If you want a really deep Christmas red, I wouldn't recommend using the Wilton no taste red. This past Christmas I struggled for half an hour trying to get a deep red royal icing. I did indeed use cocoa powder, as I know from colour theory that brown mixed with red is the only way to get the colour I wanted. I have been doing this for years without issue, but this year it just wouldn't work. I even added brown food colouring out of desperation, I just could not get the deep colour I was looking for. Finally I looked at the bottle thinking maybe I somehow grabbed the wrong colour? It was red, but I noticed it was no taste. I have always used the regular red in the past. So I go grab the normal red, and in less than a minute I had the red I was looking for! Moral of the story, they clearly use different dyes for the no taste red than the normal one (makes sense). The no taste just doesn't seem to be able to come out as deep as their normal red does.
can these icing colors be used as normal food colors too or just for icing? please if somebody knows tell me, i bought them and i don’t know if i can use them :/
You'll want to add in additional liquid and some cocoa powder to get a chocolate flavor before adding in coloring. You can find our go-to recipe here: blog.wilton.com/easy-chocolate-buttercream-frosting/
Hi, We recommend spraying the pan with Bake Easy Spray before putting your batter. Here's a link: www.wilton.com/bake-easy-cake-pan-spray-6-ounce/702-6018.html
Hi Tiger, for Candy Melts you need to color with oil-based products (alcohol-based products like traditional icing will NOT work). You can find our oil-based primary colors here: www.wilton.com/primary-4-color-candy-set/191001183.html
Yea right! Wilton icing colors suck! I used the black and red icing for my son’s birthday cake not only did it take so much of color just to get to my desired shade but it even made my frosting grainy.. I could literally see the little specs of color still in the icing it didn’t even mix well no matter how much I worked on it.. they’re barely concentrated and a waste of money.
