Do you struggle with making bright red buttercream frosting? You’re not alone! Learning how to make red frosting that’s actually red and not pinkish red can be a challenge, but we’re up for the task! We’ve gathered up all our red food coloring and a whole lotta buttercream to determine just how much icing color is needed to achieve your desired shade. Find the written instructions here: bit.ly/2pUHrEz
For everyone looking at this video, I have seen a trick about putting your icing in the microwave till it’s slightly melted and it will make the red more vibrant and you wait till it’s room temperature again and whip it back up. Going to try it next time.
Try adding a normal amount of dye, then microwave in short 10 seconds bursts until you like the color. Then chill it and rewhip. Voila, vibrant red or any other color. Works great for blue too
@@kashafrajput1139 when it melts, first you should only be using part of the buttercream to heavily dye, and after you microwave it, you add to the rest and mix but not whip. So, make the buttercream, remove some and dye it and microwave it, then when it's really deep after the bursts and mixing, you MIX into the rest of the buttercream. Don't whip it as it's already whipped. Whipping it again puts in more air and lightens it
@@kashafrajput1139 also, all this does is speed the oxidation. So if you refrigerate the buttercream it will naturally darken too. But this allows you to use less colors like red which can add taste when you use too much, and make them vivid without adding a ton. Make sure you're using quality concentrated gel coloring. I use americolor here in the USA but any quality gel coloring will do. Liquid ones suck.
@@kashafrajput1139 I can't stress the importance of gel concentrate coloring. And you don't need alot. Start with a little and add some as you go. You use alot less than liquid The part you microwave will get dark fast. Don't go too far.
Add enough to make it normal and it'll be lighter. Then microwave the buttercream in short bursts like 10 seconds each until you like the color. Then fully cool and chill it and rewhip it. Nice vivid colors.
80-100 drops of colors will have everyone's mouth and lips stained red. And also, they'll be seeing the effects of it the next day in the toilet, not to be too vulgar! I wish there was a way to avoid this.
Brock Allen Fischer Not to mention, the frosting is going to taste terrible after such a heavy addition of coloring. Maybe the no taste red isn’t so bad, but the “Christmas Red” made my frosting extremely bitter and disgusting.
Thank you! I'm in Canada and I was so disappointed when I went to Michaels last week for the squeeze bottles only to find none and learn they've been discontinued. Booooooooo. Please bring them back. There has to be options like these that are quality. I can't stand the dollar store crap. I'm willing to pay for the quality. ❤
I used the Christmas Red on a batch of delicious vanilla bean buttercream for some holiday cupcakes, and the results were disastrous. First of all, I had to use the entire jar just to get the frosting to even resemble red (and it was still nowhere near the shade I had hoped for), anything less than that was pink or salmon. Of course, after adding the entire jar, my frosting was bitter, disgusting, and inedible. I was just so filled with joy and Christmas spirit as I scooped my entire bowl of freshly made frosting into the garbage and restarted from scratch. Have you ever plopped $20 worth of vanilla bean straight into the trash? It’s really quite a nice release - thanks Wilson! I decided to go with white and some really nice festive sprinkles. Still looking for a solution to the red buttercream conundrum. 😐
I have the Wilton color right system and the red and pink had a horrible bitter flavor!! Why?? What can I do?? I can’t give back the box because i bought a long time ago and hadn’t used red until a couple months ago... what can I do?? Do you sell these separetly??

picantesworld77 If you’re making black frosting. Start with chocolate frosting especially using Dutch processed or black cocoa it gives a dark brown color. Than you only need a small amount of black color to achieve a true black. When making red add a little pink first.
There are actually a lot of types of buttercreams out there. I've experimented with recipes for American, Swiss meringue, Italian meringue, and Russian so far!
Presenter talked too fast to keep up & annoying music too loud to understand her. With so many options on how to achieve different colors, it would be nice if we could print a reference sheet from this video.

why not use a pink flavor so you dont have to use as much red. Like raspberry frosting

Are the readymade icings buttercream or royal?

Just used an entire jar of Christmas red icing color and got coral at best. No answers here.

I’m allergic to vegetable shortening as it’s made with soybean oil. What can I use as an alternative to create white icing ?
Find a high ratio shortening. Makes a creamier icing. I found one at bulk barn and it is dairy and soy free!

Not all of us live in the us and able to buy WILTON COLORS
❤
I bought the tub of frosting and it smelled and tasted like play-doh, did I get a bad one or is that normal?
Probably normal. Between the dye, shortening, and preservatives...
Dani Jensen All shorting frosting is gross.
Normal. Red is obviously hard to make vibrant and taste good that's only the entire reason of the video your watching here.
The color I bought was blue, but I get what you're saying
use the pastes not the drops - tried to get the dark red consistency as she said but it just tastes like chemicals
I use whipped icing it's bettercreme not buttercreme I have a hard time getting red red color
Red can be tricky. We recommend using a full bottle of icing color for 2 cups of icing to get a bright red.
Fourth.....❤️❤️❤️
So basically if you want red icing...make sure to use red food colouring...not blue...🤔🙄
You clearly don't make red icing do you. Red is hard, next to impossible for most brands for the reasons said here.
It didnt work with whipping cream…:( it was just punk with the gel one
Whipped Icings have a tendency of not holding onto colors as well or getting as dark or vibrant. Using an oil-based color may help!
Did she say a 100 drops? 😐
Lol have the same question 😂😂...
the wilton decorator icing tastes horrible
