I've never taken apart a controller before but I didn't want to buy another one. The left thumbstick was acting haywire and causing the right stick to move when it wasn't supposed to. The buttons weren't responsive as they should be. This totally helped me now it's working perfectly.
Yes, the truth is that the last 2 videos that I uploaded without the music have done quite well so it is most likely that I will continue doing it this way
Well done, great job!!!some questions please....what grease did you use? When you say be careful the alcohol might corrode the contacts ,how do you avoid that as you still use it,what is the trick here?also ,did you also use alcohol with the toothbrush on the whole surface of the circuit as well or was that some other chemical?
No weights th3 siad weights are the rumble motor, you can take them off tho if you want it's the same thing as tearing the cable you won't have vibration
I am at my wits end with controller issues. One of my controllers just turns off by itself, especially if i am playing an action game where i press a lot of buttons and quickly. It starts being unresponsive, then it just goes completely unresponsive then it finally turns off. The console does not eve detect that no controller is connected for several seconds even though all the lights in the controller are off. Happens while connected via USB or wireless, if wireless it just starts charging when turned off and usually it's detected as off earlier. It's driving me nuts. Some times i can play for hours with no issues, some times it keeps turning itself off constantly. I doubt it is the battery since i changed it, so it has to be the ribbons or something in the board no? (it's the later, cheaper model of controller). If i could get a broken controller for cheap with the board and ribbon in working condition i could probably fix it. I have opened the controller so many times the screws are on the verge of being stripped and don't want to deal with that for nothing. I can't find ANY information on these issues.
It is a soldering station, it has a pencil soldering iron and a heat gun, you can buy a pencil soldering iron in homedepot or some store like that, they are very cheap you can find some from 5/10 dollars but I recommend that you buy the best complete station Since they are not very expensive in reality and they are much more durable in addition to that you can regulate the temperature better.
Please help me my L2 button of ps3 controller is pressing but it is not coming back automatically i have opened it and tried to fix it but it is not fixing i have to pull back L2 button
You can use it of course, you just have to be careful with the contacts from the flex to the motherboard, these are the only ones that can be damaged if you use isopropyl alcohol
So for the vibrating motor soldering, did you just melt the already existed and stick the cable wiring in to joint it with the motherboard with no extra solder or flux? Thanks
nice video my friend i had to do the same with one controler i had i took it apart and all cleaned it changed a broken joystick , but i wasnt able to fix a problem with the arrows. Basically when i use the arrows i get some extra click on the upper arrow , like it stuck . do i fix it by cleaning the flexboard or some other way??
Perhaps i wouldve been more delicate than scrubbing the motherboard with a toothbrush but it seems to have proved effective anyway Ill still be sticking to my qtips though
I'm a layman, but I have a question. Is it really proper to drip Isopropyl all over the circuit boards? Is Isopropyl completely harmless to the electronic components? Also is that 90% or 70%? Honest questions
I have the same problem my L2 doesn't work as well. I think it's because I rubbed off the contact points too much on the flex cable with isopropyl alcohol. You might have to replace the flex cable.
in the part where the flex and the motherboard make contact there is a small pad that presses one thing against the other. Sometimes it wears out over time, you can try to make that pad press by making it thicker either with tape or foam.
@@VRestoration did just that. it seems like the ribbon is just fucked beyond repair. opened the controller, found some water damage on the ribbon. must have shorted the connection permanently because it registers button press on L1, L2 and the directional buttons without anything pressing the buttons.
@@VRestoration opened another ds3, same water damage at the same spot: near and under the select button. the ribbon shows green rust that wont go away with cleaning. i think it has something to do with the rubber button degrading with time that causes this damage.
Thank you very much for the good comment friend, about the duration of the videos if I have thought of making them longer but as many times the processes can be somewhat repetitive I think it could get people bored.
Hey, what should I do when my controller wont close properly? It seems that everything fits properly but when I close it, it wont come together betwean L1 L2 and R1 R2.
Fantastic job🔥 I have a question: my controller has a stripped screw and it won't come out. Do you have an idea of how to get it out? If not, can I risk and force the case to open up with 5/6 screws removed?
Well, with larger screws they can be removed with a drill, but the problem is that it is too small to do that. If you really need to open the knob, I advise you to try to remove the entire head of the screw with a file or something like that so that it comes out without damaging the housing, but the truth is that it is very difficult to do.
I know this was ages ago, but just in case you are perpetually holding onto your broken electronics ( like me :P) they actually make drill bits specifically for this issue. GraBit is one brand name, but they have cheap sets on amazon that wont set you back more than $10. Ive used them for small screws on my laptop.
Help me with your likes and subscribing to the channel to be able to bring many more videos of restoration of retro video games.
4:08 great editing, that looked cool
Thanks❤

It would be nice if we knew what grease was used for the analog sticks. Otherwise, it's a pretty good tutorial.
Same here opened mine and nothing will do anything to fix it.
Awesome video man! You are one of the best motivators for me to fix those. I'm subscribing!
Those front buttons are a puzzle to re-assemble. Thanks for showing how to do that part.
I still have my OG PS3 controller that is 8 or 9 years old by now, it still works but the analogues are really mushy so I will try to replace

you can use soap and water on a circuit board... aslong as theres no electrical charge. but he sprayed isopro alcohol.
Isopropyl alcohol is the way to go, that alcohol evaporates very easily that is why i chosen to clean circuits

well done
4:29 rubber part!
Are the contact points on the flex cable repairable? I think I rubbed the contact points too much and now my L2 doesn't work. Great video!
Great vid. What percentage alcohol did you use? Is there a safe minimum?
@oxykitteen Thanks!
What the oil on 3:51?
Amazing!
Can you use Wd40 to grease the joysticks ?
I think so yeah it helps at least
Wd 40 is not a lubricant
Very cool project 👍👍👍🤘 Great job
Another dog lost its nose 😭
What did you use to lubricate the sticks???
hi, what grease did you use? Thank you
Black silicon grease.
i can’t even take mine apart because the screwed are stripped
That controller was awful. Insane restoration.
What did you put on the analog sticks? Some sort of wax?
He put some grease on them believe it or not.
He put grease and that's a terrible idea don't do that
What do you call this on 3:52?
My dualshock 3 has 1 problem
L3 gets stuck in one place its not going back to the middle for no reason 🤨
Dude what tool i striped 2 of the screws
Amazing soldering skills! (joke)

yes, it works perfectly

could you swap the buttons and thumbsticks from the original gray DualShock 1 and put them into a white DualShock 3 and make it look throwback?

I think generally it’s advised to use 70-99% iso whenever working with small electronics such as this. Preferably 99% as it dries up a lot faster.
Did you simply push on the wire to remove said wire?
My circuit board looks slightly different
I did all this and only the L2 controller didn’t work, like it can’t sense it at all

What kind of grease you use for joysticks and fat ps2 doors..
You can use any type of gear grease. I personally use Roshfrans brand automotive lubricant.
