Matt...I flew your route from Alpine down to Henderson last weekend in the L-39C in MSFS 2020 and it's amazing how close the sim looks to real life. This is very cool!
I picked up that L-39 just recently, hence why I was searching TH-cam. Just a great aircraft to play in in VR. Plus it's believable to be a private pilot in one, so feels more authentic. Default cockpit is close to this model as well.
I have no doubt that your videos are inspiring so many people to fly. That's what we need. We need people to fall in love with aviation again. I love your videos Matt, keep them coming.
Hey Matt, what a great and inspiring video, again I must say! As a young pilot myself, you’re showing me motivation in everyone of your videos! Thank you !
I have flown over, but never landed, in Alpine on my long student solo cross country from KLGU-KIDA-KJAC-KLGU (three states) and that route is high, mountainous, and beautiful. I am glad my CFI approved that route even though it was kind of crazy in hindsight. One of these days I hope to make it up into the flight levels.
Great flying it’s good to see someone on TH-cam. That actually knows how to fly a plane. I’ve been flying since I was 15 i have an SR22 turbo. With 1400 hours Gen 4 and many hours in Baron G 58 and DA 42 and several hours in right seat on a mustange I just turn 60 and appreciate your love for the art of flying!!! Andrew Sirota
This has to be one of the best aviation videos ever. Even if it were only the first minutes before the plane leaves ground, it is overwhelmingly beautiful. And that's just the beginning.
Great to see you having fun in the jet! I'm sure there's plenty of us living vicariously thru you. I would for sure do aileron rolls every time I went up too!! So cool!
Might want to tighten your starboard pitot tube. I have the same on my L29...need to ensure it is screwed down tight. Check your video from the takeoff.
@Matt Guthmiller "Ridiculously impractical" LOL!!!!! The L39 is just an AWESOME aircraft!!! There are a bunch of guys that fly them out of Georgetown, Tx. and one day I will get my ride and some stick time. I was tickled to see a Garmin 430W in the dash! I love it! I love your content, keep it coming!
I wrote another article about you. This time about you and your jet in Wyoming, and talked about you on my Wyoming talk radio show. That caused Cowboy State Daily to call you, it seems. YER WELCOME MATT! I hope to get out and meet you in person at some point. Loving the videos. I'm jealous of the jet but I bet my 172 could beat it in a fair fight. (Probably not).
SO cool! I first heard of you from the Fun For Louis series with the round the world flight. Since then I've gotten my PPL and started my own channel as well. This video was awesome.
That scenery was absolutely stunning. I will have to fly out to Wyoming someday. Your takeoff out of Alpine looked like you were going closer to 200 not 90. Stunning.
you should mount like a camera pod on the bottom so you can have a guy on the seat behind you use it like a manual jet surveillance drone. and if you can you should mount "drop" tanks (obviously that you cant drop) to increase range
Way to go Maverick, lol, this was awesome. This has been one of my favorite and dream aircrafts to try and get one DREAM day. I Would pay GOOD money I DON'T HAVE to have this experience or the experience period to fly in an L-39, especially for an acrobatic flight. Love the videos, keep them up, and if you ever have pity for someone wanting to go up on a flight, I'll be here to accept a pity flight. LOL
A wonderful day in the sky! Great to tag along from the couch at home. How do you stay warm in the L39? Is it heated inside? I loved flying in winter, but it was freezing with not much heat in my plane.
What an awesome day of flying…. I can feel the excitement from here….. thanks for sharing….. surprised to see you flying the MU-2 from the right seat…… Awesome…..
Hi Matt: how do you calculate balanced field length on your jet. I noticed Alpine is 5847 long. How do the abort speed and distance work out in the L39. Thanks. MM.
300 to 400kts in one plane to 80kts in the next. Bet that takes some getting used to? That L39 is a real sweet ride. Bet it makes for a great snow blower too LOL.
What's rejected takeoff plan on the contaminated runway? I assume you have perf figures for that. With it being an E European aircraft. Interested to know the difference.
If not mistaken, I also saw three different flight decks. Each with their own similar but unique features. So which do you prefer, straight instrument, or the Collins or Garmin ? I do like both the Collin Pro 21 and Garmin's 3k deck. Although I would love to see Bombardier's new Vision flight deck in action.
Awesome fun ,interested to know where you got all the money to have all these aircraft while appearing not to work at all. Not a jealously thing just curious.
Nice video. I am a little confused - why did it take four airplanes to move the jet? So I assume the 172 was being moved to Alpine and the twin was being moved to South Valley as well? Otherwise, why not just hop in the Bonanza and go back to Alpine?
Yes, I drew out a map and used pins and string to serve as route markers... after 3 hours of FedEx style trip analysis, I must concur -- clearly the prudent thing to do is to hop in the Bonanza and go back to Alpine. I can only assume that the flight levels have messed with Matt's head a bit.
As an extra-terrestial, does the maintain (as in 'climb and maintain') used by some in the US actually have any purpose, such as a radio fail? Or is it just superfluous.
SOOOooooo ... I knew that operating the rudder pedals will independently give differential braking and therefore nose steering when the brake handle is applied. I now know that the main brakes can be operated with the rudder amidship along with pressure on the brake handle. Question #1: Can the speed brake switch on the throttle handle be reversed. It is counter-intuitive to me, meaning it "should be" forward = deployed and rearward = retracted. Question #2: Can the unequipped standard L39 be fitted with drop tank pylons ?
Great video Matt the journey continues. Question The avionics on the jet seem different then on the Bonanza. Could you describe the differences. For instance I am not hearing the audible warnings like traffic ahead or when your 500 feet from ground. If you like just add it to or make a video about it I am sure there is a lot you could say about the in cockpit avionics of different aircraft. Thanks again.
Thanks Matt it is a fascinating subject to me. I am sure you do not navigate with a compass and sexton. Even in the jet. Avionics have to play a big role. Maybe you could do a video on them someday.
I've only "flown" the L-39 in DCS World and I may get a chance to fly in one for real when I visit an African country in mid-2024. BTW, were you flying out of Alpine, Wyoming? I'm from Liverpool, UK but I lived in Casper in 1995 and 1998. In 1998, I started taking flying lessons at Casper Air Service but only managed 36 hours before my contract ended. In reality, I had to stop flying in September because the wind speed increased above the allowable 15kts so for the next 3 months, until I left in December, I couldn't get any flying done.
Keeping the cap and altitude on Jet is more annoying than what most would think, it takes good concentration if you don't want to look drunk on flightaware.
L-39 is such a beautiful jet, the best looking one in my opinion, looks simple but looks so capable and robust at the same time

