. Either way, the choice is yours and I hope to see you continue to react to these! I’m especially excited to see your reaction to Prey, it’s so good!
Before you watch Predator 3, watch Prey (2022). It fits in with the ending when the Predator gives him the old pistol.
