The idea was to explore a super important but also extremely misunderstood and complicated topic and “translate” it into a language everybody could understand. I’ve done my best to basically write a super long Kurzgesagt video but with less of the limitations of a ten minute video. IMMUNE is a fascinating and fun journey through your own body, together we’ll be exploring mystery organs, murder universities, your enemies from viruses, bacteria and cancer (and how your immune system might have killed a cancer cell while you were reading the last few sentences) and the incredibly beautiful and amazing parts, cells and systems that keep you alive. After reading it you should not only gain a new appreciation for your own body but also experience disease differently. A flu or something more serious will not be this abstract thing but something you can sort of witness and imagine which mechanisms are active and which cells are doing what. At least personally, knowing how the immune system works always has given me great comfort when I felt unwell. Also 45 illustrated pages by the Kurzgesagt team make the book very pretty. @The Yangem Happens In majority of attacks of pathogen to the body. Macrophages prefer to reside in tissues while neutrophils reside in blood vessels. Neutrophils made upto more than 50% of all immune cells thats why neutrophils are more likely to face the pathogens first especially if pathogen has entered a blood vessel. If the pathogen is unlucky and has entered body through tissue then Macrophages become the first responders

The human brain thinks it' the most complex biological system because it has been able to bring humanity to the top of the food chain while the immune system is needed only for when the body is under attack by foreign cells and otherwise doesn't have to do anything, but in fact it's only the third most complex. Ironically, the immune system thinks it's the most complex biological system for the exact same reason, it too is not the first, but only the second.

I smiled the entire time at how adorable the narrative was on this video. I can say that in the time I spent watching their videos since 2016, Kurzgesagt is a channel that's really capable of making you learn something and have fun at the same time. Their videos are stimulating and never boring. And they also make the effort to write a narrative that is purely based on scientific research & facts and they know exactly when to call their information incomplete when there is lack of information. Overall, their honesty, creativity, and desire for quality made them into the successful channel that they are today thanks to the dedicated people who worked hard in publishing these videos and creating their merchandise. Kudos to Kurzgesagt! Excelsior!
Right? I never thought I would be interested in ant warfare or quantum physics but here we are. Their work opened up a whole other set of career choices for me, and for that I am truly grateful to the whole Kurzgesagt team.
As an artist, their animated arts always have me motivated. Also, this video has just showed me a new perspective and why I should take care of myself more than I am doing at the moment.
Facts, Iv been watching this channel for years and loved every single vid I've seen, still can never remember how you say the name tho. :/ has made it hard to recomend it to people, tho it can be funny when others know of it already and tend to say, "Yeah Kuzg.... the duck science channel!"
Well those neutrophils do sound _a lot_ like the Death Corps of Krieg, the Macrophages akin to the Astartes and the dendritic cells reek of The Inquisition. Looks like you're onto something here.🤔
This channel really helps me out! It teaches me things in a way so that I remember it for quite a while. One of the best things that I love about this is that it's really fun and not boring.
Ok, I haven't watched the video yet, I haven't been on this particular page. But, somehow, I have already liked this comment. I'm feeling mildly spooked here.
The video says the first step in the body's defense is recruitment of macrophages, and this is how it's often taught, but there's another important first step: blood clotting. The clotting cascade responds quickly to the cut to stop bleeding and also to stop invaders from infiltrating. Clotting physically stops pathogens while also signaling to the immune cells what to do. This biological pathway is ancient and essential, and our immune system evolved to work in the context of blood coagulation. This is something I didn't learn in school but is being more widely appreciated by immunologists. I learned it from the Immune podcast. Check it out, now that Kurzgesagt laid out the overview so well :)
Yeah I figured when watching the video. Your blood clots to prevent any more pathogens from entering which eventually forms into a scab. The scab basically becomes your skin and slowly shrinks over time as your skin repairs itself. Had the blood not clotted you could die because the pathogens will continually enter your body.
Its interesting, I learnt in an immunological course that neutrophils are first and macrophages recruited after 24hours attracted by chemoattractants? Especially becuase neutrophils have TOLL like receptors for PAMPs recognizing most bacteria before macropahges. Wondering what your teaching said different? Not saying its wrong but its good to know how different countries teach the subject.
Fantastic! This is an extraordinary presentation. The clean animation is complemented by a great storyline. Thank you for being the best at explaining such complex topics in their simplest form.

They forgot air force there. Should have fast pilots there, that could eat fast bacteria with their really fast speed.

Imagine the question or statement that snowballed this entire video. I like to think one of the crew of Kurtzgesagt gets cut one day due to a stupid reason (eg stabbed with a pizza) and the rest of them think "Hold up..."

When i was a kid I used to fall on a rock from my knees thank you for showing me the power of the immune system
Have you realised that every time, the monkey is holding a different thing, a cool easter egg if you ask me :) Keep up the good work kurzsegagt!
I never did
I spotted a cellphone, a radio, a small notebook and other small things
Mmmm hotdog
Yeah… the asteroid mining video, it was holding a diamond pickaxe.
And.. a toilet paper oof
"It's been a normal day.. when suddenly the world explodes,"
- Kurzgesagt 2021
That is definitely going in a Kurzgesagt out of context video
"In contrast to games, we can guarantee it's actually finished and there will be no day 1 patch"
This line is gold and might've just convinced me to preorder ahahha
Lol just came here to say this
They def. know about the bad touch the word "preorder" has gained over time, and this sentence was a very effective strategy to battle that!
i have a question soo in the vid they told abt the helper t cells then where does the killer ts come im really confused
Is this a Cyberpunk reference?
Epic
I really like the way they illustrated the cells that make it easier for people to visualize and feel familiar
Fun Fact: The macrophage invigorated by the helper T-cell is literally called an "Angry Macrophage"
lol
As usual, scientists are bad at naming things.
@@Miranox2 keep it simple, simple is best
T-cell asking a Macrophage to see their "war face"
I felt the name angry macrophage was so absurd that I went and fact checked it, I'm not dissappointed.

My favorite thing about Kurzgesagt is how they are able to make complex and nuanced topics into something so simple and entertaining. Please never stop making quality content
Haha yeah. I wish there was one video for every university exam I've had to endure.

@@antoniogattulli9749 well the formula is easy : remove the memorizing parts, the codenames etc like cd4.. i like immunology, i just don't like when it gets into details that need memorizing but its essential so.. rip

this is a GODSEND!!! my oral exams are today and omfg i feel so lucky i found this!!
I'm working on my masters degree from biotechnology and have to say: In my ~10 years of studying biology related topics on varying levels of complexity I've never heard anyone explain immune system basics as interestingly and simply as you did, fantastic job!
Please check out "Cells at work"
I love how they "humanify" the cells making them super easy to understand and maybe even sympathies with
And also creates an epic image of ruthless barbarian killing everything in sight including itself
Humanize*
@@AZNboi10921 no bitches?
Not that hard, considering every single cell in the video is 100% human
And sometimes those cells like to stick around and become cancer.
this...came 9 years late.^^
Now I finally understand what my biology teacher wanted me to write down.
YOOO CLEMENS
Better late than never, u can give her the work now and call it late submission
To be fair, your biology teacher wasn't Kurzgesagt.
Well they made same video 7 years ago. Your teacher could be only 2 years late