The cool thing is they are not terribly expensive to get irl. Well for jets.

What a great comment. I’m going to watch some more aviation videos.
CFP sent me. Wow. You know the @MentourPilot channel? A collab with you two would be rather great. You're my kind of American. Bravo.

Back around 2003 I got to fly in and manipulate the controls of an L29. It was great fun. Thanks for the video!
Sounds and looks like a blast! Good on ya friend!
Jesus Matt, what a video! I'll never get to fly like that but its the next best thing! Thankyou for sharing it.
Beautiful country out there. Thanks for the ride along. Keep’em coming.

Loved ittt! Called you out on the radio today at south valley we were in 5923W when you were on the downwind!
Awesome video love seeing South Valley U42. U42 was the first airport I flew from in the US, when I visited from Australia back in 2017.

I'll have to check if you have video of the flight in the MU-2. I love those!
Wow, that's pretty cool.
What a day...something to dream about...beautiful flying weather...thx
Thanks for filming and sharing.
I enjoyed it very much. 👍
Greased that landing…. Beautiful flight!
Thank you for the vidéo. I love them.
Enjoying all of your posts, Matt, hopefully, I can see you one day at KOA !!!
Rolled it right on so sweet!
Hi Matt, I live In Jackson Hole, Love Alpine and Salt Lake! Going from the Albatross to the C-172 must be like going from a Ferrari to a Prius!
You're an inspiration Matt! Keep it up and live life to the fullest!
Awesome ,,Thx for share Captain Matt
Awesome. Very impressed with all of this.
Fantastic! Thank's for posting!
SO cool! I first heard of you from the Fun For Louis series with the round the world flight. Since then I've gotten my PPL and started my own channel as well. This video was awesome.
100 gallons less per hour is A LOT in fuel savings. That is cool to know.
Thank you.

