I am an IV drug user and when I was stupid and used just water to wash the injection site, instead of rubbing alcohol, I got an abscess. Fortunately, I treated myself with Neosporin, and my abscess went away- even though it went through a very gross, painful stage where it was leaking and spurting pus. I tell you truly, I NEVER get abscesses when I first clean the injection site with rubbing alcohol. Thank you for this information!
