I would say to wait until Windows Update gets patched to give the POSReady 7 updates, like how Windows Vista got patched to give Server 2008 updates via WU.
@@EverythingeeB Windows Vista has a much smaller install base compared to Windows 7, it should take less time for the patch to be made than Vista, if people are willing to work on it. Should be simple, do what Vista did and update it for the newer version of WU.

I needed W7 for some old software and even though I have a real key from original purchase (yeah, I'm old), I couldn't get any updates to work and it didn't even have drivers for wifi or ethernet out of the box for this old Lenovo T450s. Your guide worked perfectly. Thankfully you put those stock ISO updates in google drive because they wouldn't work just trying to download from MS.
This worked! I did it a bit differently, so I can make my own ISO. I only chose the updates that are strictly necessary to get a fully patched core OS.
I don't care much about W7 as my primary OS is XP. did you patch a clean W7 setup with no updates ? if I have to reinstall everything I will just give up. LOL

Oblivious answer is go Linux but it didn't work out for me. First, some devices in my system don't play well (looking at you, Realtek, especially WiFi/BT adapter). Second is anti-cheat support (Faceit👀). So basically people in my situation has no easy way to go. It's either hack win 11 or backport patches for 10 or something like that. P.s. have 4th gen core Intel Xeon 2666v3 10C/20T beast that roughly equal to i5 8400.
i'd already started before i saw your update that it doesn't work any more, but i followed through anyway, and it is working on a clean (as of 12 hours ago) install of 7SP1x64. i did install .NET4 runtime, IE11, and 5 updates that go along w/ that earlier, and your first 5 updates wouldn't install in that order (1st, 5th, 2nd, 3rd, 4th worked) and it's now pulling the first load of 2 gigs of stuff off of windows update. i didn't try the minitool. maybe they just broke that?
guys i was intalling win 7 and when setup automatically restarted while starting it freezed and this keepes doing it so i had to back win 10 help if someone know how to fix it ? !!

Because constantly updating Windows 7 to try to backport and cram new features and technologies into something old is harder than just building a new OS from the ground up that supports all the new stuff. And once you've started on a new OS, that's what you want to push people toward, because having to support multiple legacy systems forever is a cost and manpower nightmare.

You need to go into command prompt and mark both your drives as not dirty. If you Google dirty drive command prompt you'll find a good description of how to do that. I was having that problem problem.

That doesn't change the fact that much modern software (like Chromium) won't get updates. Just use anything up to date. Either Windows 10/11 or any modern Linux distro...
Good video, but I don't recommend going back to Windows 7 unless you wish to be permanently locked to using Windows 7 software. Eventually developers of games and software are going to have to move on, even if they support it right now. BUT I do recommend this if you have legacy software that you currently use on a VM or separate computer.
I have 7 on my retro PC right now and generally for the most part most software works just fine. Supermium is working as a great browser and I've only run into a couple of other programs that don't support Windows 7 anymore. This'll probably change over the next couple of years though :(
Developers usually stop supporting a certain OS when there user base is too small to justify the effort. If we hold our ground and keep 7 relevant, there's pretty much no reason for them to not support the system.

trying to dualboot windows 7 is a nightmare on my older laptop… it always crashes on startup 😩