How cool! Being from the area of south valley I saw you on your downwind to base. Never knew that was you until now!
Seriously this is cool :D
One of the best LIFT Jet, The Albatross 🤙
Well, stay healthy for all of us & Safety First! Peace across the Globe ✌😉
Thanks for the ride. Thumbs up 👍
A wonderful day in the sky! Great to tag along from the couch at home. How do you stay warm in the L39? Is it heated inside? I loved flying in winter, but it was freezing with not much heat in my plane.
In Soviet Russia they have great heat
@@mattguthmillerin Soviet Russia the heat cools you
Going from the L-39 to a 172 sounds like a big step down. But, still, it's flying!
Thanks for another great jet video.
Nice!! Definitely will draw a crowd at any field.....well except OSH :)
Thanks. MM.
Ah the classic L-39 to 172 transition training.
Matt; where did you get the L-39? I didn’t know you were checked out in that type !
300 to 400kts in one plane to 80kts in the next. Bet that takes some getting used to? That L39 is a real sweet ride. Bet it makes for a great snow blower too LOL.

Truly amazing watching from my desk !!!
Does it have hot seats or do you just wear parachutes? If I remember right, those were notorious for breaking backs.
beautiful
Living the dream
Matt would like to see you fly your other plane.
What's the kneeboard/leg strap you're using for your phone? I've been trying to find a solid one to use when the iPad is too big.
Hi Matt, what type of kneeboard are you using for the I-phone?
You guys are having too much fun.. Why solo in the right seat on the Mu2?
If not mistaken, I also saw three different flight decks. Each with their own similar but unique features. So which do you prefer, straight instrument, or the Collins or Garmin ? You gotta take me for a flight if I’m ever in the USA again.. 😂 🙏🏻
GREAT vid. Are your ejection seats armed?
Hi, I see the parachute ripcord on the harness, does this type of ejection seat open automatically or manually?
So cool! I want an L-39 LOL
how many Gs can you pull in that thing?
and can you go over mach1 in a dive?
Are you planning to fly your L39 at Reno Air Races?
love your clips thanks for posting
Where is "Alpine"? Idaho?
This man is living my dream.
also I think that a valid upgrade would be a bubble style canopy to the cockpit for better visibility
Hey Matt! Any plans to update the panel, or just going to keep it the way it is?
Upgraded the 430 but otherwise keeping it the same
Why didn’t you fly an IFR approach for training? Would have been great opportunity!
SLC approach would have made that cost an extra $500
@@mattguthmiller I don't really get the point of "sacrificing" training for money but that's your decision :)
@@johnnylooping2105 yall worried about 500 bucks im out here trying to figure out how to get the $400,000 plane to start with...

Seems like there would be a lot of utility in having the mic button on the stick vs. the throttle.
That’s where the intercom PTT was
As an extra-terrestial, does the maintain (as in 'climb and maintain') used by some in the US actually have any purpose, such as a radio fail? Or is it just superfluous.
Mach 0.62? You know you're going fast when your speed starts with a zero and a decimal point.
Is that a smartphone EFB in a knee board you have? Where can I purchase something like that?
SOOOooooo ... I knew that operating the rudder pedals will independently give differential braking and therefore nose steering when the brake handle is applied. I now know that the main brakes can be operated with the rudder amidship along with pressure on the brake handle.

Super cool but I would not want to have an engine failure in that thing. I bet it has no ejection seats or they are deactivated.
does it get cold in the cockpit when ur up there??
Need to keep that L39 in Alpine to take care of any balloons scouting the resorts.
I am totally lost as to why you needed 4 airplanes? Was there someone else also moving a plane?
My home base was OGD whrn i started flying towards my ppl license.
Did you install the wing tanks?
Grease it!
Very cool! The L39 makes me a little nervous, but very cool!! 8) --gary
I was worried you were an "alpine resident". That landing didn't sound Utah friendly though!
Nobody in Utah has any fun. Especially not on Sunday.
