I’ve used the black gel trick in the past to shade colours of buttercream, but you read my mind with this video post. I’m currently working on the “Give Away” Cookies for my son and DIL’s Wedding. The second design is a large plaque with a Wedding Cake on a gold stand. I want the background Colour to be a muted, eucalyptus green because that is her primary décor colour. I’ve probably got 6 different shades of green gel, but this colour definitely requires custom mixing. Thanks for this great info. Very helpful and timely. Cheers.

In color theory for artists this is exactly how paint is mixed by starting with a base line color and adding another color to create a new color and then introduce another color to the previous new color and so on, repeating the process all mixed from the initial base line color you initially started with. Doing this allows for cohesiveness of all your colors on your pallette. This is why you see paintings that have colors that usually wouldn't look good come together harmoniously. This process is important to know because you can't achieve this effect by trying to buy these shades of colors individually due to different undertones that manufacturers incorporate when mixing colors.
Regardless if you're a cookie artist, a cake artist or a painter, color theory is so important to know and is relative in all forms of artistry.
However, I know nothing about cookie artistry and am here to learn how to make all these beautiful iced sugar cookies that I'm constantly seeing on Instagram and at bakeries. Hopefully with the help and knowledge from Little Cookie Co and lots of practice I can one day too, make the stunningly beautiful cookies I see on this channel.
Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and hard work. It is very appreciated. Lots of love to you and your's ❤😊.

You should talk to a gallery or museum like the Met. You could put together art pieces like 1:28 & 13:28 as well as design diff cookies with diff themes (French impressionist watercolor, Rococo, modern art, etc) & mount each cookie on a canvas. You could call the exhibit “Eating With Your Eyes” or something.
    I’m 100% serious-you’re an artist not just a baker!

    • @LittleCookieCo
      @LittleCookieCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you, so happy you liked it! I don't think the gel colours have an expiry date (but I may be wrong). I think they have like a best before date, maybe around 2 years or so, but I think that's more just a date. I even searched it and read a few places that said they don't really expire as long as they're kept closed and in a dark room temperature place. But I'm not 100% sure on that.

    • @lrb1651

this is awesome, thank you! Can I ask a question about keeping your colours? I was told to place my finished cookies in the oven at 150F for 20-30 min to completely dry out the icing. But they came out faded, with almost a cloudy whitish film. Any idea how I can avoid this in the future….I almost cried after all the hours spent detailing and the to have beautiful soft pastel icing colours turn so totally unappealing 😢. Thanks for any help you can share with me.

I particularly like the green-ivory combination, and the violet-black one. The peach-black one turning towards a muted purple was unexpected, and quite interesting! Great ideas for expanding your colors with a smaller set of base tints. :)

Thank you! It was quite fun to see the comparisons and see how much the colours actually changed!

I love this video, I have to make some wedding ring sugar cookies, the bide to be has a gold ring with emerald stone. Can you tell me what you would use to make the ring part gold? I am doing research on this and I am not finding anyone to love any of the products. I am also just a hobby baker.

Thank you! You can try searching TMP gold or Sugar Art Gold as well, both great options. You can mix it with everclear alcohol as it's a powder and it works really well!

These colors are amazing! Who knew? Can you tell me how I would make Blush pink? I'm making cupcakes for a blush, nude and white wedding. Thank you!

Thank you!! For a blush pink colour I think I would try to mix some pink with a touch of red, just to give it more of a blush colour and not so pink or not so red! And if it's too bright aff a touch of ivory!

Wow I never thought you could get this range of colors with the ivory and black. Great info. Do you have any tips for getting a true red and true black? Seems like I have to use way to much coloring and it still has a pinkish and grayish color. Thanks for any info. PS I’ve always used Wilton food coloring paste.

Oh wow! These colors are beautiful. I need help with yellow. I have Wilton lemon color, what col should I add to make it egg yolk color?

I always have lemon yellow and egg yellow on hand because I find one is too bright and one is too dull hehe. So for me mixing the 2 work great. However if you only have lemon yellow, try adding a touch of orange to it if you have some. Add a tiny bit at a time until you see the shade you like. Just to deepen the yellow a bit, if it's too bright for you a very tiny touch of ivory can help to tone it down as well.
